Food and Wine Festival kicks off Friday
The 2018 Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival begins this Friday at 10:30 a.m. As we did last year, MousePlanet will publish a weekly guide to the Food and Wine Festival, listing the highlights for each week—look for the first guide this Friday morning, with updates each Friday. Be sure to keep an eye on MousePlanet's Twitter feed this Friday, as we explore the 2018 Festival and share our first impressions.
Tropical Hideaway coming to Adventureland
We shared in January that Disney had filed a building permit for the a “dining conversion” of the Enchanted Tiki Room at Disneyland. At that time, we noted that the work was likely planned for the adjacent Aladdin’s Oasis space, but Disney had no additional information at the time to share about its plans.

Last week, Disneyland finally confirmed that a new location, known as the Tropical Hideaway, will open in Adventureland later this year, taking over the former Aladdin's Oasis spot. From the very small piece of concept art shared on the Disney Parks Blog, it appears that the former Cave of Wonders stage will be demolished, opening the oasis directly onto the Jungle Cruise.
From the updated building permit filed by Disney, we learned that the new outdoor dining area will be 4,315 square feet, and will include a new 8-foot-high rock work water feature, which is possibly the entry fountain shown in the concept art.
Disney has not said when the new location will open, nor have shared any idea of what food offerings will be available.
Lamplight Lounge to replace Ariel's Grotto
Disney also released some details of the permanent replacement for Ariel's Grotto and the Cove Bar in Disney California Adventure. The Lamplight Lounge will replace both spaces, creating one large, two-story venue with a common menu. No concept art was available for the new location, which is described as being themed as a repurposed warehouse.
Piecing together other bits of information, it seems that the Lamplight Lounge will have at least four distinct seating areas: the upstairs bar (current Cove Bar); the lower-level interior seating; lower-level seating on the newly enclosed patio space; and a brand new private dining area being sectioned from the main dining room.
Following up on a question raised last week, Disney says the Cove Bar will reopen March 16 and remain open through the end of May, for those fans who want to have one more beverage or snack before the final transformation begins in June.
At this time, Disney has not created a replacement for the Princess character dining previously offered at Ariel's Grotto.
Disneyland's exposed bricks
Some of the construction walls on Main Street, U.S.A. have come down, offering visitors a glimpse of the new brickwork that surrounds the horse-drawn carriage tracks. With the Plaza and Town Square sections opening up, this has eased congestion and improved sight lines along the street even though some walls remain up along Main Street.

The new bricks are similar to what was laid alongside the Red Car Trolley tracks in Disney California Adventure, and will likely provide a visual cue for pedestrians to stay clear of the carriages when they return to operation next month.

Stroll through Downtown Disney
I took advantage of a bright, clear day last week to stroll through Downtown Disney to check out the recent changes and additions.

This and that…
…This Sunday, March 4, is your last chance to ride King Triton's Carousel before the ride closes as part of the Pixar Pier renovation. Disney has not yet said what the plans are for this ride space.
…To reduce congestion in what is now essentially a dead end, Disney relocated Fastpass distribution for Toy Story Mania from Paradise Pier to a location near the Little Mermaid attraction. Look for the portable Fastpass machines to get your ticket.
…Mini Gay Days at Disneyland is scheduled for this Saturday, March 3. More information about this unofficial event can be found on the event website.
If you like the idea of having a Disney-themed phone case, but want something with more protection than the D-Tech line, Disneyland is now carrying a collection of Otter Box cases with Disney themes, including a Disney Parks-exclusive Castle design. A small collection was spotted in the World of Disney store, but there are quite a few more designs available. The Disney Parks Blog posted a list of which locations carry them.

…The clothing brand Opening Ceremony will host their Spring 2018 fashion show in Toontown on March 7. No additional details are available about the show at this time.
…While not as popular as the fresh candy canes, Disneyland's house-made fudge Easter Eggs are back in stock at the Candy Palace. Be sure to read the bottom label very carefully, as flavors vary, and some contain nuts.

Resort Events
Check here to see if a large convention, competition, or park event might fall during your next trip to the Disneyland Resort. If you know of any in-park events, official or unofficial, that should be listed here, please send us an e-mail (link).
- Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival – March 2 through April 12.

- Dapper Day Spring Outing to Disneyland (unofficial event) – Sunday, April 22. More information at the event website. This popular event grows larger each year, so it's worth making note of the date if you plan to visit the park during this weekend.
- MouseAdventure (unofficial event) – Sunday, April 29, 2018. More information on the event website.
- 2018 Grad Nites: May 4, 5, 11, 12, 15, 16, 18, 19, 22, 23, 29 and 30; June 1, 2, 5, 6, 8 and 9.
- CHOC Walk – Sunday, August 26. Additional details will be released soon.
- Moonlight Magic after-hours event for Disney Vacation Club members – Thursday, November 15. Reservations open October 4.
We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.
Non-Disney Resort Events
Notable events at parks and attractions around Southern California. If you know of an event that should be listed here, please send us an e-mail (link).
Current Discounts & Promotions
Disneyland prices as of February 11, 2018.
Note: MousePlanet does not edit past Updates to reflect price increases; for up-to-date prices, check the most recent Disneyland Resort Update. Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!
This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don't get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.

Additional Discounts

Discounts for:
Everyone |
Purchase with Purchase offers – Disneyland Resort shops frequently offer a reduced–price souvenir (often a tote bag, watch, or blanket) with a qualifying minimum purchase. These are offered at Disney-operated stores only, and selection may vary by location. Disney usually allows customers to purchase more than one of the offers in a qualifying transaction, so if you spend $40 or more you can buy both items currently available if you wish. If you're a passholder, the minimum purchase is calculated after your discount, and your discount does not apply to the promotional item. Current offers:
Landry's Select Club – members of the Landry's Select Club get priority seating at the Rainforest Cafe when available (which makes a huge difference on busy days). This club replaces the former Rainforest Cafe Safari Club, and runs on a point-based system that gives you a $25 gift certificate after you spend $250. Membership now costs $25, but comes with a $25 birthday reward. We recommend that you pre-purchase your membership before your visit so you can take advantage of the priority seating benefit. ESPNZone MVP Club – membership in the MVP Club does not offer any discounts on food. However, once a member you can make an online reservation for your party up to three days in advance and will get a 25 percent increase in points purchased when playing games in the Sports Arena (and 40 bonus points at activation). You must register online and your membership card will then be mailed to you within two weeks. The card must then be activated at any ESPNZone by the person who signed up for the card and ID will be required (link). Character Dining Vouchers – discounted character dining vouchers are available for purchase online, in advance of your trip, through Get Away Travel. |

Southern California residents |
Southern California residents can visit the Disneyland Resort theme parks multiple days before May 24, 2018 for as little as $159 with the 2018 So Cal Resident ticket. The 2-Day So Cal Resident 1-Park Per Day ticket offers residents of Southern California and Northern Baja California admission to either Disneyland or Disney California Adventure on one day, and then a second visit to either park on another day on or before May 24. You can use both days of this ticket at the same theme park, or visit one park one day and the other park on the second day, but you cannot use it to enter both parks on the same day. The ticket is $159 for ages 3 and up, a discount of 20% compared to box office prices and a $10 increase from the 2017 promotion. You can also upgrade the ticket to a park-hopper, which allows entry to both parks each day, for an additional $45, a savings of up to $40 compared to the box office price of a two-day park-hopper ticket. If you want an extra day to visit the parks, there is also a 3-Day 1-Park per Day option ($199) and a 3-Day Park Hopper ticket ($244) in the promotion. You can either purchase tickets at the Disneyland Resort ticket booths, or online at Disneyland.com and print them at home. You can also purchase them by calling (714) 781-4636. If purchased in advance of arrival, the three-day tickets include one Magic Morning admission. This benefit does not come with tickets purchased at the theme park ticket booths, so make sure to order online and print at home before you arrive. If purchasing at a participating third party ticket outlet, double-check that their 3-day tickets come with this feature. There is no “fuse” on this ticket, which means you can use the first admission today and wait until May to use the second (or third) admission. You must, however, purchase the ticket by May 21, 2018. Tickets expire May 24, 2018, and are blocked out March 23 through April 8, 2018. |
