Red Rose Taverne pops up in Fantasyland
As part of an in-park marketing campaign for the upcoming theatrical release of the live-action Beauty and the Beast, Fantasyland's Village Haus restaurant has transformed into the Red Rose Taverne. For the duration of the “limited time” promotion, the restaurant has a new name and new menu, with some surprising offerings for a theme park setting.

The restaurant officially debuted last Friday, but some park visitors got to sample the new menu during soft opening previews Wednesday and Thursday. The line to dine at the restaurant exceeded an hour at several points during the weekend, with some fans lining up nearly an hour before the restaurant opened Sunday morning so they could be the first inside.
Part of the excitement was around a new souvenir glass released at the restaurant. The Red Rose Sipper cup is crafted to look like the glass cloche that held the Beast's enchanted rose, with the rose forming part of the straw inside the cup. They reportedly sold out Saturday afternoon, and cast members are unsure when the next shipment would arrive.
As part of the promotion, Gaston can often be found wandering Fantasyland outside of the restaurant. The shop next to the Village Haus has been transformed into a Beauty and the Beast pop-up shop filled with merchandise from both the animated and new versions of the story.

- Beast’s Burger ($13.49) – a 1/3 pound Angus beef patty, slow-cooked beef, Gruyere cheese, caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato, and horseradish aioli on a toasted roll.
- Classic Angus Cheeseburger ($10.99) – a 1/3 pound Angus beef patty with cheese, lettuce, tomato, and signature sauce on a toasted roll.
- Enchanted Cauliflower Sandwich ($10.99) – a grilled cauliflower steak, spicy lime aioli, tempura-battered green beans, lettuce, and tomato on a toasted roll.
- Slow-Cooked Beef Poutine ($10.99) – slow-cooked beef and gravy over seasoned waffle-cut fries, pickled onions, and cheese curds.
- Chicken Sandwich à la Lumière ($10.99) – grilled chicken breast, apple slaw, onion-bacon jam, and fried cherry peppers on a toasted roll.
- Chef’s Chopped Salad ($8.99) – cabbage, Romaine and iceberg lettuce, smoked bacon, apple, hard-cooked eggs, blue cheese crumbles, garlic croutons, and apple vinaigrette.
- Poutine Flatbread ($9.49) – topped with slow-cooked beef, pomme frites, roasted garlic aioli, cheese curds, gravy, and herb oil.
- Garden Mozzarella Flatbread ($8.99) – topped with marinated tomatoes, fresh Mozzarella, basil, and tomato sauce.
- Pulled Pork Flatbread ($9.49) – topped with pulled pork, roasted corn, sweet and spicy barbecue sauce, pickled onions, and cilantro.

- Grey Stuff Gateau ($5.49) – a white chocolate mousse and red velvet cake with a sweet raspberry center. [Jenny notes that the raspberry center is an actual whole raspberry.]
- Lemon Rose Cake ($5.49) – a lemon mousse cake with strawberry-rose filling.
- Gaston’s Famous Brew ($4.99) – apple-mango punch topped with passion fruit foam.

Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival menu released
The 2017 Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival kicks off in just over two weeks, and Disney last week released the full menu of food items to be sold at the marketplace booths during the event. There are a few returning favorites (including the grilled beef tenderloin slider with chimichurri sauce, the maple-bacon whoopie pie, and a Meyer lemon macaron), and but quite a lot of the menu is new for the 2017 event. Pricing was not provided for the items, and is unlikely to be released until the booths open on Friday, March 10.

runDisney news – Tinker Bell volunteer registration delayed; Disneyland event themes released
MousePlanet readers who tried last week to register to volunteer for the Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend at the Disneyland Resort alerted us that registration had not opened Tuesday morning as originally scheduled. One reader contacted runDisney via the email link posted on the volunteer website, and received a reply stating that a third-party company had been hired to manage staffing needs for the event. The email directed them to contact that third party agency directly, but no contact information was provided.
We checked with sources at both runDisney and at Disneyland, and were able to confirm only that volunteer registration had been delayed for the Tinker Bell event. Details about how volunteer registration will be handled for future West Coast events was not available last week, and we're waiting for an update.
Meanwhile, readers who are interested in volunteering for the Disneyland event should keep an eye on the runDisney volunteer website, which has been renamed “race support.” We'll post additional information when we learn it.
runDisney last week announced a Pixar theme for the 2017 Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend events. The half marathon has a Toy Story theme, while Monster's University provides the theme for the 10K. The 5K is based on The Incredibles, and the Kids Races are themed to Up. The fifth annual Disney Double Dare is a celebration of Pixar Animation Studios.
Registration is still open through runDisney for both the Disneyland Half Marathon and the Disneyland Double Dare events. Registration for the sold-out Disneyland 10K and 5K events may be available through charity and travel groups, including Team Muscle Makers for UCMD, a charity formed and run by MousePlanet readers.

…Steakhouse 55 at the Disneyland Hotel has debuted a new breakfast menu featuring upscale comfort food. The new dishes include three versions of eggs Benedict, pork belly chilaquiles, fried chicken and waffles, and a thick German apple pancake. Click here for photos of the a few of the new offerings. …Disney has filed for a permit to install a “Fantasmic Programming Trailer” backstage in Disneyland. The permit is valid March 1 through June 20, 2017, which may provide some sort of hint as to when Fantasmic may reopen. However, Disney has also filed for a permit to build a temporary performance stage and truss structure for the Disney Performing Arts program in the Hollywood Backlot area of Disney California Adventure. That permit also expires June 20. It's possible that these permits are only issued for 90 days at a time, and so may not be as useful in predicting the timing of the return of Fantasmic.
…On the subject of permits, Disney has filed over a dozen permits related to antenna cell site work in and around the theme parks. All of the permits are for “modifications to existing” sites, and there's no additional information about the scope or reason for the work.

Disneyland Resort
- House of Blues Anaheim – closed. The 23,000-square-foot restaurant and concert venue has been demolished. A new Splitsville Lanes is scheduled to open on the site in late 2017.
Disneyland Resort Hotels

Grand Californian Hotel Pools – closed through spring 2017. All three of the pools at the hotel will be closed for refurbishment, including the Redwood Pool and water slide, the Fountain Pool, and the Mariposa Pool. The cabanas will also close during this time. During the refurbishment, which is expected to last at least through March, people staying at the Grand Californian Hotel can use the pool facilities at the Disneyland Hotel or Paradise Pier Hotel.

- Super Heroes Half Marathon Weekend – November 9–12. This event adds to the Veteran's Day weekend crowds. Registration is still open for some events via the runDisney website.
School Holidays
Notable school holidays that may impact park attendance. If you know of any other school holidays that should be listed here, please send us an e-mail (link).
2017
- Cesar Chavez Day – Friday, March 31. Many locals schools are closed.
- Spring Break – April 2–29. The four-week period during which most local schools will observe a one-week spring holiday. Based on the blockout dates of the Southern California discount tickets, Disney expects the largest crowds April 9–23.
- Utah Education Association convention (UEA, a.k.a. “Utah Escapes to Anaheim”) – October 19–20. Expect large attendance levels October 19–22 as Utah students and families take advantage of a 4-day weekend created by their school's participation in a state education convention. Not all Utah schools or teachers close for or attend UEA, but the impact on the Resort is usually noticeable enough to mention.
- Nevada Day – October 28. Nevada schools will be closed on Friday, October 28 to observe Nevada Day, creating a three-day weekend.
We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don't get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency.

Three Day Tickets |
The 3-Day So Cal Resident 1-Park Per Day ticket offers residents of Southern California and Northern Baja California admission to either Disneyland or Disney California Adventure on one day, and then a second visit to either park on another day on or before May 25, 2017. You can use both days of this ticket at the same theme park, or visit one park one day and the other park on the second day, but you cannot use it to enter both parks on the same day. The ticket is $149 for ages 3 and up. You can also upgrade this ticket to a 3-Day Park Hopper, which allows entry to both parks each day, for an additional $40, a savings of up to $106 compared to the box office price of a three-day park-hopper ticket. If purchased in advance of arrival, the three-day tickets include one Magic Morning admission. This benefit does not come with tickets purchased at the theme park ticket booths, so make sure to order online and print at home before you arrive. If purchasing at a participating third party ticket outlet, double-check that their 3-day tickets come with this feature. There is no “fuse” on this ticket, which means you can use the first admission today and wait until May to use the second (or third) admission. You must, however, purchase the ticket by May 22, 2017. 2017 Military Salute Offer Disney released details of its 2017 Military Salute offer for Disneyland and Walt Disney World last October, and the tickets are valid January 1 through April 8 and April 24 through December 19, 2017. At the time we first shared details of the offer, we did not know about (or Disney had not announced) a special PhotoPass promotion also available to military personnel. Through December 19, 2017, active and retired U.S. military personnel who are eligible for the Military Salute offer can also purchase the Disney PhotoPass Collection for $49, a discount of 50% over the usual $99 price. The Disney PhotoPass Collection includes digital downloads of all available PhotoPass photos linked to your account, a voucher for a dining print package and a Disneyland Resort Gallery Disc with 350 high-resolution professional photos from around Disneyland Resort. Southern California CityPASS ($346/$314) – includes a 3-Day Disneyland Resort Park Hopper Bonus Ticket (including one early-entry day), a one-day admission to Sea World San Diego, and a one-day admission to LEGOLAND California. The CityPASS expires 14 days after first use at any location, and the first use must occur by December 31, 2017. Purchase CityPASS through the Disneyland website or on-site at the ticket booths of Disneyland Resort or the other theme parks included in the pass. You can also purchase directly from the CityPASS website, though a shipping charge may apply depending on how quickly you need the ticket. When you purchase the CityPASS, you have the option of adding a one-day admission to either San Diego Zoo or San Diego Safari Park for an extra $42/$34. These are offered at Disney-operated stores only, and selection may vary by location. Recently, Disney has begun allowing customers to purchase more than one of the offers in a qualifying transaction, so if you spend $40 or more you can buy both items currently available if you wish. If you're a passholder, the minimum purchase is calculated after your discount, and your discount does not apply to the promotional item. Current offers:
Landry's Select Club – members of the Landry's Select Club get priority seating at the Rainforest Cafe when available (which makes a huge difference on busy days). This club replaces the former Rainforest Cafe Safari Club, and runs on a point-based system that gives you a $25 gift certificate after you spend $250. Membership now costs $25, but comes with a $25 birthday reward. We recommend that you prepurchase your membership before your visit so you can take advantage of the priority seating benefit. ESPNZone MVP Club – membership in the MVP Club does not offer any discounts on food. However, once a member you can make an online reservation for your party up to three days in advance and will get a 25 percent increase in points purchased when playing games in the Sports Arena (and 40 bonus points at activation). You can also upgrade this ticket to a 3-Day Park Hopper, which allows entry to both parks each day, for an additional $40, a savings of up to $106 compared to the box office price of a three-day park-hopper ticket. If purchased in advance of arrival, the three-day tickets include one Magic Morning admission. This benefit does not come with tickets purchased at the theme park ticket booths, so make sure to order online and print at home before you arrive. If purchasing at a participating third party ticket outlet, double-check that their 3-day tickets come with this feature. There is no “fuse” on this ticket, which means you can use the first admission today and wait until May to use the second (or third) admission. You must, however, purchase the ticket by May 22, 2017. Costco Travel Packages – many different travel packages including visits to Disneyland and Disneyland hotels are available through Costco. Disney's Resort Magic and Good Neighbor Magic Packages – These package includes accommodations in one of the three resort hotels or at one of 40 Good Neighbor hotels, along with theme park admission. The packages also come with a variety of extra inclusions and bonuses, usually a souvenir pin and lanyard, and discount coupons for various Downtown Disney merchants.
