“a bug's land” to close September 4
Tucked at the end of a Disney Parks Blog post last Wednesday was news that the last day to visit “a bug's land” in Disney California Adventure is Tuesday, September 4, 2018. The area will close the following day to make room for a new Super Hero-themed land anchored by Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout!, and set to open sometime in 2020.

Disney has already released concept art showing how the Flik's Flyers ride will be rethemed to Inside Out and relocated to Pixar Pier. The new Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind will open in 2019, along with Jessie's Critter Carousel, a rethemed version of King Triton's Carousel.
Disney has not announced plans to relocate or repurpose the other “a bug's land” rides, which include Tuck and Roll's Drive 'em Buggies, Heimlich's Chew Chew Train, and Francis' Ladybug Boogie. The “It’s Tough to Be a Bug” theater closed earlier this year for preliminary work on the new land.

Bing Bong's Sweet Stuff opens in Pixar Pier
A month after Pixar Pier opened to the public, the area's new snack shop quietly debuted this weekend. Bing Bong's Sweet Stuff replaced the former Sideshow Shirts store, and now offers a variety of Pixar-themed sweets, treats, drinks and trinkets.
One counter offers Memory Refreshers, frozen concoctions with flavors (blueberry, lemon, watermelon, grape and cinnamon) to match the emotions from Inside Out. . A 16-ounce cup is $5.99, or you can get a specialty drink with names like Rainbow Unicorn, Sunshine in a Cup, and Slow Burn for an extra 50c. These drinks combine a mix of flavors with a variety of imaginative toppings, and the resulting picture-perfect beverages seem designed to inspire social media sharing.

An adjacent chilled case is filled with cake pops, candy apples and other treats in Pixar motifs. Displays inside the store offer a range of packaged candy and treats, some with the familiar Goofy’s Candy Company logo, and some in new packaging which was designed for Pixar Pier.

Other displays around the store are stuffed with merchandise from most of the Pixar film library, including a nice assortment of apparel and toys from Inside Out.

Missing from the store is the sculpture of Bing Bong, which had been featured so prominently in concept art for the new location. The focal display is instead surrounded by a fabric curtain of sorts, on which is re-created Riley's cartoon drawing of her part-cat, part-elephant, part-dolphin imaginary friend. Big Bong's fabricated nose pokes out from inside the curtain, but the rest of the figure is under wraps for now.

Cleo parking structure progress; Downtown Disney parking update
Disneyland's new Cleo parking structure is rising on the site of the former Pinocchio parking lot, and Disney says the site will mark an important milestone later this summer when the first concrete is poured on the ground level of the structure. The 6,500-space structure is expected to open by next summer.

It looks like the Downtown Disney parking lot will also remain open until further notice, and Disney had no updates about the pending demolition of the now-closed AMC Theater, Rainforest Cafe, and EZPN Zone buildings.
Cast appreciation week
As Disneyland celebrated 63 years last week, the Resort also hosted cast appreciation week. This annual celebration offers Disneyland Resort cast members to participate in activities around the Resort. This year cast members participated in the traditional canoe race around Tom Sawyer Island, and could invite family and friends to join them in a early-morning 5K through Disneyland.

…Disney will announce dates and details of the 2018 holiday season this Tuesday, July 24. Look for an added week of the Festival of Holidays promotion at Disney California Adventure. It appears the Jingle Cruise will not return to Disneyland for 2018, and it seems unlikely that World of Color will return in time for the Season of Light version to show this year.
…The Pixar Shorts Film Festival has reopened in the Sunset Showcase Theater in Disney California Adventure. The three short films now in rotation include Bao, La Luna and Sanjay's Super Team. The festival runs through the end of Pixar Fest on September 3, 2018.

…Disney debuted its latest perfect-for-Instagram wall this week, with a new Up-inspired design on the side of Stage 12 in the Hollywood Land area of Disney California Adventure. The spot is next to the Buzz Lightyear wall installed earlier this year. Photopass photographers are on hand to snap your photo, which Disney certainly hopes you will post to every social media account you have.

Resort Events
Check here to see if a large convention, competition, or park event might fall during your next trip to the Disneyland Resort. If you know of any in-park events, official or unofficial, that should be listed here, please send us an e-mail (link).

- Gay Days at Disneyland (unofficial event) – October 5–7. More information on the event website.

2019
- D23 Expo – August 23–25, 2019. Tickets go on sale August 23, 2018 via the event website.
We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

Current Discounts & Promotions
Disneyland prices as of February 11, 2018.
Note: MousePlanet does not edit past Updates to reflect price increases; for up-to-date prices, check the most recent Disneyland Resort Update. Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!
This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don't get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.

Purchase with Purchase offers – Disneyland Resort shops frequently offer a reduced–price souvenir (often a tote bag, watch, or blanket) with a qualifying minimum purchase. These are offered at Disney-operated stores only, and selection may vary by location. Disney usually allows customers to purchase more than one of the offers in a qualifying transaction, so if you spend $40 or more you can buy both items currently available if you wish. If you're a passholder, the minimum purchase is calculated after your discount, and your discount does not apply to the promotional item.
