Fantasmic returns Friday
Fantasmic returns to the Disneyland Resort this Friday, May 24, following a 13-month unscheduled hiatus. Disney has previously said that the 45-foot-tall, fire-breathing Maleficent dragon figure will not make a return to the show at this time, but that the show will feature an all-new finale.
Fans are also eaged for the return of the “Peter Pan” sequence onboard the Sailing Ship Columbia, though we don’t know if the Tic Tock crocodile unit will return to the show. The has been restored to the show, having previously been replaced by a “Pirates of the Caribbean” segment.
Disney will not use any sort of virtual queue system for Fantasmic, and all general-viewing areas are first-come, first serve.
Last week we shared details of the Fantasmic dining package available at the Blue Bayou restaurant, and now we have information about packages being offered at River Belle Terrace and Rancho del Zocalo. You can scroll down for more details, but here are our tips for those who want to see the show without paying for a meal package:
- Don’t arrive too early. Disney says the viewing areas will open no earlier than 2 hours prior to the first show. However, as viewing areas open, expect them to fill somewhat quickly.
- Don’t bother with the big blanket. While you may want to bring a blanket to sit on while you wait, Disney will not allow you to use personal items to save a large space for your friends and family to join you.
- Center is better, but railings are best. The best view of the show is of course from center stage, facing the Cider Mill on Tom Sawyer Island. However, that’s also the first to fill up. If you are short or have little ones in your party, a space off to one side with a low planter and rail in front of you is better than a central spot behind 5 rows of people.
- We also like the bridge in front of Pirates of the Carribean, though you may have some trees or light poles preventing the perfect view.
- Bring your patience. Disney previously reworked the walkways in New Orleans Square to improve traffic flow through the viewing areas, but the ongoing Haunted Mansion construction is likely to cause new headaches.
- If you’re there for the first show, be sure to stay put for fireworks (if offered). There are great projections on Tom Sawyer Island during the fireworks to enhance the show.
- Wait for the second Fantasmic if you don’t have an early bedtime. As soon as fireworks are over and the audience for the first show starts to clear out, you can usually slip in and get a great view for the second show with a much shorter wait. However, we note that it may be much more difficult to get near the viewing areas due to the New Orleans Square construction, so you’ll need to play this by ear.
Additional Fantasmic dining packages
River Belle Terrace
his Frontierland restaurant offers two packages: a Premium dinner package which allows you to watch the first show from your table at the restaurant, or a Standard package which includes entry to a reserved viewing section for the first or second show.
The Premium package is offered one time per night, with a 7:15 p.m. seating. The 3-course adult meal includes entree choices from the restaurant’s regular menu or the expanded Fantasmic menu, plus dessert. Pricing is the same as the Blue Bayou package – $89 per ages 10 and older, $35 for children ages 3-9.
If you opt for the Premium package, you will watch the show from your table at River Belle Terrace. Note that you may not be seated at the rail, and so may have other tables in front of you.
The Standard package gives you a lot more flexibility in choosing both meal and show times when you book your reservation. Brunch is offered from 11:00 a.m. – 3:55 p.m., and dinner is served from 4:00 p.m. to 7:50 p.m. The meal includes three courses from the brunch or dinner menu. Pricing for brunch or dinner is $55 per ages 10 and older, $30 for children ages 3-9.
If you opt for the Standard package, each paid member of your party will receive a voucher for a reserved viewing area for the showtime you selected. This area offers ground seating only, though Disney says there are accomodations available for those with disabilities. When this package was last offered, the viewing area was in front one of the water screens to the side of the stage, though we won’t know until Friday what the situation looks like now.
Rancho del Zocalo
This new option is also the most affordable, and is available for lunch or dinner. The package includes a three-course meal with a choice of entrees, a pre-selected dessert and beverage. Pricing for brunch or dinner is $35 per ages 10 and older, $25 for children ages 3-9. Each paid member of your party will receive a voucher for a reserved viewing area for the showtime you selected. This area offers ground seating only, though Disney says there are accomodations available for those with disabilities. Since this is a new package, we don’t know where the viewing area is. However, I expect it will be in the same place as the Hungry Bear package was offered previously, facing the water screen on the west side of the stage.
Reservations are available up to 60 day in advance through the Disneyland website. As of press time, there was no availability earlier than June 3. There are no dining packages offered on June 18 or 20 due to the Disneyland After Dark events on those nights.
Character performers vote to unionize
Disneyland cast members who perform in the Characters and Parades departments last week voted to to join the Actors’ Equity Association (Equity), the same association which represents their counterparts in Walt Disney World and Disney on Broadway. Nearly 80% of those who cast ballots voted to join the union, which Equity hails as a “landslide victory.”
Equity says the vote will be certified by the National Labor Relations Board within a week if there are no election challenges. Association President Kate Shindle said, “This is an incredible victory, and we appreciate all the support over the past several weeks. We’re excited about the next phase,” which will include negotations on topics including wages, benefits and working conditions.
Creators Club concierge lounge to open at Pixar Place hotel
Though the Pixar Place Hotel was officially renamed in January, the hotel has not yet fully completed its transformation and work continues on guest rooms and amenities. This Friday Disney will unveil the Creators Club, a new concierge lounge available to guests who book a club-level room at the hotel.
We had an opportunity to visit the Creators Club earlier this year, and it is a space that any Pixar fan will truly enjoy. The room is filled with art and sculpture from the many Pixar-themed attractions across the Disney theme parks, including international resorts. In one corner you’ll find a firefly lamp from the former A Bug’s Land at Disney California Adventure; in another stands a figure from Jessie’s Critter Carousel. The service area is naturally decorated with artwork from “Ratatouille,”
What I appreciated most about the lounge is how it’s broken up into intimate nooks, so it doesn’t seem overly loud or crowded. It’s a comfortable space which feels like you’re inside an excecutive lounge in Pixar’s Emeryville headquarters.
The Creators Club is open for continental breakfast in the morning, and will serve hot bites and desserts in the evening, as well as beer and sparkling wine. There is also a dedicated concierge on site to assist guests with their planning needs.
Starting May 24, access to the Creator Club is available to guests who book a concierge-level or club-level room at the Pixar Pier Hotel. Disney says that “guests with existing Pixar Place Hotel room reservations who would like to upgrade to a concierge level room should contact a cast member at 714-520-5050 for assistance.”
The extra perks come at a price, and you can expect to pay $200 or more per night in addition to your room rate for the upgrade. Some feel that the complementary breakfast and evening snacks are worth the cost, especially if you take advantage of the drink offerings. Others prefer to save that money or splurge in a different area of their vacation.
Pixar speaker series announced
Guests staying at one of the three Disneyland Resort hotels can take part in a limited-time speaker series featuring a trio of Pixar stars. The series kicks off this Saturday, May 25 with Peter Sohn, director of Pixar’s “Elemental.”
On Thursday, June 20, guests can hear from Maurissa Horwitz, lead editor for “Inside Out 2,” which has its theatrical debut on June 14.
The series concludes on Saturday, July 13, with a presentation by Roger Gould, creative director, Theme Parks, Pixar Animation Studios.
Guests staying at one of the hotels during this event should contact a front desk cast member for assistance with booking the complimentary offering, subject to availability.
New no-show tracker for Magic Key holders
The Disneyland website and mobile app have added a new feature for Magic Key holders which lets them see how many reservation “no shows” they have on their account. Where Walt Disney World has mostly abandoned the requirement, Disneyland Magic Key holders still have to make an advance reservation for each day they want to visit the theme parks. With reservations open 90 days in advance, sometimes you can forget that you’ve made a reservation by the time it rolls around. While Magic Key holders can cancel a reservation up until the day before with no penalty, there are also last-minute factors, like illness, which keep guests from visiting on the day of their reservation.
Magic Key holders can accumulate two no-shows in a 90-day period without penalty, but after the third missed visit they are unable to make new reservations or modify existing reservations for 30 days after the third strike. Before now, Magic Key holders had to calculate this date themselves, because there was no way to get that information from Disney. (The company does send out “You Missed Your Reservation!” emails, but delivery is inconsistent – I’ve gotten one three weeks after the missed date). Now Magic Key holders can find these details on the Disneyland app, and know immediately their no-show status.
To check yours, navigate to the Book Theme Park Reservations page on the Disneyland app or website, and view the list of Magic Keys linked to your account. You can see the no-show count for each pass. Click View Details to get the specifics for any no-shows recorded.

- Gay Days Anaheim (unofficial event) – September 13–15. More information at the event website.
- Holidays at the Disneyland Resort – Begins November 15.
We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it’s best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.
Current Discounts and Promotions
Disneyland prices as of October 11, 2023.
Note: MousePlanet does not edit past Updates to reflect price increases; for up-to-date prices, check the most recent Disneyland Resort Update. Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!
This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don’t get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.

SoCal Resident 3-day Ticket Offer – January 2 – June 2, 2024
The Southern California Resident Ticket offers residents admission to either Disneyland or Disney California Adventure up to three weekdays between January 2 and June 2, 2024 for $225, or up to any three days between January 2 and June 2, 2024 for $275.
You can use every day of this ticket at the same theme park, or visit different parks on different days, but you can’t use it to enter both parks on the same day. For an additional $70, you can upgrade the ticket to a park-hopper, which allows entry to both parks each day.
You can also add Disney Genie+ service for an additional $90 for the three days when purchased in advance. Remember that you can also upgrade to Disney Genie+ after you enter the theme park (subject to availability) and pay the then-current daily fee. We recommend going with the latter option for your first experience with Disney Genie+, just to make sure the service provides a value for you. If you love it, you can always add the Genie+ to your remaining days.
Tickets are available through the Disneyland website, or through MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.
There is no “fuse” on this ticket, which means that you can use the first admission on January 2 and wait until June 2 to use the remaining admission. However, remember that you must make a theme park reservation for each day that you want to use the ticket. Disney also warns that ticket sales may be paused or ended at any time, so it’s probably best to purchase early so you’re ready to make reservations as soon as they open for your desired travel dates. Reservations can now be made up to 180 days in advance, which as of press time includes the entire duration of this offer.
Disney states that proof of residency is required for purchase and admission, and each resident can purchase up to five tickets per day.
Now for the official fine print:
Southern California Resident Ticket

- Tickets are not valid before January 2, 2024, expire June 2, 2024, and are limited in availability.
- To enter a theme park, Guests (ages 3 and older) need a valid ticket and a theme park reservation for the same day and same park they want to visit.
- Theme park reservations can be made up to 180 days in advance and are limited and subject to availability and restrictions.
- Each day of use constitutes one full day of use.
- Eligible residents may purchase up to 5 tickets per day with valid ID.
- Tickets are nonrefundable, may not be sold or transferred for commercial use and exclude activities/events separately priced.
- Offer may not be combined with other ticket discounts or promotions, and is subject to restrictions, change and cancellation without notice.
- Sales may be paused from time to time or terminated at any time.
3-Day Disneyland Ticket Offer – June 10 – September 26, 2024
Visit the Disneyland Resort theme parks three weekdays between June 10 and September 26, 2024 for as little as $149 for ages 3-9, or $249 for ages 10 and older using a new discounted ticket which goes on sale May 29, 2024. That represents a savings of up to $219 off the regular price of a three-day, one-park-per-day ticket for children ages 3-9. The adult offer is a $141 discount, and is the same price than the summer 2023 deal.
You can also choose between a ticket good Monday through Thursday OR a slightly more expensive ticket good any day of the week. There are also options to add park hopping and Disney Genie+ service to your ticket at the time of purchase.
This new offer differs from past discouts discounts, so be sure to pay close attention to details before you purchase.
The 3-Day Disneyland Ticket Offer is a 3-day, 1-park-per-day ticket that offers admission to either Disneyland or Disney California Adventure:
- The weekday ticket – starting at $149 for ages 3-9; $249 for ages 10 and older. Three weekdays (Mondays through Thursdays only) between June 10 and September 26, 2024
- The any day ticket – starting at $199 for ages 3-9; $299, for ages 10 and older. Three days (any day of the week, including weekends) between June 10 and September 26, 2024

There is no “fuse” on this ticket, which means that you can use the first admission on June 10 and wait until September 26 to use the remaining admission. However, remember that you must make a theme park reservation for each day that you want to use the ticket. Disney also warns that reservations for this category of ticket are not guaranteed for any particular dates, and that a date may sell out in this ticket category though other ticket types have reservations of available. It is probably best to purchase early and make reservations as soon as they open for your desired travel dates. Each day of use constitutes one full day of use.
Tickets expire on September 26, 2024, and have no holiday blackouts. That means that you can visit on the 4th of July holiday using a weekday ticket, assuming reservations are available.
May purchase up to 15 tickets per eligible person per day. Tickets are nonrefundable, may not be sold or transferred for commercial use and exclude activities/events separately priced. 2024 Military Hotel discounts
Military discounts are valid for stays most nights from January 2 through December 13, 2024. You can book now through December 10, 2024, and travel must be completed by December 14, 2024.
Disney does not publish the actual discounted rates, and instead asks eligible U.S. military personnel to call (833) 618-0536 to check pricing, availability and to make reservations. In past years, the offer was generally 30% to 40% off, based on room category. Concierge rooms, Signature or Premium suites, or 2-or 3-Bedroom Villas are excluded from the offer, and this offer can not be combined with any other discount.
Unlike the Walt Disney World version, the Disneyland offer allows the eligible service member to book up to two rooms, and allows their spouse (with valid and proper ID) to qualify in the absence of the service member, provided the spouse stays in one of the rooms booked.
