Adorable Snowman Frosted Treats opens
A sudden Southern California heat wave provided the perfect environment for a surprise early opening of the Adorable Snowman Frosted Treats stand in Disney California Adventure. The location is a refresh of the Paradise Pier Ice Cream Company, near the entrance of the yet-to-open Pixar Pier.

The stand takes its name and theme from Monster's Inc., and features a new signature item—non-dairy lemon soft-serve, something like a lemon version of a Dole Whip. Available in a cone or cup, dipped in white chocolate or swirled with blue raspberry slush, this new flavor seems to be a hit with Disney fans, and prompted long lines all weekend as Disney fans gathered to sample the new offering.

The opening day menu:
- Cones/cups (small $3.79; large $4.99) – chocolate, vanilla, or non-dairy lemon soft serve
- Pixar Pier Frosty Parfait ($5.99) – non-dairy lemon soft serve swirled with blue raspberry
- Snow-capped lemon ($4.59) – non-dairy lemon soft serve dipped in white chocolate
- Root beer float ($5.49)
- Fountain soda (small $3.59; large $3.99) – Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, Root beer, Orange Fanta, Minute Maid Light Lemonade

The Cove Bar is still open through May 29, when it closes for its final transformation into the Luxo Lounge.
Meet the Redhead
When Pirates of the Caribbean reopens on June 8, New Orleans Square will welcome a new visitor, “a fierce and independent pirate known as Redd,” according to the Disney Parks Blog. Not only will this new redhead join the revised auction scene inside the ride, she will also take to the streets around the attraction in an all-new meet-and-greet.

On a related note, we wonder if naming this character “Redd” means we've seen the end of Redd Rockett, the purported proprietor of Tomorrowland's Pizza Port. That restaurant received a Little Green Alien retheme as part of Pixar Fest, and we previously speculated that the temporary overlay might in fact turn into a permanent change.
Tickets still available for second Disneyland After Dark Star Wars night
Tickets are still available for the second Disneyland After Dark Star Wars Celebration event, taking place this Wednesday, May 9.
Attendees can ride Hyperspace Mountain, see the March of the First Order (new to Disneyland), get some face time with Rey at new (to Disneyland) meet-and-greet, and enjoy a galactic dance party.
There will also be themed entertainment at locations around the park, meet-and-greets, and “character encounters.” Disney's PhotoPass department will again be a key player in the event, and admission includes free digital downloads of the PhotoPass photos taken during the event. Attendees are encouraged to wear costumes, although the same guidelines apply to this event as they do for the Halloween parties.
The event runs from 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., with ticket holders being allowed to enter Disneyland as early as 6:00 p.m. In addition to Hyperspace Mountain, select Disneyland rides—including Star Tours – The Adventures Continue, “it's a small world,” Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Matterhorn Bobsleds, and Jungle Cruise—will open for the event.
Tickets to this after-hours event are $95 per person, ages 3 and up, and do not include parking. No discounts apply. Tickets are available via the event website.

This and that…
…Grad Nites are scheduled this Friday and Saturday nights, May 11 and 12. For 2018, the event includes park-hopper access to both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure parks during regular operating hours, and a private party in Disney California Adventure from 10:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. after that park closes to “day guests.”
…Disney has filed permits to begin demolition of the “It's Tough to be a Bug” theater. The movie attraction closed permanently on March 19, 2018. The theater, and the adjoining Bugs Land area, will be used in the upcoming Marvel-themed expansion of Disney California Adventure.

…Disney has also filed the first permits for the planned demolition of the ESPN Zone, Rainforest Cafe and AMC Theaters buildings in Downtown Disney. Each of the businesses in these buildings is scheduled to close by June 30, as Disney begins construction of a fourth hotel on the west side of Downtown Disney.
…Pirates of the Caribbean is scheduled to reopen on Friday, June 8, following the refurbishment to update the auction scene.

- Pirates of the Caribbean – closed for refurbishment as of April 23. Reopens Friday, June 8.

Disney California Adventure
- World of Color – closes for refurbishment on April 13. No reopening date is available at this time, but Disney says the show will reopen in “late June.”
- Cove Bar – location reopened for Spring Break, and will close again on May 29 as part of the Pixar Pier retheme.
The following attractions closed January 8 as part of the Pixar Pier retheme. Pixar Pier reopens June 23, and most of the locations will have new names when they return:

We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don't get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.

Southern California CityPASS |
Southern California CityPASS ($353/$324) – includes a 3-Day Disneyland Resort Park Hopper Bonus Ticket (including one early-entry day), a one-day admission to Sea World San Diego, and a one-day admission to LEGOLAND California. The CityPASS expires 14 days after first use at any location, and the first use must occur by December 31, 2018. Purchase CityPASS through the Disneyland website or on-site at the ticket booths of Disneyland Resort or the other theme parks included in the pass. You can also purchase directly from the CityPASS website, though a shipping charge may apply depending on how quickly you need the ticket. When you purchase the CityPASS, you have the option of adding a one-day admission to either San Diego Zoo or San Diego Safari Park for an extra $44/$36. This upgraded pass is only available for purchase directly from the CityPASS website. You can also upgrade your CityPASS to add more days at participating locations:

Purchase with Purchase offers – Disneyland Resort shops frequently offer a reduced–price souvenir (often a tote bag, watch, or blanket) with a qualifying minimum purchase. These are offered at Disney-operated stores only, and selection may vary by location. Disney usually allows customers to purchase more than one of the offers in a qualifying transaction, so if you spend $40 or more you can buy both items currently available if you wish. If you're a passholder, the minimum purchase is calculated after your discount, and your discount does not apply to the promotional item. Current offers:
Landry's Select Club – members of the Landry's Select Club get priority seating at the Rainforest Cafe when available (which makes a huge difference on busy days). This club replaces the former Rainforest Cafe Safari Club, and runs on a point-based system that gives you a $25 gift certificate after you spend $250. Membership now costs $25, but comes with a $25 birthday reward. We recommend that you pre-purchase your membership before your visit so you can take advantage of the priority seating benefit. ESPNZone MVP Club – membership in the MVP Club does not offer any discounts on food. However, once a member you can make an online reservation for your party up to three days in advance and will get a 25 percent increase in points purchased when playing games in the Sports Arena (and 40 bonus points at activation). You must register online and your membership card will then be mailed to you within two weeks. The card must then be activated at any ESPNZone by the person who signed up for the card and ID will be required (link). Southern California residents can visit the Disneyland Resort theme parks multiple days before May 24, 2018 for as little as $159 with the 2018 So Cal Resident ticket. The 2-Day So Cal Resident 1-Park Per Day ticket offers residents of Southern California and Northern Baja California admission to either Disneyland or Disney California Adventure on one day, and then a second visit to either park on another day on or before May 24. You can use both days of this ticket at the same theme park, or visit one park one day and the other park on the second day, but you cannot use it to enter both parks on the same day. The ticket is $159 for ages 3 and up, a discount of 20% compared to box office prices and a $10 increase from the 2017 promotion. You can also upgrade the ticket to a park-hopper, which allows entry to both parks each day, for an additional $45, a savings of up to $40 compared to the box office price of a two-day park-hopper ticket. If you want an extra day to visit the parks, there is also a 3-Day 1-Park per Day option ($199) and a 3-Day Park Hopper ticket ($244) in the promotion. You can either purchase tickets at the Disneyland Resort ticket booths, or online at Disneyland.com and print them at home. You can also purchase them by calling (714) 781-4636. If purchased in advance of arrival, the three-day tickets include one Magic Morning admission. This benefit does not come with tickets purchased at the theme park ticket booths, so make sure to order online and print at home before you arrive. If purchasing at a participating third party ticket outlet, double-check that their 3-day tickets come with this feature. There is no “fuse” on this ticket, which means you can use the first admission today and wait until May to use the second (or third) admission. You must, however, purchase the ticket by May 21, 2018. Tickets expire May 24, 2018, and are blocked out March 23 through April 8, 2018. |
