Disneyland Resort Update for November 4 – November 10, 2019
News and Views
It's Transformation week, as the Holidays arrive Friday
The Holidays officially arrive this Friday, as the Merriest Place on Earth debuts a new season of winter decor and entertainment. The giant Mickey pumpkin had no sooner left Town Square when the Resort Enhancement team moved in with the first truckload of garlands for Main Street, U.S.A. This is always a fun week to visit the parks, as you can watch both Disneyland and DCA transform from Halloween to Christmas in just a few short days.
Friday, November 8 is the first performance of A Christmas Fantasy Parade at Disneyland, scheduled for 3:30 and 6:00 p.m. The night is capped with the first performance of the Believe… In Holiday Magic fireworks at 9:30 p.m.
The Festival of Holidays begins Friday at Disney California Adventure, with the Festive Foods Marketplace booths open for business. Disney hasn't released the menus for the 12 booths yet, but when they do, you can find them on this page of the Disneyland website.
World of Color – Season of Light returns to Paradise Gardens Park on Friday, with performances at 9:00 and 10:15 p.m. The show was not presented in 2018 due to an extended, unplanned refurbishment of the World of Color show system.
If you'd like to bring a little holiday spirit to your home or office before your next visit to the Merriest Place on Earth, you can listen to the Disney's Festival of the Holidays playlist via Apple Music. The selection of 25 songs played in Disney California Adventure includes music for Christmas, Hanukkah, Diwali, Kwanzaa, and Three Kings' Day.
Star Tours heading to Kef Bir
I overlooked this tidbit when it was first announced, but starting December 20, all four versions of Star Tours – The Adventures Continue will include a new potential destination. In the most recent trailers for the upcoming movie Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, we see the ruins of a Death Star bobbing along in an ocean. Now Disney has officially named the ocean moon Kef Bir, and said it will be a new stop on the Star Tours itinerary.
This will not be the first time Disney has used a Star Speeder as a promotional vehicle. New scenes and characters were added in 2015 and 2017 to promote Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi. And of course, thousands got their first look at the “remote outpost on the galaxy’s edge” when Batuu—the setting for Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge lands in Disneyland and Walt Disney World—was added as a surprise destination in 2017.
Celebrate Lunar New Year Jan. 17 to Feb. 9
Disney California Adventure will host the Lunar New Year celebration starting January 17, 2020 and running through February 9. The 24-day celebration straddles the actual holiday on Saturday, January 25, which will likely be a fairly busy day at the park.
As this is the Year of the Mouse, it's probably safe to expect a larger merchandise selection than in prior years.
Disney has confirmed that Mulan’s Lunar New Year Procession will return for 2020. The procession was moved to the World of Color viewing area in Paradise Gardens Park last year, providing room for more people to enjoy the popular show.
We should note that opening day for Lunar New Year celebration at Disney California Adventure is also the opening day of Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance at Disneyland, so expect January 17 to be pretty busy in both parks.
Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival returns Feb. 28 to Apr. 21
The popular Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival will return February 28 to April 21, 2020. Disney did not provide many details in their “save the date” announcement, but confirmed that the Sip and Savor pass will return for 2020. We'll share additional details as Disney releases them, including registration information for any special events or classes.
It's time to make New Year's Eve reservations
New Year's Eve is one of the busiest nights of the year at the Disneyland Resort, and dining reservations are essential if you want to enjoy anything more formal than a curbside corn dog while waiting for the midnight fireworks.
Dinner reservations are already booked solid at some of the most popular locations, including the late night dinner & gala at the Napa Rose, but there are lots of great options for everything from a family dinner to a romantic evening for two.
For couples seeking a special setting, you can still book the early seating for the Napa Rose New Year's Eve dinner. The early dinner is $140 per person, and includes a four-course menu by chef Andrew Sutton. We also recommend Steakhouse 55 at the Disneyland Hotel, the Lamplight Lounge inside Disney California Adventure, or Catal Restaurant in Downtown Disney. All of these locations had dinner openings at press time.
Buffet-style meals are good for groups and families with younger children—check out family-friendly options at Goofy's Kitchen at the Disneyland Hotel, Storyteller's Cafe at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel, and PCH Grill at the Paradise Pier Hotel. For in-park dining, Carnation Cafe, River Belle Terrace, and Wine Country Trattoria all had availability for parties up to six for New Year's Eve dinner.
Star Wars fans could opt to celebrate the new year (or whatever the equivalent local holiday may be) at Oga's Cantina inside Disneyland. The bar had a surprising number of open reservations at press time, including room for a party of six at 10:55 p.m., the last reservation of the night. Perhaps the 45-minute limit has fans seeking another place to celebrate the new sun.
If you'd prefer to have your big meal at lunch and save the evening for entertainment, your options open up a bit more. The popular Blue Bayou restaurant has tables open for lunch for parties of 4 or fewer, as does the Carnation Cafe and River Belle Terrace. This lets you nibble your way through the Festival of Holidays booths at Disney California Adventure, or snack on a corn dog as you save your Castle-view spot for the Countdown to Midnight at Disneyland.
The special Plaza Inn New Year’s Eve Fireworks Spectacular Dining Package is sold out, but you can still book the special dining package that includes reserved viewing for A Christmas Fantasy Parade. That package is $40 per person, $25 per child, plus tax. If you're just looking only to dine, the restaurant is walk-up friendly, but you should plan to dine before 4:00 or after 7:00 to avoid the largest crowds.
If you want to celebrate in Disney California Adventure, you can book the World of Color dessert party for New Years Eve. The package is $84 per person, and includes a dessert sampler and sparkling beverages.
Disneyland updates Galaxy's Edge menus
Two weeks ago, Walt Disney World updated menus to remove most of the themed food names from the Florida versions of Black Spire Outpost restaurants, and replaced them with their common English names. So the Fried Endorian Tip-Yip was billed simply as fried chicken, and the Smoked Kaadu Ribs became smoked pork ribs. Some fans complained about the loss of theme on the menus, while others were simply glad to be able to order without learning a new language.
At the time it looked like Disneyland would hold on to the themed foods names, but last week Docking Bay 7 rolled out a new menu with updated entree names. Instead of removing the theming entirely, the new titles incorporate the English ingredients. You can now order Endorian Fried Chicken Tip-Yip or Smoked Kaadu Pork Ribs, along with a Felucian Kefta & Hummus Garden Spread.
Beverages retain their theme names, and you'll need to refer to the description to know what Moof Juice or Phattro are made from.
The new menu names are posted at the location, and appear on the Disneyland website and app.
Fuel Rod reverses swap change
Fuel Rod owners can continue to swap their devices at no charge from kiosks at Disneyland and Walt Disney World for now, as the company has decided to hold off on implementing a $3 swapping fee that was to have gone into effect on November 1.
The change came days after a class action lawsuit was filed in Southern California, on behalf of a plaintiff who purchased a Fuel Rod device at Walt Disney World.
Disney sells Fuel Rod charging kits for $30 from kiosks located throughout the Resort, each containing a rechargeable USB battery rod and an assortment of charging cables to fit most Apple and Android devices. Fuel Rod sells the device for $25 (including shipping) from their website, and other locations sell the kits for as low as $22.
The big selling point had been that once you purchased the initial $30 kit, you could return to any Fuel Rod kiosk on Disney property and exchange a depleted charger for a fresh battery as often as you needed at no additional charge. Updated signs placed on the kiosks in late October notified customers that the “free unlimited swapping” feature would end November 1, and users would pay a $3 fee each time they swapped the device.
Disney would not have been the first Fuel Rod partner to begin charging for swaps—both Sea World and Universal Studios have $3.00 exchange fees. It is unknown if those other locations had ever advertised free swapping, and/or when they began charging for the service. Likewise, it is unknown if the class action lawsuit will proceed now that the company has reversed their fee schedule, or if the ambiguity between “free” and “fee” swapping locations is enough to allow the case to proceed.

- Gay Days at Disneyland (unofficial event) – October 2-4, 2020. More information on the event website.
We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

Current Discounts and Promotions
Disneyland prices as of January 6, 2019.
Note: MousePlanet does not edit past Updates to reflect price increases; for up-to-date prices, check the most recent Disneyland Resort Update. Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!
This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don't get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.

Everyone
Purchase with purchase offers – Disneyland Resort shops frequently offer a reduced-price souvenir (often a tote bag, watch, or blanket) with a qualifying minimum purchase. These are offered at Disney-operated stores only, and selection may vary by location.
Disney usually allows customers to purchase more than one of the offers in a qualifying transaction, so if you spend $40 or more you can buy both items currently available if you wish. If you're a passholder, the minimum purchase is calculated after your discount, and your discount does not apply to the promotional item.
Character dining vouchers – Disneyland is no longer offering tickets or vouchers to be pre-purchased for Character Dining. You may still make reservations 60 days in advance with payment due at the restaurant.

Visit our Annual Passholders Blockout Dates page to see more dates. You can see future calendar schedules at Disneyland. As always, specifics are subject to change without notice (or occasionally, without us noticing) so when information conflicts between what is presented here and that presented by Disney, it is best to assume Disney's information is correct.
Visit the Park Hours section of our Disneyland Park guide for additional details about Magic Morning and Toontown Morning Madness, including available attractions. Entertainment schedule: Go directly to the Disneyland Resort schedule for this week at Disneyland.com here.
The Seasons calendar is published on the Disneyland website for the next eight to 11 months.
