Downtown Disney District's Splitsville Luxury Lanes Grand Opening | Disneyland After Dark: Star Wars Nite | Disney set to drop the gavel on Pirates of the Caribbean auction scene |This and that…
Splitsville Luxury Lanes now open in Downtown Disney
By Lisa Stiglic
Though the location has been in “soft opening” previews for over a month, Downtown Disney District's newest addition officially opened its doors to the public last week in Disney celebratory fashion. Goofy, was on hand to help with the ribbon cutting as Splitsville Luxury Lanes welcomed invited guests to “roll in and rock out.” This 40,000-square-foot, two-story location takes the place of the former House of Blues Anaheim and offers up a mix of bowling, trendy foods, and live entertainment.
There are 20 lanes total scattered throughout the building in groups or two or three, each having its own lounge area for a more private setting.

The lanes have been officially certified but are a bit shorter on the run-up and are not oiled. There are no monthly passes and no plans for league formation. Brightly colored balls are available for all bowlers, including six- and eight-pound balls, notated by some familiar Disney pals, available for smaller guests. Kids also have bumper options as well as bowling ramps for some added help.

Splitsville Lanes offers a menu filled with appetizers and some entrees, including loaded fries to tenderloin sliders as starters, as well as trendy pizzas like prosciutto and fig, or Philly cheesesteak. The menu also includes sushi, with selections such as spicy “crouching dragon” with tempura shrimp and Sriracha, or the “rainbow tataki” with salmon, tuna topped with a kimchee ponzu. Splitsville Lanes also offers plenty of wine, cocktail, and beer selections.

Guests can enjoy their food and beverages from anywhere in on the second level for a spectacular view of Downtown Disney District.

Splitsville invites bowlers to bring their own balls, bags, and shoes. For visiting bowlers, rental options are still available.

Guests can also just enjoy the live entertainment in the exterior lounge. Relax and enjoy the evening with a drink of your choice and some choice music.
Overall, Splitsville has much to offer families, couples, groups, and the solo visitor who may want to “roll in” for a game or just want to “rock out” with some live entertainment.

Bowling prices are $19 per person Monday through Friday until 4:00 p.m. Prices go up to $24 after 4 p.m. weekdays, and anytime weekends. The time allotted at each lane depends on how many people are in the group. Annual Passport discounts do apply.
Disneyland After Dark: Star Wars Nite
Disneyland is hosting its second Disneyland After Dark event for 2018 on Thursday, May 3. The Star Wars-themed event will provide fans with exclusive entertainment, plus a first look at the new and returning Star Wars offerings which debut on Friday, May the 4th at Disneyland.
Highlights of the event include:
- Hyperspace Mountain (returning for 2018)
- March of the First Order (new to Disneyland)
- Rey meet-and-greet (new to Disneyland)
- Galactic Dance Party
There will also be themed entertainment at locations around the park, meet-and-greets and “character encounters,” and a first chance to purchase “May the 4th” merchandise. Disney's PhotoPass department will again be a key player in the event, and admission includes free digital downloads of the PhotoPass photos taken during the event. Attendees are encouraged to wear costumes, though the same guidelines apply to this event as to the Halloween parties.
Tickets to this after-hours event are $95 per person, ages 3 and up, and do not include parking. No discounts apply, though Disneyland Resort annual passholders get first dibs on the tickets when they go on sale on Tuesday, March 27. Any remaining tickets will be available to the general public starting Thursday, March 29.
The event runs from 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., though ticket holders can enter Disneyland as early as 6:00 p.m. if they choose. In addition to Hyperspace Mountain, select Disneyland rides—including Star Tours – The Adventures Continue, “it's a small world,” Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Matterhorn Bobsleds and Jungle Cruise—will open for the event.
Check back on the event website on Tuesday, March 27 for the link to purchase tickets.
Disney set to drop the gavel on Pirates of the Caribbean auction scene
Pirates of the Caribbean fans have just one more month to take in the classic Pirates of the Caribbean auction scene, before the ride closes on April 23 for refurbishment. In a change announced last June, the ride will reopen later this year with a re-imagined auction scene, featuring the famous Redhead in a brand-new role. No longer satisfied to be a wench for the taking, the Redhead is joining the ranks of the pirate crew, and helping to conduct an “auction” of goods plundered from the local townspeople.
The Walt Disney World version of the ride closed last month, with the same change being made to that attraction.
This change has been met with strong criticism from die-hard fans who hate to see any changes made to the classic attractions, especially those touched by Walt Disney himself. When the announcement was made last year, Disney Legend Marty Sklar, who worked closely with Walt Disney during the earliest days of Disneyland, said the changes were in keeping with Walt's vision of the parks.
“To me, the Imagineers are simply reflecting what Walt started the day Disneyland opened—making changes that create exciting new experiences for our guests. I can't think of a single attraction that has not been enhanced and improved, some over and over again. Change is a 'tradition' at Disneyland that today's Imagineers practice—they learned it from their mentors, many of them Walt's original team of storytellers and designers—the Disney Legends.”
“Pirates of the Caribbean has always represented great Disney Park storytelling; it has set the standard for the theme park industry for half a century! But it's a story you can continue to add fun to, with great characters in new 'performances.' That's what the Imagineers have done with this new auction scene—it's like a theatre show with a new act.”
Pirates has been updated several times since first debuting at Disneyland in 1967, and each change has had its share of fans and detractors. Most notorious was the change made to the ride in 1997, in which a scene of chasing women through the town was altered by placing trays of food in the women's hands, thus framing the conflict as one of gluttony rather than lust (the Walt Disney World version of the ride, which opened in 1973, had always featured food).
The current version of Pirates of the Caribbean places the Redhead in a line of unwilling brides at the pirate auction. Photo © Disney.
The popularity of the theme park ride inspired Walt Disney Pictures to launch a wildly successful film franchise, beginning in 2003 with Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. Three years later, Disney brought the story full circle, adding characters from the film franchise to the attraction. Disneyland spokesperson Suzi Brown told MousePlanet:
“From introducing characters from the film saga, to the technology and story enhancements, changes to our attractions are done in the spirit of moving forward that Walt Disney inspired. We believe the time is right to turn the page to a new story in this scene, consistent with the humorous, adventurous spirit of the attraction.”
This brings us to 2018, and the latest change to the iconic ride. Concept art released by Disney shows the banner in the auction scene, which currently reads “Take a Wench for a Bride,” will be replaced with a new banner reading “Surrender Yer Loot.” Wealthy townspeople are shown hauling their household treasures to the steps, under the watchful eye of the pirates, which now include a gun-toting Redhead.
Kathy Mangum, vice president and executive producer with Walt Disney Imagineering, explains what Imagineers hoped to accomplish with this update:
“Our team thought long and hard about how to best update this scene. Given the redhead has long been a fan favorite, we wanted to keep her as a pivotal part of the story, so we made her a plundering pirate! We think this keeps to the original vision of the attraction as envisioned by Marc Davis, X Atencio and the other Disney legends who first brought this classic to life.”
Disneyland has not released the reopening date for the attraction. Our Alan Dalinka says the Walt Disney World version is expected to reopen as early as this week.

- Moonlight Magic after-hours event for Disney Vacation Club members – Thursday, November 15. Reservations open October 4.
We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

Current Discounts & Promotions
Disneyland prices as of February 11, 2018.
Note: MousePlanet does not edit past Updates to reflect price increases; for up-to-date prices, check the most recent Disneyland Resort Update. Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!
This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don't get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.

Discounts for:
Everyone |
Purchase with Purchase offers – Disneyland Resort shops frequently offer a reduced–price souvenir (often a tote bag, watch, or blanket) with a qualifying minimum purchase. These are offered at Disney-operated stores only, and selection may vary by location. Disney usually allows customers to purchase more than one of the offers in a qualifying transaction, so if you spend $40 or more you can buy both items currently available if you wish. If you're a passholder, the minimum purchase is calculated after your discount, and your discount does not apply to the promotional item. Current offers:
Landry's Select Club – members of the Landry's Select Club get priority seating at the Rainforest Cafe when available (which makes a huge difference on busy days). This club replaces the former Rainforest Cafe Safari Club, and runs on a point-based system that gives you a $25 gift certificate after you spend $250. Membership now costs $25, but comes with a $25 birthday reward. We recommend that you pre-purchase your membership before your visit so you can take advantage of the priority seating benefit. ESPNZone MVP Club – membership in the MVP Club does not offer any discounts on food. However, once a member you can make an online reservation for your party up to three days in advance and will get a 25 percent increase in points purchased when playing games in the Sports Arena (and 40 bonus points at activation). You must register online and your membership card will then be mailed to you within two weeks. The card must then be activated at any ESPNZone by the person who signed up for the card and ID will be required (link). Character Dining Vouchers – discounted character dining vouchers are available for purchase online, in advance of your trip, through Get Away Travel. |

Southern California residents |
Southern California residents can visit the Disneyland Resort theme parks multiple days before May 24, 2018 for as little as $159 with the 2018 So Cal Resident ticket. The 2-Day So Cal Resident 1-Park Per Day ticket offers residents of Southern California and Northern Baja California admission to either Disneyland or Disney California Adventure on one day, and then a second visit to either park on another day on or before May 24. You can use both days of this ticket at the same theme park, or visit one park one day and the other park on the second day, but you cannot use it to enter both parks on the same day. The ticket is $159 for ages 3 and up, a discount of 20% compared to box office prices and a $10 increase from the 2017 promotion. You can also upgrade the ticket to a park-hopper, which allows entry to both parks each day, for an additional $45, a savings of up to $40 compared to the box office price of a two-day park-hopper ticket. If you want an extra day to visit the parks, there is also a 3-Day 1-Park per Day option ($199) and a 3-Day Park Hopper ticket ($244) in the promotion. You can either purchase tickets at the Disneyland Resort ticket booths, or online at Disneyland.com and print them at home. You can also purchase them by calling (714) 781-4636. If purchased in advance of arrival, the three-day tickets include one Magic Morning admission. This benefit does not come with tickets purchased at the theme park ticket booths, so make sure to order online and print at home before you arrive. If purchasing at a participating third party ticket outlet, double-check that their 3-day tickets come with this feature. There is no “fuse” on this ticket, which means you can use the first admission today and wait until May to use the second (or third) admission. You must, however, purchase the ticket by May 21, 2018. Tickets expire May 24, 2018, and are blocked out March 23 through April 8, 2018. |

Visit our Annual Passholders Blockout Dates page to see more dates. You can see future calendar schedules at Disneyland. As always, specifics are subject to change without notice (or occasionally, without us noticing) so when information conflicts between what is presented here and that presented by Disney, it is best to assume Disney's information is correct.
Visit the Park Hours section of our Disneyland Park guide for additional details about Magic Morning and Toontown Morning Madness, including available attractions. Entertainment schedule: Go directly to the Disneyland Resort schedule for this week at Disneyland.com here.
The Seasons calendar is published on the Disneyland website for the next eight to 11 months.
