Disneyland rolls out the Wi-Fi | Summer Blockout season | CHOC-tastic discount ticket promotion | This and that…
Disneyland rolls out the Wi-Fi
Following in the technological footsteps of Walt Disney World, the Disneyland Resort has finally rolled out Wi-Fi service in both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure, as well as the esplanade between the parks. This is great news for Disneyland visitors, but don't expect to be able to roam the parks while connected to Disney's network. For the moment, Wi-Fi is only available in specific areas in each park, as indicated by symbols on the guide maps available at the main entrance gates. The network is called “Disney Guest.”
Based on the maps distributed this past week, here's where to find Wi-Fi in the parks:
Disneyland
- Main Entrance Esplanade
- Main Street – Guest relations kiosk/wait time board
- Main Street – Partners statue/central hub
- Tomorrowland – outside Star Wars Launch Bay
- Fantasyland – between Matterhorn and Tomorrowland Terrace seating area
- Fantasyland – Fantasia Gardens, near Edelweiss Snacks
- Frontierland – Rancho del Zocalo seating area/Zocalo Park
- New Orleans Square – edge of Rivers of America, near raft docks
There is currently no Wi-Fi offered in Adventureland, Critter Country, or Mickey's Toontown
Surprisingly, there seem to be more hot spots offered in Disney California Adventure, which already had a few areas of unplanned Wi-Fi access thanks to the network at the nearby Grand Californian Hotel.
Disney California Adventure
- Main Entrance Esplanade
- Buena Vista Street – Guest relations kiosk/wait time board
- Grizzly Peak – Outside Soarin'
- Grizzly Peak – Near restrooms at border of Paradise Pier section
- Paradise Pier – Paradise Gardens seating area
- Paradise Pier – Cove Bar and adjacent boardwalk
- Pacific Wharf – outside Ghirardelli soda fountain
- Cars Land – Flo's V-8 Cafe north seating area
- Cars Land – Flo's V-8 Cafe south seating area
- Hollywood Land – between Backlot Stage and restrooms
There is currently no Wi-Fi offered in a bug's land, or the south end of Hollywood Land near the Guardians of the Galaxy ride.
This new Wi-Fi network debuts as Disney prepares to roll out Disney's MaxPass, a new digital offering announced in January. MaxPass bundles the existing PhotoPass product with a not-yet-released digital Fastpass tool in the Disneyland smartphone application.
MaxPass includes unlimited downloads of PhotoPass photos taken for each day that the entitlement is valid. It also allows visitors to collect and redeem Fastpass tickets using the app, instead of collecting paper Fastpass tickets.
Visitors can add Disney's MaxPass to their theme park tickets for $10 per ticket, per day. Users can choose to purchase the MaxPass for their entire length of stay, or for one or more days. Annual passholders will also be able to purchase MaxPass by the day, or add it to their pass for the year, though pricing has not yet been finalized.
The standard Fastpass system will still be available at no charge to visitors who do not purchase the MaxPass product.
Disney has not yet said when MaxPass will debut, and there are still details to be released. However, we see this new in-park Wi-Fi as a sign that MaxPass is almost ready for showtime.
Summer Blockout season is upon us
The summer blockout season begins this Friday for some passholders, so expect the next few days to be especially crowded as people get in their last visits before August.
This Monday through Thursday are the last four days that passholders with the Southern California Select Annual Passport can visit Disneyland or Disney California Adventure before their summer blockout season begins on Friday, June 9. This pass is valid again starting Monday, August 21.
The total blockout window for the Southern California Annual Passport does not begin until later this month, but these passholders only have three Sundays left before their 8-week hiatus begins. This pass is valid again starting Monday, August 21.
This is the time of year where Fridays and Saturdays are less crowded than Sundays, simply due to the blockout schedule. If you plan to visit over the next three Sundays, your best bet is to arrive as early as possible, and take advantage of Extra Magic Hours if you are entitled to them.
CHOC-tastic discount ticket promotion
We have the details of the 2017 CHOC-tastic discount ticket promotion for those who participate in the 2017 CHOC Walk on Sunday, August 27 at the Disneyland Resort.
In addition to helping support an outstanding local charity, one of the benefits of participating in the CHOC Walk is the opportunity to purchase discounted Disneyland tickets during the CHOC-tastic promotion. Walkers who meet the $85 fundraising minimum can purchase a 1-Day 1-Park Disneyland Resort ticket for $57 (regularly $91 to $124), or a Disneyland Resort 1-Day Park Hopper ticket for $86 (regularly $151 to $174).
The tickets can only be purchased by registered walkers in person at the Disneyland Resort on the day of the walk. You must present your CHOC Walk in the Park wristband to a Disneyland Resort Ticket Booth to purchase the discounted tickets. Each walker with a valid wristband can purchase up to five tickets, which represents a savings of up to $440.
The tickets are valid starting Sunday, August 27, 2017, and must be used by September 23, 2017. The tickets are not valid September 1 to 4; September 15, or September 20 to 22.
Join Team MousePlanet for the 2017 CHOC Walk in the ParkRegistration is now officially open for the 2017 CHOC Walk in the Park, to be held Sunday, August 27, 2017 at the Disneyland Resort. Thanks to the efforts and generosity of MousePlanet.com readers, staff and contributors, Team MousePlanet has raised over $62,000 for CHOC Children's since 2008. We invite all MousePlanet readers, friends, and family to join us at the 2017 walk, as we celebrate a decade of giving. The minimum fundraising commitment for all walkers (ages 3 and up) is $85. When you register for the event, you can opt to register as a Fundraising Bear or a Busy Bear:
Why Join Team MousePlanet? COMMUNITY! Walking with Team MousePlanet is a great way to spend a morning with MousePlanet staff and readers, all while raising money for a great cause. Stay after the walk and enjoy Disneyland with your fellow Disney fans. CONVENIENCE! If you register as a Fundraising Bear, Team MousePlanet will handle check-in for you. No need to drive to Orange the week before the walk to collect your wristband and T-shirt. You need only meet us in Downtown Disney the morning of the walk to collect your goodies, then head right into Disneyland to start the walk. The deadline to join Team MousePlanet and meet the $85 fundraising requirement in order for us to handle check-in for walkers is Friday, August 18. We still welcome those who register after this date, but they must handle their own check-in. Are you ready to CHOC Walk with Team MousePlanet? It's easy to sign up – just visit the CHOC Walk website. You can opt to join Team MousePlanet during the registration process. If you have any questions about the event, join the discussion on our MousePad forum. |

School Holidays
Notable school holidays that may impact park attendance. If you know of any other school holidays that should be listed here, please send us an e-mail (link).
2017
- Utah Education Association convention (UEA, a.k.a. “Utah Escapes to Anaheim”) – October 19–20. Expect large attendance levels October 19–22 as Utah students and families take advantage of a 4-day weekend created by their school's participation in a state education convention. Not all Utah schools or teachers close for or attend UEA, but the impact on the Resort is usually noticeable enough to mention.
- Nevada Day – October 28. Nevada schools will be closed on Friday, October 28 to observe Nevada Day, creating a three-day weekend.
We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.
Non-Disney Resort Events
Notable events at parks and attractions around Southern California. If you know of an event that should be listed here, please send us an e-mail (link).
Knott's Berry Farm
Legoland California
- Surfers' Cove at LEGOLAND Water Park – opens summer.
- Red, White and Boom – July 4.
- Brick-or-Treat – Saturdays in October.
- Holidays at Legoland – November 24, 2017 through January 1, 2018
- Kids' New Year's Eve – December 31.
Current Discounts & Promotions
Disneyland prices as of February 28, 2016.
Note: MousePlanet does not edit past Updates to reflect price increases; for up-to-date prices, check the most recent Disneyland Resort Update. Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!
This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don't get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency.

Discounts for:
Everyone |
Purchase with Purchase offers – Disneyland Resort shops frequently offer a reduced–price souvenir (often a tote bag, watch, or blanket) with a qualifying minimum purchase. These are offered at Disney-operated stores only, and selection may vary by location. Recently, Disney has begun allowing customers to purchase more than one of the offers in a qualifying transaction, so if you spend $40 or more you can buy both items currently available if you wish. If you're a passholder, the minimum purchase is calculated after your discount, and your discount does not apply to the promotional item. Current offers:
Customers can add a Snowman Mickey tote or Disneyland castle throw blanket to their qualifying purchase for $20. Photo by Adrienne Vincent-Phoenix. Landry's Select Club – members of the Landry's Select Club get priority seating at the Rainforest Cafe when available (which makes a huge difference on busy days). This club replaces the former Rainforest Cafe Safari Club, and runs on a point-based system that gives you a $25 gift certificate after you spend $250. Membership now costs $25, but comes with a $25 birthday reward. We recommend that you prepurchase your membership before your visit so you can take advantage of the priority seating benefit. ESPNZone MVP Club – membership in the MVP Club does not offer any discounts on food. However, once a member you can make an online reservation for your party up to three days in advance and will get a 25 percent increase in points purchased when playing games in the Sports Arena (and 40 bonus points at activation). You must register online and your membership card will then be mailed to you within two weeks. The card must then be activated at any ESPNZone by the person who signed up for the card and ID will be required (link). Character Dining Vouchers – discounted character dining vouchers are available for purchase online, in advance of your trip, through Get Away Travel. |

Southern California residents |
The 3-Day So Cal Resident 1-Park Per Day ticket offers residents of Southern California and Northern Baja California admission to either Disneyland or Disney California Adventure on one day, and then a second visit to either park on another day on or before May 25, 2017. You can use both days of this ticket at the same theme park, or visit one park one day and the other park on the second day, but you cannot use it to enter both parks on the same day. The ticket is $149 for ages 3 and up. You can also upgrade this ticket to a 3-Day Park Hopper, which allows entry to both parks each day, for an additional $40, a savings of up to $106 compared to the box office price of a three-day park-hopper ticket. If purchased in advance of arrival, the three-day tickets include one Magic Morning admission. This benefit does not come with tickets purchased at the theme park ticket booths, so make sure to order online and print at home before you arrive. If purchasing at a participating third party ticket outlet, double-check that their 3-day tickets come with this feature. There is no “fuse” on this ticket, which means you can use the first admission today and wait until May to use the second (or third) admission. You must, however, purchase the ticket by May 22, 2017. Tickets expire May 25, 2017, and are blocked out April 9–23, 2017. Read full details of this offer in the January 17 Disneyland Resort Update. You can either purchase tickets at the Disneyland Resort ticket booths, or online at Disneyland.com and print them at home. You can also purchase them at participating Disney Stores and authorized third party ticket outlets, including many local grocery stores. |

Visit our Annual Passholders Blockout Dates page to see more dates. You can see future calendar schedules at Disneyland. As always, specifics are subject to change without notice (or occasionally, without us noticing) so when information conflicts between what is presented here and that presented by Disney, it is best to assume Disney's information is correct.
Visit the Park Hours section of our Disneyland Park guide for additional details about Magic Morning and Toontown Morning Madness, including available attractions. Entertainment schedule: Go directly to the Disneyland Resort schedule for this week at Disneyland.com here.
The Seasons calendar is published on the Disneyland website for the next 8-11 months.
