Disneyland Resort Annual Passholder Days return February 10
A month-long AP Days promotion has been announced for the Disneyland Resort February 10 through March 9. The event is themed to commemorate the return of the Main Street Electrical Parade, and activities are centered in Disneyland park.
An AP Welcome Center will be open in the Tomorrowland Starcade daily from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m..
Special offerings include:
- Meet-and-greets with special retro Characters
- Family-friendly activities, including parade-themed paper crafts and an AP Adventure activity
- Complimentary AP Days goodies, including Disneyland Resort recipe cards from yesteryear and a button series featuring new Main Street Electrical Parade artwork each week
- Exclusive AP Days merchandise, including T-shirts, lanyards, pins, tumblers, and more
- AP Days guide map
- Parade-themed photo opportunity
- Lounge, phone-charging area, and more
As we mentioned last week, annual passholders can purchase a new refillable popcorn bucket at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure now through March 19. The buckets are $15 each, and refills are $1 each, plus tax.

In addition to the AP Welcome Center, the Main Street Opera House will be open daily after 4:00 p.m. for “screenings of historical parade videos.” Several Disneyland restaurants are also offering a “secret AP menu” during the promotion—the AP Welcome Center will have full menu details starting on the Friday, February 10, or you can check with each participating restaurant:

Registration opens Tuesday for Super Heroes Half Marathon Weekend events
General registration opens tomorrow, Tuesday, January 31 at 9:00 a.m. (Pacific), for the 2017 Avengers Half Marathon weekend events, scheduled November 9-12, 2017. The weekend includes the Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon, the Thor 10K, the Spider-Man 5K and the runDisney Kids races. Runners who want an added challenge can register for the Infinity Gauntlet Challenge and complete both the half marathon and 10K races to earn an extra medal.
Registration for this event was slow in 2016, with spots in some events available up until race weekend. Registration for the 2017 event comes months earlier than in past years, and 10 months before the race itself. With Disney pushing registration up so far this year, we don't expect sales to be any more brisk than in past years. Still, the 5K and 10K distances seem to be the most popular, so it's always best just to register as soon as you can commit to the schedule, just in case the events prove to be more popular than in 2016.
Proof of time for half marathon starting corral placement must be submitted by August 1, 2017.

The 21 Royal Experience
If you and your 11 closest friends have $15,000 to splurge on a once-in-a-lifetime dinner experience, the Disneyland Resort has just the venue. 21 Royal is an exclusive dining venue located in New Orleans Square, situated above Pirates of the Caribbean and adjacent to the Disney Dream Suite.

Refurbishment season
Refurbishment season is definitely underway at the Disneyland Resort, and I've been remiss in discussing some of the non-attraction projects underway.
Last year I noted that permits had been filed to refurbish and expand the Adventureland bathroom complex. That work is now underway, and those restrooms are closed. Closed also is the adjacent Pioneer Mercantile store, which may be losing some stockroom space to the expansion. This closures of the one of the largest bathroom complexes on the west side has caused long lines at nearby bathrooms, including the Rancho del Zocalo, New Orleans Square and even the “hidden” Tiki Room bathroom. If you're not in a hurry and headed that way anyway, the bathrooms in Critter Country are large and so out of the way that there's rarely a wait.

Also closed for refurbishment is Snow White's Grotto. According to permits filed, it appears the bridge is being replaced.

This is the last week to ride the Matterhorn Bobsleds before they close on February 6 for refurbishment. The reopening date has not been announced, but the ride is expected to be closed into late April, which means most Spring Break visitors will not have a chance to ride during their trips. Also closing this week is Pirates of the Caribbean, which reopens on March 15. The Blue Bayou restaurant is not closed during this refurbishment.

Both “it's a small world” and the Jungle Cruise will reopen on Thursday, February 2 after their post-holiday refurbishments. The Castle Heraldry Shoppe has closed in Fantasyland, and the space around the store is currently designated as stroller parking for the nearby Peter Pan attraction.

Over at Disney California Adventure, Redwood Creek Challenge Trail and Grizzly River Run are still closed, with the water raft ride not scheduled to reopen until sometime in March. Mickey's Fun Wheel closes next Monday, February 6 for a month-long refurbishment. The World of Color show is now scheduled to be dark February 21 through March 7 for refurbishment.

A Grand refurbishment
A full renovation of the guest rooms at the Grand Californian Hotel is in the works, and the hotel has posted sample boards in one lobby walkway to give guests a preview of what is to come.

Refurbishment of the pool area at the Grand Californian Hotel also began right after the new year, and is scheduled to continue through at least March. All three of the pools at the hotel are closed, including the Redwood Pool and water slide, the Fountain Pool, and the Mariposa Pool. During the refurbishment, people staying at the Grand Californian Hotel can use the pool facilities at the Disneyland Hotel or Paradise Pier Hotel.

MousePlanet auctions for charity
Items MousePlanet receives at Disney press events are sold at auction to benefit a number of local charities, including Team Muscle Makers for UCMD, an organization founded by MousePlanet readers Melissa Martin Mayorgas and Lonna Eshelman.
The team raises awareness for Ullrich Congenital Muscular Dystrophy, a rare form of muscular dystrophy with only a few hundred documented cases worldwide. The team raises money through endurance events, including runDisney events at both Disneyland and now Walt Disney World as an official runDisney charity partner, with the funds going to the Muscle Disease Clinic at Rady Children's Hopsital in San Diego.

…Tickets go on sale this Wednesday, February 1 for the premium events planned as part of the 2017 Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival, March 10 through April 16. Disney has not yet released a schedule of these events or given any indication of pricing, but we're expecting an announcement to be made sometime Monday.
…If you stop by the Lunar New Year celebration at DCA this week, look for the free face painting booth outside the Little Mermaid attraction. The line can get fairly long, but there are some cute designs to choose from, and usually a PhotoPass photographer nearby with a Lunar New Year sign to pose with for a photo.

…A 3-D extended sneak preview of the upcoming live-action Beauty and the Beast film will be shown at the Sunset Showcase Theater in Hollywood Land starting February 10. A collection of props and costumes from the film's production will also be on display during the preview's run. The film is set to debut in the U.S. on March 17. You can see one trailer here:

School Holidays

2017
- Cesar Chavez Day – Friday, March 31. Many locals schools are closed.
- Spring Break – April 2–29. The four-week period during which most local schools will observe a one-week spring holiday. Based on the blockout dates of the Southern California discount tickets, Disney expects the largest crowds April 9 through April 23, 2017
- Utah Education Association convention (UEA, a.k.a. “Utah Escapes to Anaheim”) – October 19-20. Expect large attendance levels October 19–22 as Utah students and families take advantage of a 4-day weekend created by their school's participation in a state education convention. Not all Utah schools or teachers close for or attend UEA, but the impact on the Resort is usually noticeable enough to mention.
- Nevada Day – October 28. Nevada schools will be closed on Friday, October 28 to observe Nevada Day, creating a 3-day weekend.
We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don't get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency.

Military |
2017 Military Salute Offer Disney released details of its 2017 Military Salute offer for Disneyland and Walt Disney World last October, and the tickets are valid January 1 through April 8 and April 24 through December 19, 2017. At the time we first shared details of the offer, we did not know about (or Disney had not announced) a special PhotoPass promotion also available to military personnel. From January 1 to December 19, 2017, active and retired U.S. military personnel who are eligible for the Military Salute offer can also purchase the Disney PhotoPass Collection for $49, a discount of 50% over the usual $99 price. The Disney PhotoPass Collection includes digital downloads of all available PhotoPass photos linked to your account, a voucher for a dining print package and a Disneyland Resort Gallery Disc with 350 high-resolution professional photos from around Disneyland Resort. Southern California CityPASS |
Southern California CityPASS ($346/$314) – includes a 3-Day Disneyland Resort Park Hopper Bonus Ticket (including one early-entry day), a one-day admission to Sea World San Diego, and a one-day admission to LEGOLAND California. The CityPASS expires 14 days after first use at any location, and the first use must occur by December 31, 2017. Purchase CityPASS through the Disneyland website or on-site at the ticket booths of Disneyland Resort or the other theme parks included in the pass. You can also purchase directly from the CityPASS website, though a shipping charge may apply depending on how quickly you need the ticket. When you purchase the CityPASS, you have the option of adding a one-day admission to either San Diego Zoo or San Diego Safari Park for an extra $42/$34. This upgraded pass is only available for purchase directly from the CityPASS website. You can also upgrade your CityPASS to add more days at participating locations:

Purchase with Purchase offers – Disneyland Resort shops frequently offer a reduced–price souvenir (often a tote bag, watch, or blanket) with a qualifying minimum purchase. These are offered at Disney-operated stores only, and selection may vary by location. Recently, Disney has begun allowing customers to purchase more than one of the offers in a qualifying transaction, so if you spend $40 or more you can buy both items currently available if you wish. If you're a passholder, the minimum purchase is calculated after your discount, and your discount does not apply to the promotional item. Current offers:
Landry's Select Club – members of the Landry's Select Club get priority seating at the Rainforest Cafe when available (which makes a huge difference on busy days). This club replaces the former Rainforest Cafe Safari Club, and runs on a point-based system that gives you a $25 gift certificate after you spend $250. Membership now costs $25, but comes with a $25 birthday reward. We recommend that you prepurchase your membership before your visit so you can take advantage of the priority seating benefit. ESPNZone MVP Club – membership in the MVP Club does not offer any discounts on food.
