Disneyland celebrates 63 years this week
Disneyland commemorates 63 years this Tuesday with a character pre-parade ahead of the 3:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. performances of the Pixar Play Parade.
Construction updates
Beyond Star Wars Galaxy's Edge and the new Cleo parking structure, there are a few construction projects in the works at the Disneyland Resort, with more planned to begin as the summer crowds fade away after Labor Day.
Work continues on Pixar Pier, with Bing Bong's Sweet Stuff being the next location scheduled to open. As noted in an earlier Update, the miniature Zurg figure was installed next to the Poultry Palace in Pixar Pier. Unfortunately, the little statue is usually surrounded by parked strollers, making for an awkward photo opportunity. Worse, with no barrier to protect Zurg from collisions, the paint on the figure is already scraped and peeling.

The trend of social media-ready Disney walls carried to Pixar Pier, where the walls surrounding the future Inside Out attraction double as photo backdrops.

Now that the Pixar Pier publicity push is mostly over, Disney has resurfaced the World of Color show platform—which was kept underwater and out of sight during the media event—and surrounded it with blue tarpauline as engineers resume the show's extended refurbishment.

Over at Disneyland, the Enchanted Tiki Room is scheduled to close for refurbishment August 5, but work has already begun on a pair of new wheelchair-accessible ramps that will replace the attraction's aging lift platform.

In the Downtown Disney Stitch parking lot, workers continue to construct and decorate work walls that will eventually block off the west end of Downtown Disney, as those buildings are demolished to make way for Disney's fourth resort hotel.

D23 heads to Comic-Con
If you're heading to San Diego Comic-Con next weekend, look for two different panels presented by D23: The Official Disney Fan Club.
On Friday, July 20, D23 presents “Celebrating 90 Years of Mickey Mouse with D23: The Official Disney Fan Club.” The panel includes Bret Ivan (the official voice of Mickey Mouse), along with Walt Disney Archives Director Becky Cline and Master Disney Animator Mark Henn. This panel runs from 4:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. in room 6A.
On Saturday, July 21, celebrate 25 Years of Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas at a panel discussion featuring director Henry Selick, art director Kelly Asbury, editor Edie Ichioka, and animator Anthony Scott. This presentation runs from 7:45 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. in room 6BCF.
Together We Rise at Disneyland
As a foster and adoptive parent, the Southern California charity Together We Rise holds a very special place in my heart. Once each fall, the group hosts Disney Days to reunite siblings for a magical day at Disneyland. The reality of foster care is that there are very few foster homes able to accept sibling sets, especially groups of three or more, and so children are frequently separated from their brothers and sisters when placed in foster homes. Disney Days is a chance for these children to spend a day just being kids with their siblings at the Happiest Place on Earth.
Together We Rise has put out the call for volunteers to help make the 2018 Disney Days possible. Volunteers are needed to help lead groups of kids, coordinate meals and snacks, help with transportation logistics, and serve as videographers and photographers to capture the day.
The 2018 event is Saturday and Sunday, September 22 and 23. Volunteer applications are due by July 27, and all volunteers must be at least 18 years old. Visit the organization's website to apply. If you can't volunteer to attend the event in person, Together We Rise gratefully accepts donations to help make the day extra-special for these sibling groups—visit their website for more information.

- D23 Expo – August 23–25, 2019. Tickets go on sale August 23, 2018 via the event website.
We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

Current Discounts & Promotions
Disneyland prices as of February 11, 2018.
Note: MousePlanet does not edit past Updates to reflect price increases; for up-to-date prices, check the most recent Disneyland Resort Update. Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!
This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don't get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.

Discounts for:
Everyone |
Purchase with Purchase offers – Disneyland Resort shops frequently offer a reduced–price souvenir (often a tote bag, watch, or blanket) with a qualifying minimum purchase. These are offered at Disney-operated stores only, and selection may vary by location. Disney usually allows customers to purchase more than one of the offers in a qualifying transaction, so if you spend $40 or more you can buy both items currently available if you wish. If you're a passholder, the minimum purchase is calculated after your discount, and your discount does not apply to the promotional item. Character Dining Vouchers – discounted character dining vouchers are available for purchase online, in advance of your trip, through Get Away Travel. |
