Disney Gallery hosts Haunted Mansion exhibit
Disneyland's Haunted Mansion attraction celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, and the Disney Gallery has opened a new exhibit devoted to the iconic ride. This is well worth a visit for any fan of the Mansion, especially to read the detailed plaques that accompany the sculptures and concept art of the exhibit.

Tickets are still available for two The Haunted Mansion: Celebrating 50 Years of Retirement Unliving events scheduled for August 7–8 and August 8–9, 2019. Tickets are $299 per person, with a purchase limit of one ticket per person, per event night. Each party begins with event sign-in on day 1, and a midnight-to-4:00 a.m. party on day 2.
This is primarily a merchandise special event, with over 200 collectible items—or “Estate Merchandise”—created for the event. The online catalog runs to six pages, and includes a special collection of items created for annual passholders. The extensive selection includes the usual assortment of shirts and pins with the event logo, but there are quite a few specialty items for discerning collectors.
Most of the limited edition items were offered to event guests using Disney's Random Selection Process (RSP), in which guests select the items they'd like to purchase, and Disney's system distributing the available quantity among the interested customers. However, Disney says the RSP has already closed for the event, so anyone registering for the event at this time can request remaining product starting July 15, 2019.
Never fear—event programming manager Michelle Harker says that many of these items will debut at the Haunted Mansion event, but are not necessarily exclusive to the event. “Should quantities of any of those items remain you can expect to find them in locations at both Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort following the event.” In fact, one item from the event catalog—the OtterBox phone case featuring Madame Leota—has already been released at the Disneyland Resort.
Passport and parking renewal options
It's been two months since the Disneyland Resort introduced the new Disney Flex Passport, and thus far feedback from MousePlanet readers who purchased the pass has been completely positive. The $599 pass has the same 15 blockout dates as the Disney Signature Pass that sells for $1,149, but requires passholders to make a reservation—subject to availability—up to 30 days in advance to use their pass on one of 229 “reservation only” dates. Reservation days include weekends, holidays and the entire summer. No reservation is needed to visit on a “good to go” date, which are mostly Monday through Thursday and off-peak dates.
While Disney does not disclose how many reservations are available for any given date, so far only one “reservation only” date (July 4) has reached capacity since the program began. Even then, only Disneyland was at capacity, and Flex Passport-holders could still use their pass to enter Disney California Adventure on the holiday.
With the Disney Flex Passport offering the same or better access as higher-priced passes, at the cost of having to plan most visits in advance, some current passholders who are due to renew their Deluxe and Signature passports are giving the Flex Passport a serious look. One drawback is that the Disney Flex Passport does not include parking, and the $25 per visit parking fee can add up quickly.
Disney has confirmed that passholders who are eligible to renew an annual passport that currently includes parking—either a Signature or Signature Plus pass that comes with the parking benefit or a legacy annual pass with the parking add-on—can opt for a Disney Flex Passport at the time of renewal and add parking for an additional $249. This brings the price of the Disney Flex Passport to $848; still much less than the $1,149 Signature Pass. This option is only available to passholders who currently have parking on their annual passport, and the benefit cannot be transferred to another passholder; you can't move the parking add-on from your pass and assign it to your spouse or child.
We also confirmed that passholders who opt for the Flex Passport with the parking add-on this renewal cycle can upgrade to the Deluxe passport and retain their parking benefit, or can upgrade to the Signature or Signature Plus passes (which include parking) if they decide the Flex Passport is not working for them. However, we were cautioned that upgrades are subject to availability, and Disney may stop selling other pass types at any time.
The Disney Flex Passport is eligible for the monthly payment plan offered to California residents, and includes dining and merchandise discounts. Passholders can also add MaxPass to the Flex Passport for an additional $100.
When I first wrote about the new pass, I said that had it been an option when I purchased passes for my husband and children earlier this year, I would have opted for the Disney Flex Passport over the Deluxe pass. I have a Signature pass, so parking isn't an issue in our case, and the $200 per pass savings is enough to cover a pass for my soon-to-be 3-year-old.
Disney gave me the opportunity to try out the Flex pass for my family, and I haven't encountered any problems reserving the date(s) and park(s) I wanted this summer. Granted, there are still relatively few Flex Passholders compared to other pass types, and this has been an unusually slow summer for the Disneyland Resort. A better test will come this Halloween and holiday season, as more and more passholders opt for the Flex Pass, and overall park attendance climbs.
If you are due to renew your pass soon and are willing to trade a measure of spontaneity for significant savings, take a look at the Flex passport. Based on my experience thus far, that's the pass I plan to pick for my family come renewal time.
Pixar parking puzzle; Downtown Disney lot closes
The new Pixar Pals parking structure opened a week ago, bringing 6,500 much-needed new parking spaces to the Disneyland Resort. The impact was immediately noticeable, and the resort sailed through the holiday week without having to send the dreaded “all parking is full at this time” message via Twitter.
I had the opportunity to park in the new structure over the holiday, and found myself perplexed by some of the design choices. I share my observations here so you can prepare for your own visit, and perhaps avoid some of the pitfalls.
The Pixar Pals structure is adjacent to the Mickey and Friends structure, and the two structures are connected at each level to allow cars to move from one to the other. The structure has a dedicated entrance from Magic Way, directly across from the parking entrance to Downtown Disney. We also learned that cars arriving at the Mickey and Friends toll plaza—particularly those in the leftmost lanes—can be directed to park in the Pixar Pals structure. If you want the best chance of avoiding this, stick to the rightmost lanes when entering the Mickey and Friends toll plaza.
The ground floor of the Pixar Pals structure houses the security checkpoints and tram loading area that serves both parking structures. However, the new structure does not have a bathroom, and visitors are directed to use the facilities on the ground floor of the Mickey and Friends structure.
While the Pixar Pals structure boasts five elevators compared to just two at Mickey and Friends, only three of them actually serve the tram loading area. The other two elevators go only as far as the second floor, and provide access to the pedestrian bridge under construction over Magic Way that will eventually connect the new structure to Downtown Disney.
It's the exit strategy from the new structure that was most surprising. The structure was built with entrance ramps, but no exit ramp. The default operation plan is for cars to exit via the Mickey and Friends structure, which means driving across the bridge, merging into Mickey and Friends traffic, and then driving around to the exit. This may not be too bad during an afternoon escape, but regular visitors know what a hassle the post-fireworks exit can be. On July 4th and New Year's Eve, what can already be a 45-minute wait to leave the structure now has the potential to be twice as bad with cars from two parking structures trying to use the same exit.
Cast members say that on busy days, managers can choose to use the Pixar Pals ramps as an exit, dropping traffic out onto Magic Way. We were surprised that this was not implemented much earlier into the 4th of July exit rush, but was used this past Sunday evening. We hope this is just a matter of getting the kinks worked out of the new system. Still, if you plan to leave with the crowd, you might consider avoiding the Pixar side of the structure.
Like the Mickey and Friends structure, the Pixar Pals structure is equipped with Park Assist lights to help identify open parking spots. The system was not in use on the Pixar Pals side during my visit, but seemed completely ineffective on the Mickey and Friends side. As I drove through that structure, I counted 18 Park Assist lights that incorrectly displayed green to indicate an empty spot where there was none.
As mentioned last week, crews are still working on the pedestrian bridge over Magic Way that connects the new structure to Downtown Disney. As a result, the Downtown Disney parking lot is now closed, and is not scheduled to reopen until possibly early September. Visitors to Downtown Disney are directed to park in the Downtown Disney District Simba lot—the entrance is south of the Paradise Pier Hotel on Disneyland Drive.
The Simba lot has the same parking rates as the Downtown Disney lot, with three hours free with a $20 minimum purchase and validation from any Downtown Disney location. Table service restaurants offer five hours complimentary parking with validation.
During construction, the Simba lot is also a designated taxi and ride-share pick-up and drop-off location, in addition to the drop-off lot on Harbor Boulevard.
Toon Town fight goes viral
A domestic dispute turned violent at Disneyland this weekend, and a video captured by an onlooker has gone viral. The four-minute video (which we are not including here due to graphic content and language), shows a fight that involved two men and four women, who had at least three children among them.
The video shows that a custodial cast member and several park visitors stepped in to try to diffuse the situation, and a costumed cast member and a Disney manager are seen using a phone and radio to make calls. An onlooker near the camera person can be heard calling 9-1-1 to report the incident and some parents are seen scooping up their children and leaving the area, while dozens more park-goers stood by to watch and film the brawl.
A Disney security officer is seen in the background of the video at about the 2:30 mark, but it took about four minutes after the video began for additional Disney security personnel and Anaheim Police Department to arrive and secure the scene, leaving visitors and viewers asking if park security was too slow to react.
In a written statement, Disneyland Resort spokesperson Liz Jaeger said, “Any type of violence is inexcusable and will not be tolerated. Those involved were immediately removed from the premises and turned over to the Anaheim Police Department.”
Monday morning, the Anaheim Police Department issued its own statement about the incident. There has been no further comment from either organization.
APD is aware of a video going viral of a fight inside @Disneyland on Saturday. We responded to investigate. All parties were from the same family and were uncooperative. A report was taken. There was no video at the time. Now that we have video, the investigation can continue

Come CHOC Walk with Team MousePlanetRegistration is now officially open for the 2019 CHOC Walk in the Park, to be held Sunday, August 11 at the Disneyland Resort. Team MousePlanet will return for our 12th consecutive walk to support Children's Hospital Orange County. Thanks to the efforts and generosity of our readers, Team MousePlanet has raised over $75,000 for CHOC since 2008. We invite MousePlanet readers, friends, and family members to join our team for the event. When you register for the event, you can opt to donate directly or fund-raise the registration fee.
Why Join Team MousePlanet? COMMUNITY! Walking with Team MousePlanet is a great way to spend a morning with MousePlanet staff and readers, all while raising money for a great cause. Stay after the walk and enjoy Disneyland with your fellow Disney fans. CONVENIENCE! If you register during Early registration and meet your fundraising goal, Team MousePlanet will handle check-in for you. No need to drive to check in the week before the walk to collect your wristband and T-shirt. You need only meet us in Downtown Disney the morning of the walk to collect your goodies, then head right into Disneyland to start the walk. If you prefer to have your shirt and wristband before the walk (some people like to personalize them), there is an option to have those items shipped to you. The deadline to join Team MousePlanet and meet the $85 fundraising requirement in order for us to handle check-in for walkers is Monday, August 5. We still welcome those who register after this date, but they must handle their own check-in. In addition to helping support an outstanding local charity, one of the benefits of participating in the CHOC Walk is the opportunity to purchase specially priced Disneyland tickets to use in the weeks after the walk. Walkers who meet the $85 fund-raising minimum can purchase a 1-Day 1-Park Disneyland Resort ticket for $67 (reg. $122 to 149), or a Disneyland Resort 1-Day Park Hopper ticket for $93 (reg. $172 to 199). This is a discount of up to $106 off the ticket booth price of these tickets. The tickets can ONLY be purchased by registered walkers in person at the Disneyland Resort on the day of the walk. You must present your CHOC Walk in the Park wristband to a Disneyland Resort Ticket Booth to purchase the discounted tickets. NEW FOR 2019: A maximum of one ticket may be purchased per wristband. The tickets are valid starting Sunday, August 11, 2019, and must be used by September 10, 2019. The tickets are not valid August 31 through September 3, 2019. The Consumer Products Safety Commission website says, “The “googly” plastic eyes on the toy can detach, posing a choking hazard to young children.” The 11-inch plush toy was a top seller that was hard to find before the recall.
We are voluntarily recalling the 11” Forky plush due to a manufacturing defect. We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

Current Discounts and Promotions
Disneyland prices as of January 6, 2019.
Note: MousePlanet does not edit past Updates to reflect price increases; for up-to-date prices, check the most recent Disneyland Resort Update. Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!
This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don't get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.

Purchase with purchase offers – Disneyland Resort shops frequently offer a reduced-price souvenir (often a tote bag, watch, or blanket) with a qualifying minimum purchase. These are offered at Disney-operated stores only, and selection may vary by location.
Disney usually allows customers to purchase more than one of the offers in a qualifying transaction, so if you spend $40 or more you can buy both items currently available if you wish. If you're a passholder, the minimum purchase is calculated after your discount, and your discount does not apply to the promotional item.
Character dining vouchers – Disneyland is no longer offering tickets or vouchers to be pre-purchased for Character Dining. You may still make reservations 60 days in advance with payment due at the restaurant.

Visit our Annual Passholders Blockout Dates page to see more dates. You can see future calendar schedules at Disneyland. As always, specifics are subject to change without notice (or occasionally, without us noticing) so when information conflicts between what is presented here and that presented by Disney, it is best to assume Disney's information is correct.
Visit the Park Hours section of our Disneyland Park guide for additional details about Magic Morning and Toontown Morning Madness, including available attractions. Entertainment schedule: Go directly to the Disneyland Resort schedule for this week at Disneyland.com here.
The Seasons calendar is published on the Disneyland website for the next eight to 11 months.
