Author’s Note:
I’m back from two weeks of camping adventure with my three Scouts. When we were last together, runDisney had botched another event registration, fans were waiting to see if the Oogie Boogie Bash ticket sale went any better, and everyone was looking forward to the opening of Din Tai Fung and the early return of the Haunted Mansion Holiday. Now that I’ve returned from the Frontierland that is the woods of Northern Arizona, I’m catching up myself as I write this update.
On deck this week are Disney’s registration redemption; a possible strike by Disneyland cast members on the horizon; a Genie makeover; and new limited-time perks for Magic Key holders and Disney Vacation Club members.
Registration redemption
It looks like the ticketing for Oogie Boogie Bash went well last week, and even better, the event did NOT sell out on the first day of sales to the general public. In fact, it took 9 days after public sales began for the entire event to sell out, though of course the most popular nights sold out first. Hats off to whomever was able to make the upgrades needed to keep the servers stable throughout the sale.
I suspect the longer availability is due entirely to Disney’s efforts to crack down on ticket resellers, and not at all an indication of waning interest in the after-hours event. It seems it just took a series of high-profile punishments for Disney to get the message across that they’re not kidding. At press time, there were no tickets for Oogie Boogie Bash available for sale on eBay, but that’s likely because Disney has demonstrated that they can work with the site to obtain the identity of resellers, void their tickets and revoke their Magic Key passes where applicable.
Sellers seem less concerned about listing their tickets via StubHub, where at press time there were more than 600 tickets available for the event, some listed at more than $900 each. Still, if Disney is able to identify the sellers of these tickets, they can be revoked. I’d also be extremely cautious about buying resale tickets from Facebook Marketplace or anywhere other than a trusted friend or family member.
Of course, if you’re willing to spend $900 per person to attend Oogie Boogie Bash, why not go all-in and book an Oogie Boogie Bash VIP Tour directly through Disney. You and up to 7 additional people receive admission to Oogie Boogie Bash, a VIP tour guide for 8 hours, priority admission to Villains Grove and reserved viewing for the parade, plus a food and beverage credit and exclusive souvenirs. Call (714) 300-7710 for pricing and availability.
The rescheduled registration for the 2025 Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend went much smoother than the first time around, with one reader remarking, “this was the easiest registration day I’ve ever experienced with runDisney.” Still, it appears that all events are sold out with the exception of the Disneyland Half Marathon event. However, if you missed registration for a different event, you can still sign up to run through an approved runDisney charity partner.
Disney has not yet published a list of charities offering bibs for the 2025 events, but you can find a list on the Adventures of a Disney Dad blog. Each charity will have their own fundraising minimums and requirements, so check out your options and hopefully you find a charity that speaks to your heart and has a bib available for the event you want to run.
Disneyland unions call for strike authorization; plan protest on anniversary
14,000 Disneyland cast members represented by four major unions are set to take the next step in a labor dispute with the Anaheim resort. Covered workers will vote on July 19 whether to authorize an unfair labor practice strike against the Disneyland Resort. The unions also plan to hold a demonstration on Disneyland’s 69th anniversary, just two days before the vote.
Dear Disney Cast Member,
— DisneyWorkersRising (@disneyrising24) July 9, 2024
Nothing happened yesterday at bargaining. Absolutely nothing.
So how can we get the contract we deserve without Disney’s cooperation? pic.twitter.com/EDyXeIUSdI
Calling themselves Disney Workers Rising, representatives of the unions have been using social media to keep their members and the public informed about the negotiations. Talks began in April, but the first of the contracts expired in June with no resolution. The unions made what they called a “strategic decision” not to extend the contracts. The remaining contracts are set to expire in September, 2024.
The group will hold webinars later this week to explain the details of the strike vote to cast member, and to urge members to vote to authorize the unfair labor practice strike action. They allege Disney has unfairly disciplined more than 500 cast members for wearing union buttons or participating in union activities, claims which the National Labor Relations Board is now investigating.
The group is also asking cast members and community members to show up on the afternoon of July 17 for a protest outside the Disneyland Resort. The unions have previously held actions where they’ve handed out the Mickey fist buttons to guests to wear showing their supprt of cast members, and distributed balloons to show that Disney is full of hot air.
If the strike is authorized next week, it will be the first time Disneyland workers have struck the resort since 1984.
Genie gets a makeover
Fortunately Alan Dalinka was on duty when Disney announced an update to the Disney Genie+ system at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World. The changes for the California resort are entirely in the nomenclature but they’re much more involved for the Florida resort and now include the ability to pre-select attractions in advance of arrival at Walt Disney World. I’ll refer you to Alan’s excellent recap on the changes on that coast, should you be planning a visit to sunny Florida in the near future.
As for California, it’s pretty simple. Starting July 24, Disney Genie+ will become Lightning Lane Multi Pass, and Individual Lightning Lane will be renamed Lighning Lane Single Pass. That’s it. Everything else stays the same for Disneyland Resort visitors. As noted in the Disney Parks Blog, “the way guests purchase, select and redeem Lightning Lane passes at Disneyland Resort will remain the same. ”
This means you still can’t use the app to select Lightning Lane Multi Pass attractions in advance, you can’t purchase Lightning Lane Single Pass before entering the theme park, and Magic Key holders can’t purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass before their visit. It’s worth noting that if you already purchased Disney Genie+ service as part of a ticket package and are visiting after July 24, you don’t need to do anything. The service will work exactly as before, just with new names on the app.
Genie isn’t going away entirely. The free portion of the Disney Genie service, which can help plan an itinerary for you based on your specific interests, will still be available through the Disneyland app.

We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it’s best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.
Current Discounts and Promotions
Disneyland prices as of October 11, 2023.
Note: MousePlanet does not edit past Updates to reflect price increases; for up-to-date prices, check the most recent Disneyland Resort Update. Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!
This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don’t get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.

3-Day Disneyland Ticket Offer – June 10 – September 26, 2024
Visit the Disneyland Resort theme parks three weekdays between June 10 and September 26, 2024 for as little as $149 for ages 3-9, or $249 for ages 10 and older using a new discounted ticket which goes on sale May 29, 2024. That represents a savings of up to $219 off the regular price of a three-day, one-park-per-day ticket for children ages 3-9. The adult offer is a $141 discount, and is the same price than the summer 2023 deal.
You can also choose between a ticket good Monday through Thursday OR a slightly more expensive ticket good any day of the week. There are also options to add park hopping and Disney Genie+ service to your ticket at the time of purchase.
This new offer differs from past discouts discounts, so be sure to pay close attention to details before you purchase.
The 3-Day Disneyland Ticket Offer is a 3-day, 1-park-per-day ticket that offers admission to either Disneyland or Disney California Adventure:
- The weekday ticket – starting at $149 for ages 3-9; $249 for ages 10 and older. Three weekdays (Mondays through Thursdays only) between June 10 and September 26, 2024
- The any day ticket – starting at $199 for ages 3-9; $299, for ages 10 and older. Three days (any day of the week, including weekends) between June 10 and September 26, 2024
You can use every day of the 3-Day Disneyland Ticket at the same theme park, or visit different parks on different days, but you can’t use it to enter both parks on the same day unless you add the park-hopper option ($70 per ticket)
There is no “fuse” on this ticket, which means that you can use the first admission on June 10 and wait until September 26 to use the remaining admission. However, remember that you must make a theme park reservation for each day that you want to use the ticket. Disney also warns that reservations for this category of ticket are not guaranteed for any particular dates, and that a date may sell out in this ticket category though other ticket types have reservations of available. It is probably best to purchase early and make reservations as soon as they open for your desired travel dates. Each day of use constitutes one full day of use.
Tickets expire on September 26, 2024, and have no holiday blackouts. That means that you can visit on the 4th of July holiday using a weekday ticket, assuming reservations are available.
May purchase up to 15 tickets per eligible person per day. Tickets are nonrefundable, may not be sold or transferred for commercial use and exclude activities/events separately priced. Offer may not be combined with other ticket discounts or promotions. Subject to restrictions and change or cancellation without notice.
Visit Get Away Today starting May 29, 2024, to take advantage of this ticket offer! Book at Get Away Today or call 1-855-GET-AWAY, and be sure to mention you saw them on MousePlanet. PLUS – if you purchased the Adults at Kids’ Prices deal from Get Away Today last week and this offer is a better deal for you, Get Away Today will of course honor the new ticket for you just as soon as it’s available! Just reach out to Get Away Today on or after May 29 to receive the price adjustment.
