Bob Iger returns as Disney CEO
The Walt Disney Company announced Sunday night that Bob Iger is returning to his former role as CEO effective immediately, replacing Bob Chapek at the helm.
The social media landscape being what it is at the moment, many regarded the initial reports as a hoax before the Walt Disney Company posted a press release confirming the news. In the statement, the company said Iger “has agreed to serve as Disney’s CEO for two years, with a mandate from the Board to set the strategic direction for renewed growth and to work closely with the Board in developing a successor to lead the Company at the completion of his term.”
Susan Arnold, Chairman of the Board, said, “We thank Bob Chapek for his service to Disney over his long career, including navigating the company through the unprecedented challenges of the pandemic.”
“The Board has concluded that as Disney embarks on an increasingly complex period of industry transformation, Bob Iger is uniquely situated to lead the Company through this pivotal period.”

In an email to colleagues, Iger shared that he was returning to his former role “with an incredible sense of gratitude and humility—and, I must admit, a bit of amazement.”
Bob Iger served as CEO until February 2020, when he passed the role to Chapek. Iger remained on the board as executive chairman until October 2021.
Within an hour, Bob Iger was the trending topic on Twitter, with Disney fans and celebrities alike sharing their thoughts.
I don't think I've ever been so happy. Welcome home @RobertIger ❤️❤️❤️- the GOAT is back!!!!

Mickey's Toontown sets 2023 reopening date
Mickey's Toontown reopens on March 8, 2023, Disney announced last week. The land has been closed since March 9 this year for a major redevelopment and construction of the new Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway attraction.
The Walt Disney Imagineering pavilion at the 2022 D23 Expo included a scale model of portions of Mickey's Toontown, showing a new look for its downtown area and Goofy and Donald's houses.
Downtown Toontown sees the former bandstand demolished and replaced with an outdoor seating area that serves as a dining patio of Cafe Daisy. It appears that all of the Toontown eateries will now operate as one, and there's a mobile order pickup window clearly visible on the model. Downtown is also the site of the new El CapiTOON Theater, which serves as the entrance to Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway.
Concept art for the new attraction's queue shows an interactive play area similar to the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train attraction at the Magic Kingdom.

On the residential side of town, Chip and Dale have lost their treehouse, and Gadget has lost naming rights to the roller coaster. Chip ‘n’ Dale’s GADGETcoaster is the ride's new name. Next door, Donald's Boat as been re-imagined as a water play area, which neighbor Goofy is running as some sort of home-based candy factory. Goofy's How-to-Play yard is full of active play areas where kids can run off some energy while their parents try to regain theirs. The fenced play area is next to the land's new park, with a shady “dreaming tree” and grassy areas for families to sit.

Disneyland briefly unlocks Magic Key sales
The wishes of some Disney fans were answered when Disneyland briefly reopened new sales of Magic Key passes last Wednesday, just in time for the holiday gift-giving season. Three levels of Magic Keys went on sale at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 16, with Disney giving just 30 minutes notice of the pending sale.
Hopeful buyers got in line—in person and virtual—to purchase passes. Social media posts showed long lines outside the Disneyland ticket booths by Wednesday afternoon, with some readers reporting waiting in the virtual queue for nearly 18 hours to buy tickets online.
By Thursday morning, Disney suspended sales of the Believe Key, and warned that availability of the remaining two Keys was extremely limited. By Thursday afternoon, Disney halted sales of all new Magic Keys, saying, “We have stopped sales of new passes at this time to help protect the experience for Magic Key holders and the value those passes provide.”
One reader said he was in the middle of typing in his credit card information online when the sale ended (he called Disney and was eventually able to complete his purchase).
Disney also told current passholders that, “renewals for current Magic Key holders within their renewal window (up to 30 days before pass expiration) will continue for all available pass types (Inspire, Believe, Enchant and Imagine) at this time.”
When Disneyland rolled out a new Magic Key program three months ago, the company said they were focused only on renewals of existing Magic Key holders, and would not sell new keys at that time. We expected Disney wanted to see how many passholders actually renewed their Magic Keys under the new program.
Now that the majority of Magic Key holders have reached their anniversary dates, Disney had a good picture of their renewal trends, and clearly felt that there was room to bring more people into the program. We don't know how many new passes the company made available, or if they expected them to sell this quickly. We also have no idea when or if the company will reopen sales, but don't expect it to happen again this calendar year.

We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

Current Discounts and Promotions
Disneyland prices as of October 11, 2022.
Note: MousePlanet does not edit past Updates to reflect price increases; for up-to-date prices, check the most recent Disneyland Resort Update. Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!
This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don't get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.
