Disneyland Resort Update for July 4–10, 2022

Subs about to set sail again at Disneyland
Get ready to find Nemo at Disneyland, as the popular submarine attraction finally has a reopening date. Disney announced last week that Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage will reopen on July 25, more than two years after the ride last carried passengers through the lagoon.
The attraction underwent an extensive refurbishment after Disneyland reopened last year, and included fresh paint and the addition of more coral, kelp and seaweed accent. Imagineers upgraded the lighting and special effects throughout the ride.

The ride also features a new character from Finding Dory, Hank the “septopus,” who sits atop a rock in the lagoon. Disney shared some photos and a video from the refurbishment, giving a look at the updates.

Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage opened at Disneyland in 2007 with a star-studded “blue carpet” event. Disney heavily promoted the updated Submarine Voyage attraction with a 13-city tour of the “Nemo Dream Mobile,” a submarine-shaped vehicle that brought a version of the Turtle Talk with Crush experience to cities across the western U.S. and Canada.

The original Submarine Voyage opened at Disneyland in 1959, and was updated in 1987 with a new yellow livery for the eight subs. The ride wasn't included in the 1998 New Tomorrowland project, and closed later that same year. The submarine lagoon sat empty for nearly 10 years before the sub returned with the Finding Nemo theme in 2007.
Tiana's Bayou Adventure opens in 2024
The Princess and the Frog retheme of the Splash Mountain attractions at Disneyland and the Magic Kingdom officially has a name and an opening season. Tiana's Bayou Adventure is slated to open in the California and Florida resorts in late 2024, following what is expected to be a lengthy renovation of the two attractions. Disney made the announcements and released concept art of the new attraction during a panel discussion at ESSENCE Fest in New Orleans.

As described by Disney:
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will take guests on a musical adventure inspired by the beloved story and characters from the fan-favorite film. Picking up where the film left off, guests will join Princess Tiana, Naveen and jazz-loving alligator Louis on an adventure through the bayou as they prepare to host a one-of-a-kind Mardi Gras celebration where everyone is welcome. Along the way, guests will encounter familiar faces, make new friends and travel through the bayou to original music inspired by songs from the film as they are brought into the next chapter of Tiana’s story.

Disney did not release any additional details about the overlay, or when Splash Mountain will close so that work can begin.

Early park entry and popular perks return for resort hotel guests
Vacationers who stay at one of the three Disneyland Resort Hotels later this summer will once more be able to enjoy several popular perks, which are being restored for the first time since the hotels reopened following the pandemic closures.
Starting August 8, hotel guests can enter Disneyland or Disney California Adventure 30 minutes before scheduled park opening date. Theme park reservations are required, and you can only access early park entry at the park for which you hold the reservation. Disney says “select attractions, dining and shopping” will be open.
Since it's been a while since this benefit has been offered, we want to remind readers that every person in your party must be listed on your hotel reservation and must have their own key card to gain access to early entry, including children. You can't bring unregistered friends and family members into the parks with you. Each person must also have a valid theme park tickets and park reservation.
August 8 also marks the date that package delivery returns to the hotels. This service lets you send your purchases from the theme parks to your hotel room. Items are delivered the next day, so plan ahead—you can't use the service the day before you check out.

Coming soon will be an update to the priority dining reservations offered to Disneyland Resort Hotel guests. Disney calls this Preferred Dine Access, and says guests will have “preferred access to a limited number of reservations at select hotel table service restaurants during the dates of your hotel stay.” This perk won't help you book a table at the Blue Bayou, but may give you an edge if Goofy's Kitchen is booked solid during your trip. Disney said to stay tuned for additional details when the program formally rolls out.
While these new perks don't start for another month, Disney this weekend launched a series of summer pool parties with character appearances. The 30-minute parties will take place at each of the three hotels every day until August 31.
Oogie Boogie Bash SOLD OUT
Carthay Circle Theater serves as a projection surface during Oogie Boogie Bash, with animated decorations taking over the structure at intervals. MousePlanet file photo.
When we began writing this Update Sunday evening, tickets for Oogie Boogie Bash at Disney California Adventure were sold out for all but two of the 23 event dates, with just opening night and the first Thursday event available. Two hours later, and less than a week after tickets went on sale, the event is now sold out. This is the quickest that Disney's after-hours Halloween event has sold out, and a clear sign that the $10–$15 price increase from 2021 did nothing to deter demand for these tickets.
The event website says that tickets are no longer available online. In 2019, it was still possible for some visitors to purchase tickets to sold-out event nights in limited circumstances, but Disney didn't set aside tickets for Disneyland Resort hotel guests or same-day sales in 2021. If you have a hotel reservation and were hoping to add Oogie Boogie Bash tickets, it might be worth checking with your hotel to see what the 2022 policy looks like.
Save up to 25% on late summer hotel stays
The three Disneyland Resort Hotels are offering discounts on stays on select dates in August and September, making this a good time to plan a late summer vacation, or catch an early look at Halloween Time.
The 25% discount offer is available for select stays of 4-nights or longer at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa or the Disneyland Hotel from August 7 through September 29, 2022.
If you don't want to stay quite that long, you can save 10-20% on shorter trips most Sunday through Thursday nights from August 7 through September 29, 2022.
In all cases, you must book through September 22, 2022, and complete your travel by September 30, 2022. These dates cover the end of summer and the start of Halloween Time, and stays would be eligible for the early park entry perk which resumes August 8.
You can book through the Disneyland website, and of course we recommend contacting MousePlanet sponsor Get Away Today online or by calling 1-855-GET-AWAY.

2022
2022
- Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort – September 2 to October 31
- Oogie Boogie Bash at Disney California Adventure – select nights September 6 to October 31. This event is sold out.
- D23 Member-exclusive Oogie Boogie Bash at Disney California Adventure – Saturday, September 10. This event is sold out.
- 2022 D23 Expo – September 9–11 at the Anaheim Convention Center.
- Gay Days (unofficial event) – September 16–18. More information at the event website.
We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

Current Discounts and Promotions
Disneyland prices as of October 25, 2021.
Note: MousePlanet does not edit past Updates to reflect price increases; for up-to-date prices, check the most recent Disneyland Resort Update. Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!
This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don't get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.

California Resident Ticket Offer
The California Resident Ticket is a 3-day, 1-park-per-day ticket that offers residents of California admission to either Disneyland or Disney California Adventure:
- The weekday ticket – starting at $249, three weekdays (Mondays through Thursdays only) between June 13 and September 15, 2022
- The any day ticket – starting at $299, three days (any day of the week, including weekends) between June 13 and September 15, 2022
You can use every day of the California resident ticket at the same theme park, or visit different parks on different days, but you can't use it to enter both parks on the same day.
The weekday ticket is $249 for ages 3 and up, this ticket is valid only Mondays through Thursday, and weekends are not included. The any day ticket costs $50 more, starting at $299 for ages 3 and up, but adds Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to your list of days.
For an additional $60, you can also upgrade the ticket to a park-hopper, which allows entry to both parks each day.
You can also add the paid Disney Genie+ service to your California resident ticket. Although you can upgrade all three days in advance for $20 per day (for a total of $60 for the three days), our recommendation is to pay for the service on the first day, after you enter the theme park. This will let you make sure the service provides a value for you, to decide whether you want to spend the extra money for your remaining days.
Tickets are available through the Disneyland website, or through MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.
There is no “fuse” on this ticket, which means that you can use the first admission on June 13 and wait until September 15 to use the remaining admission. However, remember that you must make a theme park reservation for each day that you want to use the ticket. Disney also warns that ticket sales may be paused or ended at any time, so it's probably best to purchase early so you're ready to make reservations as soon as they open for your desired travel dates.
Tickets expire on September 15, 2022, and have no holiday blackouts. This does mean that you could visit on the 4th of July with the weekday ticket assuming reservations are available.
Disney states that proof of residency is required for purchase and admission, and each resident can purchase up to five tickets per day.
