A Star Wars-free Update
This is a historical week for the Disneyland Resort, with the long-awaited opening of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge on Friday. But before we all jump light-speed to Batuu, we wanted to offer a final Star Wars-free update. Todd Pickering and I spent some time wandering around Disneyland this rainy Sunday morning, and want to share some progress from the rest of the park.

More Sleeping Beauty Castle

The final construction walls are down and Sleeping Beauty Castle is now fully reopen to the public, as are the Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough and Enchanted Chamber, the Fairy Tale Treasures shop, and the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique.

In addition to replacing the roof and turret caps and completely repainting the castle, Disney workers took the opportunity to refresh the interior scenes of the Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough. Jim Slagle, director of facility asset management for the resort, says his team punched the color of the show sets and improved the audio and the lighting throughout the attraction. The differences are noticeable even in photos, but are especially striking in person.

Main Street, U.S.A. and Adventureland
The first phase of the renovation of Disneyland's central plaza has wrapped up, leaving wider walkways and easier transitions on the west side of the hub. As part of this project, the Main Street Coffee Cart was removed, and cast members tell us it won't return to its former location. For now, cast members direct customers to either the Market Place (Starbucks) on Main Street, or to the Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe. The latter is where the Coffee Cart's famous donuts are currently available, although they're not very prominently displayed in the bakery case.

The project also saw the Guest Relations kiosk and wait-time board relocated to the east side of Main Street, near the Plaza Inn. The new wait-time board is electronic, with two screens that display attraction availability and entertainment offerings. One thing we noticed is that the screens display only the next performance of each show instead of the full schedule of performances, so you'll still need to use the Disneyland smartphone application or the increasingly hard-to-find printed entertainment schedule for additional show times.

The new Adventureland entrance sign was installed last week, wrapping up the project that saw the entrance to that land widened. The new sign is a near replica of the original, just scaled larger to fit the wider entrance.

Soarin' Over California again

Disney announced last week that the original Soarin' Over California film is returning to Disney California Adventure from June 1 to 30 as part of a special limited engagement. The Disney Parks Blog announcement was met with a fair number of comments from fans who want Disney to keep the original film at the California theme park after the limited engagement, and have it replace the updated Soarin' Around the World version that debuted in 2016 following the opening of Shanghai Disneyland.

Pizza Planet reopened in Tomorrowland this weekend following a brief refurbishment, but there's still some work to be done. The original Redd Rockett's Pizza Port sign that was covered by a vinyl banner during the Pixar Fest overlay has been completely removed, but a new permanent Pizza Planet sign has yet to be installed. However, the Pizza Planet logo is now prominently affixed to the adjacent Moonliner replica.

The interior changes are noticeable as soon as you step into the restaurant. The beverage dispensers and cold cases have been removed from the center of the serving area, and replaced with a small station where you can grab a tray and proceed to pick up food from the serving stations around the room. Smaller cold cases are now located at each cash register station, along with cup dispensers.

The soda dispensers are now located along one wall of the dining area, beyond the cash registers—finally ending the debate about whether soda refills are free at this location. The seating area was refurbished, with all of the central booths removed in favor of additional tables. The new layout seems to have more seating capacity, but is also a bit cramped. All of the decorations added during the Pixar Fest overlay are still in place, including the Pizza Planet sentry guard at the restaurant's entrance.

Brunch at the Lamplight Lounge
The popular Lamplight Lounge at Disney California Adventure debuted a new brunch offering this weekend. Brunch is only served on Saturday and Sunday at this time, from 8:15 a.m. to noon. This is not a character meal, so don't expect to cozy up with a Pixar Pal or princess during your meal.

The brunch menu seems to be a logical extension of the lunch and dinner menus, with the same culinary flair. Dishes include New York Avocado Toast, Crab & Potato Cake Benedict, Lamplight Chilaquiles, and a Brunch Burger topped with a fried egg and roasted green chiles. A kids menu includes French toast and a mini brunch burger.
You can start your morning with a mimosa flight or a “beermosa,” or opt for non-alcoholic beverages, including brewed Joffrey's coffee, hot chocolate, or juices.
Adult entrées range from $17 to $28, with adult drinks starting at $10. Even though isn't an inexpensive breakfast option, reservations are already booked out until June 29. That said, remember that this restaurant does not offer 100% of its tables for advance reservations, so it's worth checking to see if walk-ins can be accommodated.
Once more, with details: Celebrating the Haunted Mansion's 50th anniversary

As we shared last week, Disneyland will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the iconic Haunted Mansion attraction with a pair of merchandise special events in August. Disney briefly posted details about the parties on an event website, but then the information mysteriously vanished. Disney posted an update early last week, and registration opened on time last Thursday.
The events are scheduled for August 7–8 and August 8–9, 2019. Each party begins with event sign-in on day 1, and a midnight-to-4:00 a.m. party on day 2. Tickets are $299 per person, with a purchase limit of one ticket per person, per event night.
Day 1 of each event begins with sign-in and merchandise pickup at the Disneyland Hotel between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., where guests can also browse any remaining merchandise in an event store and take photos with themed backdrops. At 11:30 p.m., event guests can line up outside the Disneyland gates to await entry to the park at 12:01.

Following a 1:00 a.m. opening moment, the day 2 party runs until 4:00 a.m., and includes many attractions in New Orleans Square, Frontierland, Adventureland, and Critter Country. Select shops and eateries will have special event offerings, and there will be live entertainment throughout the park.
Event guests are encouraged to come in costume (subject to Disney guidelines) and pose for photos in front of themed backdrops.
This is primarily a merchandise special event, with over 200 collectible items, or “Estate Merchandise,” created for the event. The online catalog runs to six pages, which includes a special collection of items created for annual passholders. The extensive selection includes the usual assortment of shirts and pins with the event logo, but there are quite a few specialty items for the discerning collectors.

Among the more unusual items are a one-of-a-kind acoustic guitar decorated with Haunted Mansion images, listed at $33,000 (there's also an electric guitar version for $13,000). The artisans at Daniels Wood Land have a collection of figures and plaques, starting at $2,100, that are carved from reclaimed redwood.
Also novel, but decidedly more affordable, is the Host a Ghost program. For $60, an event guest can become a “caretaker” of one of the Haunted Mansion's famous residents, including the Hatbox Ghost, a Hitchhiking Ghost, the Bride, or one of the bride's accident-prone husbands. Madame Leota will capture the spirit of the selected ghost in a glass jar and package it in a collectible box with a certificate.

Popular Disney collaborators Dave Avanzino, Jerrod Maruyama, Miss Mindy, the Harveys, and more will have new pieces for this event. Fashion accessories are well-represented within this collection, starting with a new Disney Dress Shoppe release patterned with the Haunted Mansion wallpaper. Three new Dooney and Bourke handbags bear the Haunted Mansion 50th anniversary logo, and jewelry from Pandora and Alex & Ani help round out the ensemble. Imagineer Kim Irvine has even designed a Haunted Mansion headband for this collection, part of the Disney Parks Designer Collection announced last week.

Well-heeled collectors may be interested in original Haunted Mansion artwork by pop culture artist SHAG, offered at $25,000, but the image will also appear on a whole collection of merchandise with more modest price points, including $15 drinking glasses, a $25 coaster set and a $28 home decor pillow.
In fact, many of the original art pieces created for this event will be sold in limited-edition or open edition formats, allowing those who can't drop $6,000 or more on an original painting to own a limited edition canvas print of the work for $400, a smaller art print for $40, or even a postcard of the image for $5.

Most of the limited edition items will be offered to event guests using Disney's Random Selection Process, in which guests select the items they'd like to purchase and Disney's system distributes the available quantity among the interested customers. However, in a Disney Parks Blog article, event programming manager Michelle Harker says that many of these items will debut at the Haunted Mansion event, but are not necessarily exclusive to the event. “Should quantities of any of those items remain you can expect to find them in locations at both Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort following the event.” In fact, one item from the event catalog—the OtterBox phone case featuring Madame Leota—has already been released at the Disneyland Resort.

When the event was officially announced, some potential guests balked at Disney's purchase limit of one ticket per person, per event night, which meant couples, families and groups hoping to attend together would have to purchase their own tickets in different transactions. People said they were hesitant to buy a ticket for themselves without being able to ensure that their spouse or friend could also attend.
With tickets still available five days after registration opened, it's reasonably safe to assume that groups who want to get tickets to go together will be able to do so. However, the fact that tickets are still available points to potential issues with the event itself. The 50th anniversary of the Haunted Mansion is a big deal for some Disney fans, but this event is much more about the merchandise than it is the experience of the Mansion. Disney clearly expected enough interest in this event that they planned two consecutive dates, but it seems the demand for a $300, three-hour, pre-dawn party was much less than hoped. Hopefully Disney will release additional details about the event that can help justify the $300 ticket price for those who aren't just in it for the merchandise.

We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don't get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.

Everyone
Purchase with purchase offers – Disneyland Resort shops frequently offer a reduced-price souvenir (often a tote bag, watch, or blanket) with a qualifying minimum purchase. These are offered at Disney-operated stores only, and selection may vary by location.
Disney usually allows customers to purchase more than one of the offers in a qualifying transaction, so if you spend $40 or more you can buy both items currently available if you wish. If you're a passholder, the minimum purchase is calculated after your discount, and your discount does not apply to the promotional item.
Character dining vouchers – Disneyland is no longer offering tickets or vouchers to be pre-purchased for Character Dining. You may still make reservations 60 days in advance with payment due at the restaurant.
Annual Passholders
Disneyland Resort merchandise – Disneyland has once again extended the additional 20% merchandise discount offered to Disney Signature Plus, Disney Signature, Disney Premier, and Premium annual passholders, this time through December 31, 2019. Character meet-and-greet at Disney California Adventure – cardholders have access to a private character meet-and-greet photo opportunity at Disney California Adventure, and receive one free image download per visit.
Star Wars Imperial meet-and-greet at Disneyland – cardholders have access to a private character meet-and-greet photo opportunity in the Star Tours Launch Bay in Tomorrowland. Offered daily from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. Darth Vader is once again the character featured at this location.
Disneyland Resort merchandise – Cardholders also receive 10% off qualifying merchandise purchases of $50 or more from Disney-operated retail stores.

Disneyland Resort Military Discounts
Ticket discounts
Through December 18, 2019, active and retired U.S. military personnel (including active and retired members of the United States Coast Guard, National Guard and Reservists) or their spouses can purchase:
- Disney Military Promotional 3-Day Park Hopper Tickets for $178 each (an increase of $10 from the 2018 offer)
- Disney Military Promotional 4-Day Park Hopper Tickets for $198 each (an increase of $10 from the 2018 offer)
Disneyland tickets may be used through December 18, 2019, excluding the spring break blockout of April 14–22, 2019.
Active and retired U.S. military personnel can purchase Disney Military Promotional Tickets for themselves and up to five additional family members or friends. No more than six Disney Military Promotional Tickets may be purchased by any eligible member of the U.S. military (or spouse) pursuant to this offer. All tickets and options are non-transferable and must be used by December 18, 2019.
Hotel discounts
Military discounts are valid for stays most nights from January 1 through December 19, 2019. Travel must be completed by December 20, 2019.
Disney does not publish the actual discounted rates, and instead asks eligible U.S. military personnel to call (714) 520-7088 to check pricing, availability and to make reservations. In past years, the offer was generally 30% to 40% off, based on room category.
Unlike the Walt Disney World version, the Disneyland offer allows the eligible service member to book up to two rooms, and allows their spouse (with valid and proper ID) to qualify in the absence of the service member.
Photopass Discount
Eligible service members can purchase the Photopass Collection for $49 plus tax through December 21, 2019. The package includes digital downloads of all PhotoPass photos in the user's account when they redeem the voucher; a voucher for a dining print package, and a Disneyland photo disc with 350 stock photos from around the Disneyland Resort.

Here are some other details you should know about regarding the offers:
- Disney Military Promotional Tickets may be purchased at participating U.S. military sales outlets ONLY by Eligible Service Members (defined below) or their spouses (but not both), for use by themselves and other family members and friends, as provided herein. These Tickets may not be otherwise transferred, distributed or resold.
- Eligible Service Members are active or retired members of the U.S. military, including the National Guard, Reservists, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Commissioned Corps of the Public Health Service (PHS), and the Commissioned Corps of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
- The actual prices charged at the individual U.S. military base ticket offices for Disney Military Promotional Tickets may be less than the prices set forth above.
- Participating military sales outlets must require that Eligible Service Members (or their spouses) present valid military identification to purchase Disney Military Promotional Tickets.
- Disney 3-Day or 4-Day Military Promotional Tickets for admission to the Disneyland Resort expire and may not be used after December 19, 2019. Valid military identification will be required for purchase and use.
- No more than six (6) Disney Military Promotional Tickets may be purchased and (if applicable) activated by any Eligible Service Member or spouse (regardless of the place of purchase and whether purchased by that person or that person’s spouse). In addition, one of the six (6) tickets purchased must be used by the Eligible Service Member or his/her spouse.
- Each Disney Military Promotional Ticket must be used by the same person on any and all days.
- The Photopass Collection can be purchased only in person at Kingswell Camera Shop in Disney California Adventure, or at Main Street Photo Supply in Disneyland.
Hotel & Travel Packages
Costco Travel Packages – many different travel packages including visits to Disneyland and Disneyland hotels are available through Costco.
Disney's Resort Magic and Good Neighbor Magic Packages – these package includes accommodations in one of the three resort hotels or at one of 40 Good Neighbor hotels, along with theme park admission. The packages also come with a variety of extra inclusions and bonuses, usually a souvenir pin and lanyard, and discount coupons for various Downtown Disney merchants.
