Thor star Chris Hemsworth narrates Candlelight Ceremony and Processional
The Candlelight Processional took place this past weekend at Disneyland. Started by Walt Disney in 1958 as a community appreciation event, the show features a Candlelight choir that consists of cast members and community choir members who perform music provided by the Disneyland orchestra, with guest narrators invited to read the Christmas story in between songs.

Disneyland took an unusual step this year by keeping the identity of the narrator for this year's show a secret right up until the moment Thor star Chris Hemsworth stepped onto Main Street, U.S.A. for a pre-show sound check Saturday afternoon.

The Australian-born actor took to the stage just after sunset for the first of two performances Saturday night, and returned for another pair of performances on Sunday. Hemsworth plays Thor in the Marvel Studios movies, including the recently released Thor: Ragnarok.
Disney's decision to keep the identity of the narrator under wraps until the last moment may have been intended to reduce crowding during Candlelight.

After trying a few times to make the annual event a larger public offering, with dining packages and reserved viewing, Disney in recent years returned to the practice of treating Candlelight as a private event that just happens to take place in the middle of an operating theme park. The reserved seating area in Town Square is very small, and invited guests include community and civic leaders, as well as media and Club 33 members.
Standby viewing is very limited, and on a first-come, first-served basis, and die-hard Candlelight fans arrive at park opening to claim their bench or patch of curb to wait for the evening performance. Disney may have feared that announcing a very popular narrator too far in advance would draw crowds too large for Town Square.
Even so, the promise of seeing Chris Hemsworth was enough to pack Disneyland Sunday night, and Disney announced around 4:30 p.m. that all of the Resort parking lots had reached capacity. The parking lots eventually reopened, but cast members remarked that it was an unusually busy Candlelight Sunday.

Highlights of “Believe… in Holiday Magic” Fireworks
Disney streamed the entire “Believe… in Holiday Magic” fireworks spectacular live from Disneyland park on November 30, one of a series of #DisneyParksLIVE events broadcast on social media channels and YouTube.
The full live stream video was removed after the broadcast, but Disneyland posted a two-minute highlight video you can watch whenever you need a little Christmas in your living room.

Disney announced its second Share your Ears promotion, and again promises to donate $5 (up to $1 million) for each photo shared to social media sites Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram using the hashtag #ShareYourEars.
Both the Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort have special photo backdrops where visitors can take photos for the promotion, but any public share on one of the three social media sites will qualify. Learn more about the promotion at ShareYourEars.org.
A Very Merry Holiday Tea Party
The Very Merry Holiday Tea Party at the Disneyland Hotel's Steakhouse 55 is back for a second year, with a menu mostly unchanged from the original. Here's the information from the Disneyland website, which is also where you can make reservations for the tea:
Celebrate the season at a traditional tea service that’s brimming with holiday cheer—from December 1 to 31!
Steakhouse 55 is hosting a jolly version of a traditional afternoon repast of sweets and savories, and of course, pots of tea. The seasonal menu offers a selection of teas accompanied by scones, tea sandwiches and petite sweets. Wines, ports, sherry and cordials are also available for an additional charge. Tea is served Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m.

Moonlight Magic event for DVC members
Disney Vacation Club members who like to plan way, way ahead should mark their calendars for Thursday, November 15th 2018. That's when DVC will hold another Moonlight Magic event at Disney California Adventure. The free after-hours event lets members stay in the theme park after it closes to day guests, and enjoy character meet-and-greets, complimentary snacks and shorter wait times for select rides. Reservations are required, and will begin on October 4, 2018.

…Freshly made, hand-pulled candy canes are available this week at Disneyland's Candy Palace on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and at Trolley Treats in Disney California Adventure on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. …Tickets for the first Disneyland After Dark event, scheduled for Thursday, January 18, are now on sale to Disneyland Resort annual passholders. Remaining tickets will be available to the general public starting this Thursday, December 7. Tickets to this after-hours event are $95 per person, ages 3 and up, and do not include parking. No discounts apply. Purchase through the event website, or in person at Disneyland ticket booths.
…Disneyland once again topped Instagram's list of the most-photographed place on Earth for 2017. In 2016, the rankings aggregated all Disney parks as one location, but each park was individually ranked in 2017. Disneyland (#1) and Disney California Adventure (#9) made the top 10, as did Walt Disney World (#6) and Tokyo Disneyland (#5).
Disneyland also topped the list in 2014 and 2015, and was #3 in 2013, the first year rankings were released.
…Star Wars: Path of the Jedi is closed through December 7 for refurbishment. The show features clips from the Star Wars saga, and will likely be updated with scenes from Star Wars: The Last Jedi in advance of its December 15 premiere.

- Dapper Day Spring Outing to Disneyland (unofficial event) – Sunday, April 22. More information at the event website. This popular event grows larger each year, so it's worth making note of the date if you plan to visit the park during this weekend.
- 2018 Grad Nites: May 4, 5, 11, 12, 15, 16, 18, 19, 22, 23, 29 and 30; June 1, 2, 5, 6, 8 and 9.
- Moonlight Magic after-hours event for Disney Vacation Club members – Thursday, November 15. Reservations open October 4, 2018.
We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don't get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency.

2017 Military Salute Offer Disney released details of its 2017 Military Salute offer for Disneyland and Walt Disney World last October, and the tickets are valid January 1 through April 8 and April 24 through December 19, 2017. At the time we first shared details of the offer, we did not know about (or Disney had not announced) a special PhotoPass promotion also available to military personnel. Through December 19, 2017, active and retired U.S. military personnel who are eligible for the Military Salute offer can also purchase the Disney PhotoPass Collection for $49, a discount of 50% over the usual $99 price. The Disney PhotoPass Collection includes digital downloads of all available PhotoPass photos linked to your account, a voucher for a dining print package and a Disneyland Resort Gallery Disc with 350 high-resolution professional photos from around Disneyland Resort. Southern California CityPASS ($346/$314) – includes a 3-Day Disneyland Resort Park Hopper Bonus Ticket (including one early-entry day), a one-day admission to Sea World San Diego, and a one-day admission to LEGOLAND California. The CityPASS expires 14 days after first use at any location, and the first use must occur by December 31, 2017. Purchase CityPASS through the Disneyland website or on-site at the ticket booths of Disneyland Resort or the other theme parks included in the pass. You can also purchase directly from the CityPASS website, though a shipping charge may apply depending on how quickly you need the ticket. When you purchase the CityPASS, you have the option of adding a one-day admission to either San Diego Zoo or San Diego Safari Park for an extra $42/$34. Purchase with Purchase offers – Disneyland Resort shops frequently offer a reduced–price souvenir (often a tote bag, watch, or blanket) with a qualifying minimum purchase. These are offered at Disney-operated stores only, and selection may vary by location. Recently, Disney has begun allowing customers to purchase more than one of the offers in a qualifying transaction, so if you spend $40 or more you can buy both items currently available if you wish. If you're a passholder, the minimum purchase is calculated after your discount, and your discount does not apply to the promotional item. Current offers:
Landry's Select Club – members of the Landry's Select Club get priority seating at the Rainforest Cafe when available (which makes a huge difference on busy days). This club replaces the former Rainforest Cafe Safari Club, and runs on a point-based system that gives you a $25 gift certificate after you spend $250. Membership now costs $25, but comes with a $25 birthday reward. We recommend that you pre-purchase your membership before your visit so you can take advantage of the priority seating benefit. ESPNZone MVP Club – membership in the MVP Club does not offer any discounts on food. However, once a member you can make an online reservation for your party up to three days in advance and will get a 25 percent increase in points purchased when playing games in the Sports Arena (and 40 bonus points at activation). You must register online and your membership card will then be mailed to you within two weeks. The card must then be activated at any ESPNZone by the person who signed up for the card and ID will be required (link). The 3-Day So Cal Resident 1-Park Per Day ticket offers residents of Southern California and Northern Baja California admission to either Disneyland or Disney California Adventure on one day, and then a second visit to either park on another day on or before May 25, 2017. You can use both days of this ticket at the same theme park, or visit one park one day and the other park on the second day, but you cannot use it to enter both parks on the same day. The ticket is $149 for ages 3 and up. You can also upgrade this ticket to a 3-Day Park Hopper, which allows entry to both parks each day, for an additional $40, a savings of up to $106 compared to the box office price of a three-day park-hopper ticket. If purchased in advance of arrival, the three-day tickets include one Magic Morning admission. This benefit does not come with tickets purchased at the theme park ticket booths, so make sure to order online and print at home before you arrive. If purchasing at a participating third party ticket outlet, double-check that their 3-day tickets come with this feature. There is no “fuse” on this ticket, which means you can use the first admission today and wait until May to use the second (or third) admission. You must, however, purchase the ticket by May 22, 2017.
