Disneyland Resort Update for February 14 – 20, 2022
News and Views
Three Super Bowl stars heading to Disneyland
It's a tradition that dates back to 1987, when New York Giants quarterback Phil Simms taped the first famous commercial following his team's Super Bowl victory. Players from the winning team declare they are “going to Disneyland” or “going to Walt Disney World,” and in fact usually turn up at one of the resorts for a victory parade down Main Street, U.S.A. in the day or two following the big game.
Disney just announced which players answered the iconic Super Bowl question: “What are you going to do next?” #Disneyland #SBLVI #HappiestPlaceOnEarth

This year, three stars from the Los Angeles Rams are heading to Disneyland for their victory tour. LA Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, defensive tackle Aaron Donald and Super Bowl MVP Cooper Kupp together uttered the famous line following their team's win Sunday evening. The trio and their families will head to Disneyland on Monday for a day of Disney magic, including a celebration cavalcade down Main Street, U.S.A.
Disneyland visitors can catch the cavalcade in person at 1:30 p.m. Everyone else can watch the appearance live on @DisneyParks TikTok and @DisneyParks Instagram at the same time.
Trams set to return February 23
Disneyland announced last week that tram service from the Mickey and Friends and Pixar Pals parking structures will resume on February 23, nearly 10 months after the Disneyland Resort reopened from the pandemic closure in April 2021. The service returns just ahead of the Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival, which begins March 4, and ahead of the busy spring break period.
The long-awaited announcement was met with cheers from Disney fans, especially those who dread the 2/3-mile walk between the parking structures and the theme parks at the start and end of a long Disney day. Walt Disney World only recently resumed tram service in December 2021, despite having reopened its theme parks months ahead of the California Resort.
Disney has given no official explanation for why the trams were out of service for so long, or for why the Resort increased parking fees while this important guest service was unavailable. The company has confirmed that passengers will not be required to wear face coverings while on the tram.
Food and Wine Preview
The 2022 Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival is just two weeks away, and Disney has released a few new details about the popular event.

We have the names of the dozen Festival Marketplace booths for the year, though menu specifics have yet to be released.

- Berry Patch – Hail the big berry for top billing!

There are also another dozen locations that will offer tasting-size portions or specialty items you can purchase using the Sip & Savor Pass, which returns again in 2022. Disney has not yet released pricing for this pass, but has confirmed there will be a discount available to Magic Key and Disney Visa Card holders. Once we have the menus and pricing details, we'll crunch the numbers and tell you if we feel the Sip & Savor pass is a good value for this event.
Culinary Demonstrations
The festival will feature a series of culinary demonstrations on Saturdays and Sundays, with a mix of Disney chefs, visiting chefs, and industry experts. Popular returning chefs include Wing Lam, Jamie Gwen, and Bret Thompson.
These will take place at the Hollywood Backlot Stage, and you can find the full schedule of dates and chefs on the Disneyland website. Not listed are details about when each demonstration will take place each day, only a note that details will be posted at the venue. You can't book these demonstrations in advance, and Disney notes that no samples will be offered.
Jr. Chef
The popular Jr. Chef program is getting a makeover this year, thanks to the new Disney Junior animated series “Alice’s Wonderland Bakery.” Children ages 3 to 11 can join Alice and Princess Rosa for Alice’s Wonderland Bakery Unbirthday Party, a free hands-on cupcake decorating experience. Minnie Mouse makes a special appearance during the show.
Space is always limited for the Jr. Chef offering, and we expect this new iteration to be just as popular. Families can register 45 minutes before each performance; check the daily schedule for times.
Carthay Circle Winemaker Receptions
Disney is hosting three Carthay Circle Winemaker Receptions during the festival, each on a Friday night. The dinners are $140 per person, plus tax and tip. The schedule is below; register at the event website:
- Brown Estate (with Coral Brown) – Friday, March 4, 2022
- Le Artishasic (with Sommelier Chris Hoel and Artie Johnson) – Friday, March 18, 2022
- Skywalker Vineyards (with Tom Johnson) – Friday, April 8, 2022
Wine, Beer and Mixology Education & Tasting Seminars
Wine enthusiasts, beer lovers and cocktail fans can choose from a selection of more than three dozen wine, beer and mixology seminars, and a four-part sommelier series. Tickets are $25 per person, and all events take place at the Sonoma Terrace inside Disney California Adventure on Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays. View the complete schedule and book reservations on the event website.
Soarin' Over California returns March 4
Disney announced last week that the original Soarin' Over California attraction film is returning to Disney California Adventure for a limited engagement starting March 4, to coincide with the Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival. The ride was an opening day attraction at DCA, but was updated in 2016 with a new film and renamed “Soarin' Around the World.”
Soarin' Over California will return for a limited time starting March 4. MousePlanet file photo.
Disney previously brought back the original Soarin' Over California film in 2019 for a promotional event. Many fans, including contributing writer Lisa Stiglic, consider the California version to be the superior film, and wish Disney would either return it for good, or use the attraction's dual screens to offer riders a choice of destinations.
Celebrate Gospel kicks off this weekend
The first performances of Disneyland's Celebrate Gospel event take place this Saturday, February 19. Gospel star Kierra Sheard headlines the first event, which also features gospel singers and community choirs. Performances begin at 3:00 p.m. on the Fantasyland Theater Stage in Disneyland.
This and That…
…The final Disneyland After Dark – Sweethearts Nite event will take place tonight, February 14. Disneyland will close at 7:00 p.m. for the event.

2022
2022
- Disneyland After Dark: Sweethearts' Nite – February 1, 3, 8, 10 and 14. All dates are sold out.
- Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival – March 4 to April 26, 2022
- Disneyland After Dark: Villains Nite at Disney California Adventure – March 8 & 10. All dates are sold out.
- Disneyland After Dark: Star Wars Nite – May 3, 4, 27 at Disneyland. All dates are sold out.
- Grad Nites: May 13, 14, 18, 20, 21, 25, 26 and 31; June 1, 3, 4, 7, 8, 10, 11 and 17
- 2022 D23 Expo – September 9–11, 2022 at the Anaheim Convention Center.
We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

Current Discounts and Promotions
Disneyland prices as of October 25, 2021.
Note: MousePlanet does not edit past Updates to reflect price increases; for up-to-date prices, check the most recent Disneyland Resort Update. Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!
This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don't get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.

SoCal Resident Ticket Offer
The Southern California Resident Ticket offers residents of Southern California admission to either Disneyland or Disney California Adventure up to three weekdays between January 3 and May 26, 2022.
You can use every day of this ticket at the same theme park, or visit different parks on different days, but you can't use it to enter both parks on the same day. The ticket is $199 for ages 3 and up, which is the same price as the 2020 offer. Of course, this new ticket is valid only Mondays through Fridays, and weekends are not included.
For an additional $60, you can also upgrade the ticket to a park-hopper, which allows entry to both parks each day. You can also add Disney Genie+ service for an additional $60 for the three days when purchased in advance. Tickets are available through the Disneyland website, or through MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.
There's no “fuse” on this ticket, which means that you can use the first admission on January 3 and wait until May 26 to use the remaining admission. However, remember that you must make a theme park reservation for each day that you want to use the ticket. Disney also warns that ticket sales may be paused or ended at any time, so it's probably best to purchase early so you're ready to make reservations as soon as they open for your desired travel dates.
Tickets expire on May 26, 2022, and unlike past years, do not have a spring blockout period. However, we estimate the peak Spring Break crowds will arrive April 11–22, 2022. so plan your visits accordingly.
Disney states that proof of residency is required for purchase and admission, and each resident can purchase up to five tickets per day.
