Paint the Night and Pixar Play Parade to end before holiday season
It's time for the last elements of Pixar Fest to take a final bow, and Disney announced last week the Paint the Night parade and Pixar Play Parade will both end in November before the start of the Holidays at the Disneyland Resort promotion.
At Disneyland, the final performance of the Pixar Play Parade is Sunday, November 4. Disney California Adventure bids farewell to the Paint the Night parade on Wednesday, November 7.
The holiday season officially kicks off on Friday, November 9, with the first scheduled performance of A Christmas Fantasy Parade at 3:30 p.m. at Disneyland. The first performance of Believe…in Holiday Magic fireworks is at 9:30 p.m.
It's time to make Thanksgiving dinner reservations
If you are planning to visit the Disneyland Resort for the Thanksgiving holiday, now is the time to call and make reservations for your holiday feast. Some of the most popular restaurants have already booked solid, including Napa Rose and Steakhouse 55, but there are still plenty of options for your family gathering.
The headline holiday event is the Disneyland Hotel Thanksgiving meal, served from 11:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom of the Disneyland Hotel. This buffet-style meal features a variety of stations and cuisines, with a special section devoted to kid-friendly dishes. Disney characters roam the dining area during the meal, and photo opportunities around the hall provide an excellent location for a family holiday photo.
The cost is $120 per person age 10 and up, and $35 for children ages 3 through 9. Children under 3 are at no charge. The meal includes four hours of complimentary self-parking at the Disneyland Hotel. To make a reservation, call (714) 781-3463 or book online.
Another option is to start your day with a character breakfast or brunch at Storyteller's Cafe at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel, or Goofy's Kitchen at the Disneyland Hotel.
Inside the theme parks, Disneyland's Carnation Cafe and Cafe Orleans had dinner availability as of press time, and both locations have traditionally offered a Thanksgiving meal for the holiday. Plaza Inn also offers a holiday meal, though the special dining package that includes reserved viewing for A Christmas Fantasy Parade is already sold out for Thanksgiving. Not to worry; the restaurant is walk-up friendly, but you should plan to dine before 4 or after 7 to avoid the largest crowds.
For a (very) late dinner, dine under the stars in the Blue Bayou restaurant, and watch the Pirates of the Caribbean boats sail past.
If you're spending Thanksgiving in Disney California Adventure, consider making lunch your sit-down meal, and nibble your way through the Festival of Holidays booths during dinnertime. Early afternoon reservations are available at the Carthay Circle Restaurant or the new Lamplight Lounge.
Whatever you choose, book soon! Otherwise, you can always use the handy mobile ordering feature to skip the line when you pick up a turkey club sandwich from Flo's V8 Cafe.
The Earl returns this week
Popular Downtown Disney eatery Earl of Sandwich is scheduled to reopen this week, though the exact date is uncertain. The restaurant's website still shows Monday, October 1 as the big day, but its Facebook page removed an event promoting the reopening. The Orange County Register reports that the restaurant may open by Tuesday, but even that is uncertain.
When it does reopen for its limited engagement, the restaurant will still have some competition in the form of local food trucks. Disney has filed for a permit to install three electrical receptacles in front of the former AMC Theater building “to support food trucks.” This implies that the mobile eateries will become a much more permanent feature of Downtown Disney as the company plots its next move for the parcel, even with the Earl hanging out his shingle once again.

…Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room is scheduled to reopen this Wednesday following an extensive refurbishment of the entrance and lanai.
…The Annual Passport blockout calendar for September 2019 should be published this week, and we'll then know if holders of the Southern California Select pass will be able to visit Disneyland that month, or have to wait even longer for Disney to lift the blockout. Per the calendar currently published, the the Southern California Select pass is blocked out from Disneyland park starting Friday, May 31, and there is no indication when that restriction may lift. The pass is also blocked out at Disney California Adventure as of June 6 2019 for the typical summer blockout season, but is valid at DCA on most weekdays starting August 19.

We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don't get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.

Annual Pass Monthly Payment Program
California residents can take advantage of the monthly payment plan when purchasing any but the Premier Annual Passport.

Southern California CityPASS
Southern California CityPASS ($353/$324) – includes a 3-Day Disneyland Resort Park Hopper Bonus Ticket (including one early-entry day), a one-day admission to Sea World San Diego, and a one-day admission to LEGOLAND California. The CityPASS expires 14 days after first use at any location, and the first use must occur by December 31, 2018. Purchase CityPASS through the Disneyland website or on-site at the ticket booths of Disneyland Resort or the other theme parks included in the pass. You can also purchase directly from the CityPASS website, though a shipping charge may apply depending on how quickly you need the ticket.
When you purchase the CityPASS, you have the option of adding a one-day admission to either San Diego Zoo or San Diego Safari Park for an extra $44/$36. This upgraded pass is only available for purchase directly from the CityPASS website.
You can also upgrade your CityPASS to add more days at participating locations:
- Add a second day at LEGOLAND for $25. Purchase this upgrade at LEGOLAND on the day you use your CityPASS.
- Add LEGOLAND Water Park for $30 for ages 3+ ($5 for ages 2 and under). Purchase this upgrade at LEGOLAND on the day you use your CityPASS.
- Upgrade your Disneyland ticket to another ticket or annual passport of equal or greater value. For the current Southern California CityPASS, a credit of $330 for ages 10+ ($314 for ages 3-9) will be applied toward another ticket of equal or greater value. Purchase the upgrade at Disneyland before the end of your third visit.

Everyone
Purchase with Purchase offers – Disneyland Resort shops frequently offer a reduced–price souvenir (often a tote bag, watch, or blanket) with a qualifying minimum purchase. These are offered at Disney-operated stores only, and selection may vary by location.
Disney usually allows customers to purchase more than one of the offers in a qualifying transaction, so if you spend $40 or more you can buy both items currently available if you wish. If you're a passholder, the minimum purchase is calculated after your discount, and your discount does not apply to the promotional item.

Character Meet-and-Greet at Disney California Adventure – cardholders have access to a private character meet-and-greet photo opportunity at Disney California Adventure, and receive one free image download per visit.

Disneyland Resort Military Discounts
Ticket discounts
Through December 16, 2018, active and retired U.S. military personnel (including active and retired members of the United States Coast Guard, National Guard and Reservists) or their spouses can purchase:
- Disney Military Promotional 3-Day Park Hopper Tickets for $168 each (an increase of $12 from the 2017 offer)
- Disney Military Promotional 4-Day Park Hopper Tickets for $188 each (an increase of $7 from the 2017 offer)
Disneyland tickets may be used through December 19, 2018. There are no remaining blockout dates for 2018.
Active and retired U.S. military personnel can purchase Disney Military Promotional Tickets for themselves and up to five additional family members or friends. No more than six Disney Military Promotional Tickets may be purchased by any eligible member of the U.S. military (or spouse) pursuant to this offer. All tickets and options are non-transferable and must be used by December 19, 2018.
Hotel discounts
This offer is valid most nights from January 1 through December 19, 2018. There are no further blockout dates in 2018.
Disney does not publish the actual discounted rates, and instead asks eligible U.S. military personnel to call (714) 520-7088 to check pricing, availability and to make reservations. In past years, the offer was generally 30-40% off, based on room category.
Unlike the Walt Disney World version, the Disneyland offer allows the eligible service member to book up to two rooms, and allows their spouse (with valid and proper ID) to qualify in the absence of the service member.
Photopass Discount
Eligible service members can purchase the Photopass Collection for $49 plus tax through December 19, 2018. The package includes digital downloads of all PhotoPass photos in the user's account when they redeem the voucher; a voucher for a dining print package, and a Disneyland photo disc with 350 stock photos from around the Disneyland Resort.

Here are some other details you should know about regarding the offers:
- Disney Military Promotional Tickets may be purchased at participating U.S. military sales outlets ONLY by Eligible Service Members (defined below) or their spouses (but not both), for use by themselves and other family members and friends, as provided herein. These Tickets may not be otherwise transferred, distributed or resold.
- Eligible Service Members are active or retired members of the U.S. military, including the National Guard, Reservists, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Commissioned Corps of the Public Health Service (PHS), and the Commissioned Corps of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
- The actual prices charged at the individual U.S. military base ticket offices for Disney Military Promotional Tickets may be less than the prices set forth above.
