Grad Nite season begins
The first Grad Nite event of the 2024 season took place last Friday night, with a steady stream of the after-hours parties scheduled between now and June 14. There are three Grad Nite events scheduled for this week, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday nights.
Participating groups again had three ticket options for 2024. Many schools come just for the after-hours private party inside Disney California Adventure, which closes to the public at 9:00 p.m. each event night. Other schools opt to spend the day at Disney California Adventure, and then stay for the private grad nite event.
Some students splurge on a ticket that includes park-hopper access to both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure parks during regular operating hours, and then head to their private party in Disney California Adventure at 9:00 p.m..
Schools that booked packages with theme park admission can choose to arrive whenever they wish during their Grad Nite event. Some arrive right at park opening to maximize their time, while others arrive later due to travel time or other activities. Expect heavier arrival traffic in the Toy Story parking lot, which is where school buses now park. You should also expect to see the parks grow increasingly crowded as the day goes on and more students arrive.
Beware: Formal Grad Nites are not the only times that the Disneyland Resort is crowded with student groups. As recent visitors can attest, the last weeks of school are popular times for class trips, something that Disney actively encourages through special pricing and activities for school groups. Those visits won’t appear on any calendar, but are a fact of Disney life during this season.
With so many schools on year-round calendars now, you should consider the period between March and mid-June as one big, hazy spring-break-into-graduation season. So while the Grad Nite calendar can give you an idea of when the most high school seniors will be on property, there’s no way to know when a school district from Central California is sending its ninth graders for their own promotion celebration.
If you’re planning a visit during this period, be sure to consult the schedule of Grad Nite dates so you can plan appropriately. For 2024, Grad Nite events are held on May 10, 14, 15, 17, 19, 22, 23, 28, and 31; June 2, 5, 7, 9, 12, and 14.
If you happen to visit on a Grad Nite, don’t despair. Keep in mind that Disney California Adventure does close to the public at 9:00 p.m., and you’ll only have one chance to catch World of Color – One on event nights. If World of Color isn’t a priority for you, we recommend starting your day in Disney California Adventure, and then hopping over to Disneyland by mid-afternoon as the grads arrive. Disneyland closes at 11 p.m. or Midnight on Grad Nites, so you’ll have a couple of grad-free hours in that park after the party begins in DCA.
Now, if you or your grad happen to be going to Grad Nite, be sure to download the Disneyland app, which contains the digital guide to the after-hours party. You can find special entertainment, character greetings and food offerings on the app.
Disneyland Forward gets final go-ahead
In a second unanimous vote, the Anaheim City Council voted Tuesday night to give final approval to the Disneyland Forward initiative, clearing the way for a $1.9 billion expansion of the Disneyland Resort.
The vote was the final step in a three-year process, which included an environmental impact study and prior approval from the Anaheim planning commission. The Anaheim City Council gave preliminary approval to the project on April 17, 2024.
Shortly after the vote was cast, Disneyland Resort President Ken Potrock posted a message to the Disney Parks Blog titled, “Our Future Starts Now with DisneylandForward.” In his message, Potrock thanked the Anaheim City Council for partnering with Disney on the expansion project, and said “it’s time for the next chapter in the legacy of Disneyland Resort.”
The company has not shared any details about what they plan to build or where, beyond teasers about an Avatar experience at the Disneyland Resort. We’re hoping to learn much more about Disneyland’s future during the upcoming D23 Expo in August.
Oogie Boogie Bash expands in 2024
The after-hours Oogie Boogie Bash at Disney California Adventure expands to 27 nights this year, running select nights August 25 thorough October 31. Disney hasn’t said when tickets will go on sale, so stay posted, but we do know the exact dates:
August: Sunday, Aug. 25; Tuesday, Aug. 27 and Thursday, Aug. 29
September: Tuesday, Sept. 3; Tuesday, Sept. 10; Thursday, Sept. 12; Sunday, Sept. 15; Tuesday, Sept. 17; Thursday, Sept. 19; Sunday, Sept. 22; Tuesday, Sept. 24; Thursday, Sept. 26 and Sunday, Sept. 29
October: Tuesday, Oct. 1; Thursday, Oct. 3; Sunday, Oct. 6; Tuesday, Oct. 8; Thursday, Oct. 10; Sunday, Oct. 13; Tuesday, Oct. 15; Thursday, Oct. 17; Sunday, Oct. 20; Tuesday, Oct. 22; Thursday, Oct. 24; Sunday, Oct. 27; Tuesday, Oct. 29; and Thursday, Oct. 31.
Pricing has yet to be released.
Fantasmic dining packages now available to reserve at Blue Bayou
Fantasmic returns to the Disneyland Resort on Friday, May 24, and Disney last week released details of the premium Fantasmic dining package at the Blue Bayou restaurant.
Your lunch or dinner reservation includes a five-course meal, a “souvenir item for non-alcoholic beverages,” a “Fantasmic!-inspired chocolate decadence tart” for dessert and a voucher providing entry to a reserved viewing area for that evening’s performance of Fantasmic. You choose your meal and show time when you book your reservation. Pricing is $89 per ages 10 and older, $35 for children ages 3-9. You can get more details here on MousePlanet.
Reservations are available up to 60 through the Disneyland website, and seem to be very popular – as of press time, July 11 was the only day with any open reservations.
Disney says details of additional dining packages will be released shortly. Prior to Fantasmic’s unscheduled hiatus in 2023, two dining packages were offered at River Belle Terrace in Frontierland, and the Hungry Bear Restaurant in Critter Country offered a “on-the-go” package option. We expect some of these options to return in some form this year.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure gets Walt Disney World opening date
Disney announced the opening date of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Walt Disney World Sunday night during the broadcast of American Idol. The ride will open in Florida on June 28, following a preview period for cast members, annual passholders and Disney Vacation Club members. Details about those opportunities will be released starting May 14.
Jennifer Lewis, who voiced Mama Odie in the film The Princess and the Frog and also for the attraction, appeared on the show to sing “Dig a Little Deeper.” Disney Parks last week shared a video of Lewis meeting her audio-animatronic alter-ego, and her reaction was priceless.
Disney has not given any update on the ride’s opening in California, beyond saying the attraction will debut in 2024.

- Holidays at the Disneyland Resort – Begins November 15.
We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it’s best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.
Current Discounts and Promotions
Disneyland prices as of October 11, 2023.
Note: MousePlanet does not edit past Updates to reflect price increases; for up-to-date prices, check the most recent Disneyland Resort Update. Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!
This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don’t get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.

SoCal Resident 3-day Ticket Offer – January 2 – June 2, 2024
The Southern California Resident Ticket offers residents admission to either Disneyland or Disney California Adventure up to three weekdays between January 2 and June 2, 2024 for $225, or up to any three days between January 2 and June 2, 2024 for $275.
You can use every day of this ticket at the same theme park, or visit different parks on different days, but you can’t use it to enter both parks on the same day. For an additional $70, you can upgrade the ticket to a park-hopper, which allows entry to both parks each day.
You can also add Disney Genie+ service for an additional $90 for the three days when purchased in advance. Remember that you can also upgrade to Disney Genie+ after you enter the theme park (subject to availability) and pay the then-current daily fee. We recommend going with the latter option for your first experience with Disney Genie+, just to make sure the service provides a value for you. If you love it, you can always add the Genie+ to your remaining days.
Tickets are available through the Disneyland website, or through MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.
There is no “fuse” on this ticket, which means that you can use the first admission on January 2 and wait until June 2 to use the remaining admission. However, remember that you must make a theme park reservation for each day that you want to use the ticket. Disney also warns that ticket sales may be paused or ended at any time, so it’s probably best to purchase early so you’re ready to make reservations as soon as they open for your desired travel dates. Reservations can now be made up to 180 days in advance, which as of press time includes the entire duration of this offer.
Disney states that proof of residency is required for purchase and admission, and each resident can purchase up to five tickets per day.
Now for the official fine print:

3-Day Disneyland Ticket Offer – June 10 – September 26, 2024
Visit the Disneyland Resort theme parks three weekdays between June 10 and September 26, 2024 for as little as $149 for ages 3-9, or $249 for ages 10 and older using a new discounted ticket which goes on sale May 29, 2024. That represents a savings of up to $219 off the regular price of a three-day, one-park-per-day ticket for children ages 3-9. The adult offer is a $141 discount, and is the same price than the summer 2023 deal.
You can also choose between a ticket good Monday through Thursday OR a slightly more expensive ticket good any day of the week. There are also options to add park hopping and Disney Genie+ service to your ticket at the time of purchase.
This new offer differs from past discouts discounts, so be sure to pay close attention to details before you purchase.
The 3-Day Disneyland Ticket Offer is a 3-day, 1-park-per-day ticket that offers admission to either Disneyland or Disney California Adventure:
- The weekday ticket – starting at $149 for ages 3-9; $249 for ages 10 and older. Three weekdays (Mondays through Thursdays only) between June 10 and September 26, 2024
- The any day ticket – starting at $199 for ages 3-9; $299, for ages 10 and older. Three days (any day of the week, including weekends) between June 10 and September 26, 2024
You can use every day of the 3-Day Disneyland Ticket at the same theme park, or visit different parks on different days, but you can’t use it to enter both parks on the same day unless you add the park-hopper option ($70 per ticket)
There is no “fuse” on this ticket, which means that you can use the first admission on June 10 and wait until September 26 to use the remaining admission. However, remember that you must make a theme park reservation for each day that you want to use the ticket. Disney also warns that reservations for this category of ticket are not guaranteed for any particular dates, and that a date may sell out in this ticket category though other ticket types have reservations of available. It is probably best to purchase early and make reservations as soon as they open for your desired travel dates. Each day of use constitutes one full day of use.
Tickets expire on September 26, 2024, and have no holiday blackouts. That means that you can visit on the 4th of July holiday using a weekday ticket, assuming reservations are available.
May purchase up to 15 tickets per eligible person per day. Tickets are nonrefundable, may not be sold or transferred for commercial use and exclude activities/events separately priced. Offer may not be combined with other ticket discounts or promotions. Subject to restrictions and change or cancellation without notice.

2024 Military Hotel discounts
Military discounts are valid for stays most nights from January 2 through December 13, 2024. You can book now through December 10, 2024, and travel must be completed by December 14, 2024.
Disney does not publish the actual discounted rates, and instead asks eligible U.S. military personnel to call (833) 618-0536 to check pricing, availability and to make reservations. In past years, the offer was generally 30% to 40% off, based on room category. Concierge rooms, Signature or Premium suites, or 2-or 3-Bedroom Villas are excluded from the offer, and this offer can not be combined with any other discount.
Unlike the Walt Disney World version, the Disneyland offer allows the eligible service member to book up to two rooms, and allows their spouse (with valid and proper ID) to qualify in the absence of the service member, provided the spouse stays in one of the rooms booked.
