Wildfire impact on the Disneyland Resort
It’s been difficult to write this week’s Update, as my attention keeps being pulled to the latest updates about the wildfires which have destroyed so much of Los Angeles County this past week. My family is safe in Orange County, well away from the blazes, but my heart is heavy for the friends who have had to evacuate their own homes, and for the first responders I am lucky to call friends who are actively on the front lines as I type. I grieve with the families of the 24 victims already known, and for the thousands who have lost their homes.
The two largest fires are quite some distance from the Disneyland Resort, but the effects have been felt in Anaheim even so. Some Resort-area hotels reached capacity in what is normally a “slow” period, as thousands of people were forced to evacuate, or voluntarily left Los Angeles because of poor air quality. The Los Angeles Times reported that evacuees were going as far south as San Diego and Palm Springs to find lodging.
The hotel impact may lessen this week, as evacuation orders are lifted and Angelinos return to their homes. However, this fire event is far from over, with fires still burning and another period of high winds expected this week. Orange County was spared during this most recent firestorm, but we never know what the future holds.
Some people reported that the theme parks seemed especially busy this weekend, and it’s entirely possible some evacuees took their children to the Happiest Place on Earth as a distraction from the fires, especially with the two discount offers which just started last week. This week looks to be busy as well – at publication time there were no Magic Key reservations available between January 14 and 20, though there were reservations for all daily ticket options. This may be in part due to the number of schools which have canceled classes this week, as districts decide how to deal with smoldering campuses and displaced educators.
The history of The Walt Disney Company is inextricably linked to the greater Los Angeles region, and the destruction from the devastating fires affecting thousands in our area is truly heartbreaking. Writing, “the history of The Walt Disney Company is inextricably linked to the greater Los Angeles region,” Disney on Friday announced it was “committing $15 million for initial and immediate response and rebuilding efforts.” This includes direct donations to “vital organizations offering essential services on the ground, including the American Red Cross, the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, and the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, among others,” as well as assistance to Disney employees impacted by the fires.
Former Imagineer Joe Rohde wrote on Instagram about his former community of Altadena, where untold numbers of Disney creatives lived over the years. Wide swaths of the unincorporated town were burned to the ground last week in the Eaton fire, which moved in so quickly there was little time for residents to do more than flee. Beyond being a nexus of Imagineers, Altadena has a fascinating social and racial history, and is considered one of the most integrated cities in California.
There are already thousands of fundraisers and appeals to aid the people impacted by these fires. If you are moved to help, please be sure that the organizations you support are legitimate – I recommend looking them up on CharityNavigator.org to make sure your funds are going where they are needed. Many organizations on the ground in Los Angeles are overwhelemed with donations of physical items, and are really looking for financial contributions so they can directly purchase – often at discounted, bulk rates – the items they need most.
Once such group is the LA Regional Food Bank., which the Walt Disney Company is supporting and for which reader Jeff Gordon has organized a fundraiser that has collected more than $5000 as of press time. Jeff has organized a number of similar campaigns over the years, rallying Disney fans from around the world to help provide food security to those in need.
Help LA regional Food Bank assist Fire Victims . 150,000 evacuated, 100,000 more under warning . 10,000 structures gone (est) Employees now with immediate unemployment. So many needing assistance with Food . Please share & or donate. Every dollar counts https://t.co/Lv0ikE0M3F

Pasadena Humane is helping to shelter, feed and provide medical care to thousands of animals displaced by the fires. Two weeks ago, millions of people around the world watched as Pasadena Humane won the Theme Award for the 136th Rose Parade in Pasadena. Now the group is asking for help during this disaster which has hit much too close to home. If you’ve ever attended the Rose Parade in person, or gone to view the floats after the parade, perhaps it will give some perspective to know that the final mile of the parade route and the entire staging area for FloatFest was part of the evacuation zone for the Eaton fire. Those beautiful Southern California hills you see in videos taken from the Goodyear Blimp now resemble moonscapes.
One final organization for now is World Central Kitchen, which has mobilized a truly unbelievable team of chefs and food trucks to feed both those displaced by the fires, but also the first responders who have been working grueling shifts in indescribable conditions to protect life and property.
WCK is expanding meal distribution sites to serve communities impacted by the California fires. Efforts include supporting first responder hubs to ensure firefighters have enough food and water to sustain their nonstop work. #ChefsForCalifornia pic.twitter.com/f2R4WIQcJq

Again, the needs are too great to detail here, but these are just a few reputable groups who are on the ground in LA and providing immediate aid. MousePlanet will also be hosting a series of auctions of Disney souvenirs to support local agencies in the coming dates – be sure to keep an eye on our social media for details.
Lunar New Year celebration begins Friday
Festival season kicks off this week when the Lunar New Year celebration begins at Disney California Adventure. Disney last week released their Foodie Guide to the festival, detailing the menu items available at the six Lunar New Year Marketplaces, as well as the restaurants, carts and quick service locations in the park. Downtown Disney restaurants and eateries in the three Disneyland Resort hotels are also participating in the month-long festival, so you’ll need good walking shoes and even restaurant reservations to sample everything the Year of the Snake has to offer.
New this year, Disney is offering three different versions of the Sip & Savor pass, each featuring a different pair of characters in traditional Korean, Chinese and Vietnamese garb. You can request a specific design at the time of purchase, while supplies last. Each pass is good for six tasting-size portions of food and non-alcoholic beverages from the Lunar New Year Marketplaces and participating restaurants.
While the Festival officially begins Friday, the marketplaces often have a “soft opening” the day before, so anyone visiting Thursday should keep an eye out for a chance to sample the new dishes.
Haunted Mansion reopens Saturday
Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion reopens this Saturday, January 18 in it’s non-holiday version for the first time since August, 2023. That’s when the ride was last decorated with the Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay. The ride closed again in January, 2024 for a major remodel, but Disney did not remove the holiday decor before the attraction reopened this summer. It has been in Holiday mode ever since, and closed just last week at the end of he 2024 holiday season.
Last week an error on the Disneyland website caused quite a stir, and reports spread that the Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay would not return in time for Halloween next year. Disneyland quickly corrected the error, assuring fans that the Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay would debut on August 22, 2025, NOT November 14 as previously stated. The holiday version will run through January 7, 2026 before the regular Haunted Mansion returns.
Registration opens this week for Disney Vacation Club Moonlight Magic event
Disney Vacation Club members who meet eligibility requirements should mark their calendars to register for the Disney Vacation Club Moonlight Magic event scheduled for Monday, February 3.
Registration will first open on Wednesday, January 15 to eligible members who have a qualifying resort reservation the night of the event. (This generally means you purchased your DVC contract directly from Disney, and have used those points to book your hotel stay).
For all other eligible DVC members, any remaining reservation spots will be up for grabs starting Friday, January 17.
Because DVC only hosts one of these events in California per year, vs. the nine scheduled this year for the Walt Disney World resort, I turned to our Alan Dalinka for registration tips. Alan says registration typically opens at 11:00 a.m. Eastern (so 8:00 a.m. Pacific), and notes that there are some changes since the last time west coast registration opened:
Full details and reservation requirements are on this page of DVC’s website, and that is the page where the RSVP link appears on registration dates.
It looks like DVC may have finally fixed a past problem with the registration process:
To enter the virtual waiting room, an eligible Member number must be entered. This process secures your Membership a random place in line. Do not refresh the page as access is limited.
In the past, folks trying to register were not required to enter a Member number until they reached the registration form itself which meant that the virtual queue for the registration form could be filled with lots of folks that were not eligible to register for the events and it allowed eligible members to open multiple windows to attempt to register. Hopefully, the new virtual queue will verify the eligibility of a Member number and only allow it to enter the virtual queue once per registration period. We shall see…
Once successfully registered for an event, the DVC member designated as attending in the registration form is the one that must be present at check-in to check-in the entire party, and that member must have their digital member identification (preferably loaded in their device’s digital wallet) and photo I.D. The entire party must check in together, and early entry to the park before the event’s designated “mix-in” time requires a separate park admission (and park reservation for applicable ticket and pass-types).

- Candlelight Processional – December 5 & 6. (Most likely dates, but still unconfirmed)
We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it’s best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.
Tickets, Discounts and Promotions
Disneyland prices as of October 9, 2024.
Note: MousePlanet does not edit past Updates to reflect price increases; for up-to-date prices, check the most recent Disneyland Resort Update. Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!
This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don’t get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.
One Day Tickets
Ticket & Season | Adult One-Park | Child (3–9) One-Park | Park Hopper Add-On |
---|---|---|---|
One Day – Tier 0 | $104 | $98 | $65 |
One Day – Tier 1 | $126 | $116 | $65 |
One Day – Tier 2 | $142 | $132 | $65 |
One Day – Tier 3 | $164 | $146 | $70 |
One Day – Tier 4 | $180 | $170 | $70 |
One Day – Tier 5 | $196 | $186 | $75 |
One Day – Tier 6 | $206 | $196 | $75 |
- Lightning Lane Multi Pass Add-On – $32 per day, per ticket when purchased in advance. Demand-based pricing applies to same-day purchases, starting at $33 per ticket.
- Lightning Lane Premier Pass Add-On – $400 per day, per ticket
Check the Disneyland website to see what type of ticket you need for the day you plan to visit. Seasonal pricing applies only to one-day tickets.

Kids Special Offer Ticket
This popular ticket is valid for visits between January 7 and March 20, 2025. You can purchase 1-, 2- or 3-day park tickets, and add on optional Park Hopper and/or Lightning Lane Multi Pass service upgrades.
These tickets start at $50 per day. In comparison, the current price for 1-day, 1-park child ticket can range from $98 for a “Tier 0,” to $194 for “Tier 6.” A fully-loaded 3-day park hopper ticket with the Lightning Lane Multi Pass add-on runs $336 with this offer, compared to the current price of $365 for just the ticket alone. That said, the cost of the add-ons really cuts into the value of these tickets. If you have the ability to spend more days, skip the add-ons and just enjoy a longer visit.
Ticket Duration and Type | One Park Per Day | Park Hopper add on | Lightning Lane Multi Pass Add On |
One Day | $50 | $45 | $32 |
Two Day | $100 | $85 | $64 |
Three Day | $150 | $90 | $96 |
Read the fine print carefully, because you need to make a theme park reservation to use this ticket, and Disney will set aside only a limited number of reservations for this ticket type each day. As with the prior offer, the terms state, “reservation availability for Kids’ Special Offer Ticket holders is not guaranteed for any date, and reservations may be difficult to get for any particular date, especially as the ticket expiration date approaches.”
In addition to requiring a theme park reservation, this ticket also has a “fuse”—which means multi-day tickets expire 13 days after the first day of use (or on March 20, 2025, whichever comes first). You won’t need to use all two or three days consecutively, but you will need to make sure to use them all before they expire. From past experience, it will be difficult to get reservations the last week of this offer unless you plan well in advance.

SoCal Resident 3-Day Ticket Offer
Southern California residents can visit the Disneyland Resort theme parks three days between January 1 and May 15, 2025 for as little as $199.
There are four versions of the Special Southern California Resident Ticket, starting at $199:
- 3-day, 1 park per day ticket – $199 per person
- 3-day Park Hopper ticket – $289 per person
- 3-day, 1 park per day ticket with Lightning Lane Multi Pass – $295 per person
- 3-day, Park Hopper ticket with Lightning Lane Multi Pass – $385 per person
Unlike the 2024 offer, the base version of this ticket is valid 7 days a week, not just weekdays. Even better, the January 1st start date means many visitors can use this ticket to catch the last few days of this year’s Holidays at the Disneyland Resort festivities and the Festival of Holidays before they end on January 6.
The fine print of these offers changes slightly each season, so be sure to pay close attention to details before you purchase to get the most value for your money. We note that residents of Northern Baja California are again excluded from this offer.
There is no “fuse” on this ticket, which means that you can use the first admission on January 1 and wait until May 15 to use the remaining admission. However, remember that you must make a theme park reservation for each day that you want to use the ticket. Disney also warns that ticket sales may be paused or ended at any time, so it’s probably best to purchase early so you’re ready to make reservations as soon as they open for your desired travel dates. Reservations can now be made up to 180 days in advance, which as of press time includes the entire duration of this offer.
Disney states that proof of residency is required for purchase and admission, and each resident can purchase up to five tickets per day.

Now through December 23, 2025, active and retired U.S. military personnel (including active and retired members of the United States Coast Guard, National Guard and Reservists) or their spouses can purchase:
- 3-Day Military Promotional Park Hopper Ticket: $295 ($26 increase from the 2024 offer)
- 3-Day Military Promotional Park Hopper Ticket with Lightning Lane Multi Pass: $391 ($32 increase)
- 4-Day Military Promotional Park Hopper Ticket: $349 ($34 increase)

Disneyland tickets may be used January 1 through December 27, 2025, which adds New Years Day and Christmas week to the offer. There are no other blockout dates this year, so the ticket is valid during spring break, summer, Halloween Time and beyond.
Active and retired U.S. military personnel can purchase Disney Military Promotional Tickets for themselves and up to five additional family members or friends. No more than six Disney Military Promotional Tickets may be purchased by any eligible member of the U.S. military (or spouse) pursuant to this offer. All tickets and options are non-transferable and must be used by December 27, 2025.
This offer must be purchased at a participating US military base ticket office. Eligible US Military service members can also buy tickets via GOVX.com
2025 Military Hotel discounts
Military discounts are valid for stays most nights from January 1 through December 27, 2025. You can book now through December 23, 2025, and travel must be completed by December 28, 2024.
Disney does not publish the actual discounted rates, and instead asks eligible U.S. military personnel to call (800) 453-4911 to check pricing, availability and to make reservations. In past years, the offer was generally 30% to 40% off, based on room category. Concierge rooms, Signature or Premium suites, or 2-or 3-Bedroom Villas are excluded from the offer, and this offer can not be combined with any other discount.
Unlike the Walt Disney World version, the Disneyland offer allows the eligible service member to book up to two rooms, and allows their spouse (with valid and proper ID) to qualify in the absence of the service member.
