Disneyland celebrates anniversary Wednesday
Wednesday marks 69 years since Disneyland opened in Anaheim, and the resort seems to be planning a low-key celebration this year. A Birthday Celebration Cavalcade is scheduled for 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, with both the Disneyland Band and the Dapper Dans appearing on Main Street at the same time. In recent years, the birthday moment also featured a replay of Walt Disney’s dedication speech, and appearances by dozens of Disney characters. The Town Square area in front of the Main Street train station will likely provide the best viewing of whatever Disneyland has planned this year.
Information distributed to Disneyland employees indicates the company has a larger 70th anniversary party in the works for 2025. Of course, the park’s next major milestone will be in 2030, when the Resort celebrates its 75th anniversary, and hopefully a number of the new lands and attractions promised by the Disneyland Forward initiative will be ready to enjoy.
MousePlanet also celebrates our 24th anniversary this July 17, and we thank all of our readers for your support over the past two decades! We also want to thank our sponsors at Get Away Today for helping us bring you Disney news and views every week.
Convention center schedule and important reservation details for D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event
The full schedule of panels, presentations and “activations” that will take place at the Anaheim Convention Center during D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event was released last week, along with details of how fans can request access to the most popular events. This is the only week you can request panel reservations through the Reservation Random Selection Process, so be sure to keep reading for details and deadlines.
Disney says there will be more than 55 panels and presentations, held on five stages over the three days. View the schedule here. With the largest theater venue moved off-site to the Honda Center, Disney will devote even more convention center space to pavillions from a variety of Disney divisions and brand partners.
With so much demand for some of these panels and presentations, Disney is using their Reservation Random Selection Process to allocate space to interested visitors. Starting at Noon (Pacific) today (July 15), attendees can submit their requests for their top picks in three categories: Stage Presentations, Talent Central and Show Floor Experiences, using a form available on the D23 website. Disney posted full instructions online, which we recomend reviewing before you make selections.
You can submit up to four requests in each of the three categories, and put them in order from most- to least-important. You can also indicate how many, if any, guests you want to bring to the each experience. This is important if you are attending with minor children, as only adults 18-years and older can submit an entry through the RSP process.
The deadline to submit your choices is Noon (Pacific) on Friday, July 19. However, if you submit your entry earlier and change your mind about something, you can return to the form at any time before the deadline to make changes.
Disney’s computers will make their random selections next week, and will notify attendees starting August 2 to confirm which panel(s), presentation(s) and experience(s) they were selected for. If you didn’t get everything you were hoping for, there will be standby lines for a number of the events.
One final reminder, this reservation system is only for events being held at the Anaheim Convention Center. Events at the Honda Center are seperately tickets (and now sold out), and there will be no standby line for those events. However, Disney has confirmed they will simulcast the 2024 Disney Legends Award Ceremony – Live from the Honda Center and hosted by Ryan Seacrest on Sunday evening. If you didn’t get a ticket to that event, you can stay at the Anaheim Convention Center and watch it from the Premiere Stage at 5:00 p.m..
Unions to hold strike authorization vote and protest this week
As we shared last week, Disneyland cast members represented by four major unions [collectively known as the Master Service Council] will vote whether to take the next step in a labor dispute with the Anaheim resort. Covered workers will vote on July 19 whether to authorize an unfair labor practice strike against the Disneyland Resort. The unions allege Disney has unfairly disciplined more than 500 cast members for wearing union buttons or participating in union activities, claims which the National Labor Relations Board is now investigating.
In response to news of the strike vote, Disney released a statement saying,
“The Master Services Council has scheduled a strike authorization vote for July 19, 2024. A strike authorization is not unusual as part of the negotiations process and does not indicate a strike is imminent or underway. Disneyland Resort remains open and ready to welcome guests.”
Calling themselves Disney Workers Rising, representatives of the unions have been using social media to keep their members and the public informed about the negotiations. Talks began in April, but the first of the contracts expired in June with no resolution. The unions made what they called a “strategic decision” not to extend the contracts.
Nearly 14,000 Disney cast members are represented by the Master Service Council, but union representatives said only about 9,500 workers are eligible to participate in the strike vote this week, as the remaining workers are still covered by an unexpired contract. The remaining contracts are set to expire in September, 2024.
During a pair of webinars for cast members last week, organizers answered questions about a possible strike, and encouraged workers to show their solidarity as they continue to pressure Disney for contract concessions. Issues include the length of the contract, higher wages for more senior employees, protection for current premiums paid to certain workers with specialized training, and an overhaul of the attendace policy.
Possibly in acnowledgement of Disney’s comments, a union representative told cast members “the threat of a strike is more powerful than the strike itself,” but also said that “strikes are not something we’re going to bluff.”
Union organizers have also asked cast members and community members to show up on the afternoon of July 17 – Disneyland’s anniversary – for a protest outside the Disneyland Resort. The unions have previously held actions where they’ve handed out the Mickey fist buttons to guests to wear to show their support of cast members, and distributed balloons to show that Disney is full of hot air.
The next negotiation session between Disney and the unions is on July 21, 2024.
CHOC Walk steps off Sunday
The 2024 CHOC Walk in the Park is this Sunday, July 21 at the Disneyland Resort. The early-morning event is one of the largest fundraising events for Children’s Hospital Orange County, and draws thousands of participants to the Anaheim parks. CHOC Walkers each raise at least $125 for the local charity, and embark on a 5K walk through Disneyland, Disney California Adventure and the Downtown Disney District. Characters are a highlight of the course, with unique photo-only opportunities throughout both parks.
The 2024 event kicks off with an opening moment on Main Street, U.S.A. at 5:45 a.m., though walkers are encouraged to arrive as early as 4:00 a.m. when the Mickey and Friends parking structure opens for the day. Complimentary parking is offered to CHOC Walk participants who show their event wristband or pre-arrival confirmation email at the toll plaza.
In past years Disney offered discounted tickets for purchase on the day of the walk, but that has not been the case since the pandemic. However, walkers who raise at least $350 by the fundraising deadline of Friday, July 19 receive a one-day Disneyland Resort park-hopper ticket valid only on July 21. We expect Disneyland and Disney California Adventure will be busy after the walk on Sunday, as sucessful fundraisers celebrate their efforts.
Be sure to read the event information page on the CHOC Walk website if you are participating this weekend so you don’t miss out on any special offers or discounts available to those who show their event wristband.

This and That
…I don’t believe for a moment that Disneyland has run out of ideas for new popcorn buckets, but now it seems the ice cream locations want a little bit of the hype. A new Mickey’s Ice Cream Truck will be released this Tuesday, July 16 at Gibson Girl in Disneyland and Clarabelle’s in California Adventure. Based on a video shared by Disneyland, the bucket definitely rolls, but we can’t tell if it’s a pull-back toy like the Pizza Planet truck. The ice cream cone in the top of the truck lifts out to reveal that it’s really a spoon. No pricing or menu options were provided.
Clarabelle’s opens at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, while Gibson Girl opens at Noon. Both locations offer mobile order, so definitely check the Disneyland app first thing in the morning if you hope to “scoop” these up this week.

We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it’s best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.
Current Discounts and Promotions
Disneyland prices as of October 11, 2023.
Note: MousePlanet does not edit past Updates to reflect price increases; for up-to-date prices, check the most recent Disneyland Resort Update. Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!
This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don’t get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.

3-Day Disneyland Ticket Offer – June 10 – September 26, 2024
Visit the Disneyland Resort theme parks three weekdays between June 10 and September 26, 2024 for as little as $149 for ages 3-9, or $249 for ages 10 and older using a new discounted ticket which goes on sale May 29, 2024. That represents a savings of up to $219 off the regular price of a three-day, one-park-per-day ticket for children ages 3-9. The adult offer is a $141 discount, and is the same price than the summer 2023 deal.
You can also choose between a ticket good Monday through Thursday OR a slightly more expensive ticket good any day of the week. There are also options to add park hopping and Disney Genie+ service to your ticket at the time of purchase.
This new offer differs from past discouts discounts, so be sure to pay close attention to details before you purchase.
The 3-Day Disneyland Ticket Offer is a 3-day, 1-park-per-day ticket that offers admission to either Disneyland or Disney California Adventure:
- The weekday ticket – starting at $149 for ages 3-9; $249 for ages 10 and older. Three weekdays (Mondays through Thursdays only) between June 10 and September 26, 2024
- The any day ticket – starting at $199 for ages 3-9; $299, for ages 10 and older. Three days (any day of the week, including weekends) between June 10 and September 26, 2024
You can use every day of the 3-Day Disneyland Ticket at the same theme park, or visit different parks on different days, but you can’t use it to enter both parks on the same day unless you add the park-hopper option ($70 per ticket)
There is no “fuse” on this ticket, which means that you can use the first admission on June 10 and wait until September 26 to use the remaining admission. However, remember that you must make a theme park reservation for each day that you want to use the ticket. Disney also warns that reservations for this category of ticket are not guaranteed for any particular dates, and that a date may sell out in this ticket category though other ticket types have reservations of available. It is probably best to purchase early and make reservations as soon as they open for your desired travel dates. Each day of use constitutes one full day of use.
Tickets expire on September 26, 2024, and have no holiday blackouts. That means that you can visit on the 4th of July holiday using a weekday ticket, assuming reservations are available.
May purchase up to 15 tickets per eligible person per day. Tickets are nonrefundable, may not be sold or transferred for commercial use and exclude activities/events separately priced. Offer may not be combined with other ticket discounts or promotions. Subject to restrictions and change or cancellation without notice.
Visit Get Away Today starting May 29, 2024, to take advantage of this ticket offer! Book at Get Away Today or call 1-855-GET-AWAY, and be sure to mention you saw them on MousePlanet. PLUS – if you purchased the Adults at Kids’ Prices deal from Get Away Today last week and this offer is a better deal for you, Get Away Today will of course honor the new ticket for you just as soon as it’s available! Just reach out to Get Away Today on or after May 29 to receive the price adjustment.
