Disneyland Resort Update for May 16 – 22, 2022
News and Views
Finally! Fantasmic!
Disneyland's final nighttime spectacular returns this weekend, putting the final piece of the entertainment puzzle back in place for the resort. It's been more than two years since Mickey faced off against Maleficent on the Rivers of America, and we don't know what changes may have been made since we last saw them. Showtimes are at 9:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. most nights, with the possibility of a bonus third show added on extra-busy nights like the Fourth of July.

Surprisingly, it doesn't appear that Disney is going to use any sort of reservation system for Fantasmic when it returns. The World of Color is still using a virtual queue to manage its viewing areas, but Disney hasn't made any mention of using the same system for Fantasmic. Apart from sections reserved for guests who book certain dining packages, Fantasmic seating seems to be a free-for-all.
Disneyland has made major modifications to the walkways around the Rivers of America, changing the Fantasmic viewing area considerably from its pre-pandemic layout. We're not sure how park managers will set up the viewing areas, and look forward to sharing the details with you as we have them.

Fantasmic dining package details
Fans of Fantasmic have four ways to see the show from a preferred viewing area with dining packages available at Hungry Bear Restaurant, River Belle Terrace, and the Blue Bayou Restaurant. The Hungry Bear and River Belle packages are available to book now; the Blue Bayou package will be available sometime after the restaurant reopens on Saturday, June 25.

Fantasmic! On-the-Go Package at Hungry Bear Restaurant
This package includes lunch or dinner from a special menu created just for the event. Entree choices are barbecued pork ribs, grilled salmon salad, barbecued half-chicken or a plant-based Impossible sloppy joe sandwich. Each meal comes with a choice of two sides: bacon potato salad, seasonal vegetables, or fresh fruit, plus dessert and a fountain drink.
Kids entrees include barbecued ribs, mac and cheese, and a plant-based Impossible sloppy joe slider.
You can book this package in advance from the Disneyland website or mobile app up to 60 days in advance. Select the number of guests and a pick-up time when you make the reservation. If you pick an earlier meal time (3:00 to 6:45 p.m.), you'll receive a voucher for entry to a reserved viewing area from which to watch the first performance of the night. If you book a later meal time (7:00 to 8:30 p.m.), you'll watch the second show.
Disney hasn't said where the reserved viewing area is for this package, but notes that it's standing room only, with accommodations for guests with disabilities. Our guess is that they'll use the new expanded seating area next to Harbour Galley.
Pricing for this package is $35 for ages 10 and up ($25 for ages 3 to 9; tax is not included, and no discounts apply. Once you make a reservation, you may cancel up to 24 hours in advance without penalty, but if you cancel after or are a no-show, you will incur a $10-per-person cancellation fee.
River Belle Terrace – Premium Package
If you'd like to watch Fantasmic from your table at the River Belle Terrace, this is the option for you. Each package comes with a 7:15 p.m. dining reservation at the restaurant, after which you will remain at your table to watch the first performance of the evening.
Diners have the option of ordering from the regular River Belle Terrance menu, or choosing from special menu items available only with the package.
Pricing for this package is $75 for ages 10 and up ($45 for ages 3 to 9); tax and gratuity are not included, and no discounts apply. You can book this package in advance from the Disneyland website or mobile app up to 60 days in advance. Once you make a reservation, you may cancel up to 24 hours in advance without penalty, but if you cancel after or are a no-show you will incur a $10 per person cancellation fee.
River Belle Terrace – Standard Package
This is a less expensive option, with greater flexibility to choose between earlier and late showtimes. The standard package includes lunch or dinner at River Belle Terrace, again with the option of ordering from the regular River Belle Terrance menu, or choosing from special menu items available only with the package.
Each package comes with a voucher for entry to a reserved viewing area to watch Fantasmic. Again, Disney has not said where this viewing area will be located, but we expect it will be near the restaurant. The viewing area is standing room only, with accommodations for guests with disabilities.
Unlike the prior two packages, this one doesn't require—or even offer—advance reservations. Instead, you would book a reservation at River Belle Terrace, and ask your server about upgrading to the Fantasmic dining package when you arrive. Your server will let you know if upgrades are still available for the day, and for which performances.
Pricing for this package is $50 for ages 10 and up ($30 for ages 3 to 9); tax and gratuity are not included, and no discounts apply.
Blue Bayou Restaurant
This restaurant is scheduled to reopen June 25, but Disney hasn't yet reopened reservations for the location. We will share details of the Fantasmic dining package as soon as we receive them.
Tomorrowland Skyline Lounge Experience reopens
In 2017, Disneyland introduced the Tomorrowland Skyline Lounge, an upcharge experience that turned the second floor balcony of the former Innoventions/Star Wars Launch Bay building into a nighttime hangout spot. The offering returned this weekend, with a new format and price increase.
The Tomorrowland Skyline Lounge Experience is now a dinner package, and each guest receives an entree, sides, and dessert, along with unlimited soft drinks, coffee, hot cocoa, and bottled water. Customers pick up their meal from the Galactic Grill in Tomorrowland before heading upstairs to the Skyline Lounge. Entree options are a meatloaf sandwich, chicken parmesan sandwich, or vegan pasta bake, with french fries or pasta salad on the side. Hot drinks are also served from the Galactic Grill, but cold drinks are available in the Lounge.
Your package includes a reserved table in the Skyline Lounge all night, and you can come and go as you please. Note: You may be seated with other parties. Each table in outfitted with charging stations for your electronic devices, and there are a variety of games around the area if you're so inclined.
On nights when Disneyland presents fireworks, the Skyline Lounge offers a unique vantage point, though definitely not the best view available inside Disneyland. The view is partly obstructed by the Observatron tower, Matterhorn, trees, and area light fixtures.
The Tomorrowland Skyline Lounge Experience is $60 per person ages 3 and up, plus tax and gratuity. There's no charge for children age 2 and under, but they must sit on an adult's lap. We should also note that strollers are not allowed upstairs in the Skyline Lounge.
You can book this package in advance from the Disneyland website or mobile app up to 60 days in advance. Once you make a reservation, you may cancel up to 48 hours in advance without penalty, but if you cancel after or are a no-show the credit card you provided at the time you made the reservation will be charged the full fee.
Paradise Garden Grill gets new menu
[Updated 5/23 with corrected menu details]
The Paradise Garden Grill at Disney California Adventure has debuted another limited-time menu, this time focusing on all things BBQ.
The new entrees feature St. Louis-style BBQ-rubbed chicken, Kansas City-style BBQ spare ribs and a North Carolina-style BBQ pulled pork sandwich. Each is served with pickles, onions and a choice of side dish. Side dishes include poblano mac & cheese, potato salad with eggs and bacon or chuck wagon beans, coleslaw. You can also order Andouille sausage and jalapeño-cheddar corn bread to accompany the meal at an additional cost.
The plant-based option is a BBQ-spiced Impossible plant-based patty topped with vinegar coleslaw, crispy onions and jalapeños. This is served with pickles, onions and side of plant-based potato salad
A novel offering is a family picnic platter for $65. This comes with a BBQ half chicken, pulled pork and ribs, plus a serving of each side dish. The picnic platter also comes with cherry cheesecake, and is said to serve 2 to 4 people.

Now is the time to plan your summer travel! Many Anaheim conventions are coming back this summer, so you want to secure your first choice of rooms and theme park reservations before they become limited. Booking early is our number one tip for a happy Disneyland or Walt Disney World vacation. Visit Get Away Today or call 1-855-GET-AWAY, and be sure to mention you saw them on MousePlanet.
This and That
…The final Disneyland After Dark: Star Wars Nite is this Friday, May 27. Disneyland closes at 8:00 p.m. for the event.
…Walt Disney World announced last week plans to reopen its Harmony Barber Shop at the Magic Kingdom July 31, and said that Magical Transformations will once more be offered at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutiques in Florida and at the Disneyland Resort later this year. No specific opening date was given. The locations closed during the pandemic, and had yet to reopen.
…Storytelling has returned to the Royal Theater in Princess Fantasy Faire at Disneyland. The performances take place up to six times per day, and feature a small cast retelling Beauty and the Beast or Tangled in a signature comedic style. The small venue offers bench seating, and fills quickly, so we recommend arriving at least 30 minutes before showtime.
…There are Grad Nite events scheduled Wednesday and Thursday this week. Be sure to check our Disneyland Resort Update from May 9 for a recap of what to expect on Grad Nites.

- Grad Nites: May 13, 14, 18, 20, 21, 25, 26, and 31; June 1, 3, 4, 7, 8, 10, 11, and 17

- 2022 D23 Expo – September 9–11, 2022 at the Anaheim Convention Center.
- Gay Days (unofficial event) – September 16–18. More information at the event website.
We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

Current Discounts and Promotions
Disneyland prices as of October 25, 2021.
Note: MousePlanet does not edit past Updates to reflect price increases; for up-to-date prices, check the most recent Disneyland Resort Update. Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!
This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don't get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.

SoCal Resident Ticket Offer
The Southern California Resident Ticket offers residents of Southern California admission to either Disneyland or Disney California Adventure up to three weekdays between January 3 and May 26, 2022.
You can use every day of this ticket at the same theme park, or visit different parks on different days, but you can't use it to enter both parks on the same day. The ticket is $199 for ages 3 and up, which is the same price as the 2020 offer. Of course, this new ticket is valid only Mondays through Fridays, and weekends are not included.
For an additional $60, you can also upgrade the ticket to a park-hopper, which allows entry to both parks each day. You can also add Disney Genie+ service for an additional $60 for the three days when purchased in advance. Tickets are available through the Disneyland website, or through MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.
There's no “fuse” on this ticket, which means that you can use the first admission on January 3 and wait until May 26 to use the remaining admission. However, remember that you must make a theme park reservation for each day that you want to use the ticket. Disney also warns that ticket sales may be paused or ended at any time, so it's probably best to purchase early so you're ready to make reservations as soon as they open for your desired travel dates.
Tickets expire on May 26, 2022, and unlike past years, do not have a spring blockout period. However, we estimate the peak Spring Break crowds will arrive April 11–22, 2022. so plan your visits accordingly.
Disney states that proof of residency is required for purchase and admission, and each resident can purchase up to five tickets per day.
