One Disneyland Resort cast member killed, one wounded in Las Vegas attack
In the aftermath of last Sunday night's mass shooting in Las Vegas, the Walt Disney Company confirmed that one employee from the Disneyland Resort was among the 58 people killed, and that another employee was injured. Disney CEO Bob Iger issued a statement last Monday evening regarding the two women:
“Our hearts go out to everyone impacted by the tragic events in Las Vegas—the victims of violence, the witnesses, and the friends and families mourning loved ones. We are especially heartbroken over the loss of one of our own to this unconscionable and senseless act. Carrie Barnette had been a member of the Disney California Adventure culinary team for ten years and was beloved by her friends and colleagues. Our thoughts are with her family, along with our support, during this incredibly difficult time. Another valued Disney cast member, Jessica Milam, was also seriously injured and we are praying for her recovery.”
Disneyland Resort President Michael Colglazier also issued the following statement:
“We mourn the loss of our Cast Member, Carrie Barnette, and we offer our most heartfelt condolences to her family, fellow Cast Members, friends and loved ones as well as all who were affected by this senseless act.”

Anna and Elsa depart Downtown Disney
With Frozen frenzy thawing somewhat, Disney has quietly re-themed Anna & Elsa's Boutique in Downtown Disney to remove the royal sisters and their makeover studio. The renamed Dream Boutique still caters to the 3-to-12 set, offering a wide array of clothing and costumes themed to the Disney Princesses. Gone is the transformation station, which offered royal makeovers to girls and boys.
Makovers are still available inside Disneyland at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, which has recently added two Frozen-themed packages to their services. Packages start at $64.95, and appointments are available up to 60 days in advance by calling (714) 781-7895.
Elsewhere in Downtown Disney, Chapel Hats, Fossil and Vault 28 have all closed. The Chapel Hats space will eventually be used for additional dining offerings, but at least through the holiday season the space will be used as a temporary retail home for Vault 28's The Dress Shop line. The combined Vault 28 and Fossil spaces will be used for the new Star Wars virtual reality offering.
Canyon fire impacts Disneyland air quality
A brush fire burning in the hills approximately 15 miles east of the Disneyland Resort turned the skies above the Happiest Place on Earth a dramatic orange Monday, as smoke and ash from the fire drifted towards the city of Anaheim. Disneyland and Disney California Adventure kept to their posted operating hours, but some outdoor concessions and rides closed. Posting on social media, many park visitors cut their Columbus Day holiday visit short due to poor air quality.
At press time, the fire—known as Canyon Fire 2—had grown to 6,000 acres, and burned 24 structures. Over 5,000 homes are under mandatory evacuation, and many local schools are closed, through at least Tuesday.

This and that…
…Disney has confirmed that the Jingle Cruise holiday overlay of Adventureland's Jungle Cruise attraction will not return for the 2017 holiday season. There was no explanation given for why the seasonal overlay, which debuted in 2013, is taking a hiatus. The Jingle Cruise will return to Walt Disney World in Florida this year.
…Disney has posted the audition schedule for the 2018 All-America College Band. Online applications are accepted through the end of November, and walk-up auditions will be held at six locations across the country in January and February, 2018. …Reservations open today for the “Holiday Time at the Disneyland Resort” guided tour, which begins Friday, November 10. The cost is $85 per person, with a 15 percent discount offered to Disneyland Resort annual passholders. Call (714) 781-8687 to reserve the tour 30 days in advance of your requested date.

- “it's tough to be a bug” theater – closed October 23 to November 2 for refurbishment to host a preview of “Coco”
Disneyland Resort
- Splitsville Lanes – under construction in Downtown Disney. Expected to open late 2017.
- Build-a-Bear – announced to be closing in late September to make room for additional dining offerings. Now scheduled to remain open through the holiday season.
- Ridemakerz –announced to be closing September 18 to make room for additional dining offerings. Now scheduled to remain open through the holiday season, but with reduced operating hours. The store is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and closed Sundays and Wednesdays.
- Chapel Hats – now closed. While the space will eventually be used for additional dining offerings, the space will be used as a temporary retail home for Vault 28's The Dress Shop line through the holiday season.
- Vault 28 – now closed to make room for new Star Wars virtual reality offering.
- Fossil – now closed to make room for new Star Wars virtual reality offering.

- Pinocchio's Workshop (group childcare) – closed. The space will be converted to the hotel fitness center.

- Dapper Day Fall Outing to Disneyland (unofficial event) – Sunday, November 5. More information at the event website. This popular event grows larger each year, so it's worth making note of the date if you plan to visit the park during this weekend.
- Super Heroes Half Marathon Weekend – November 9–12. This event adds to the Veteran's Day weekend crowds. Registration is still open for some events via the runDisney website.

- Star Wars – The Light Side Half Marathon Weekend – Originally scheduled for January 11–14, 2018. Registration dates and details pending.

School Holidays

2017
- Utah Education Association convention (UEA, a.k.a. “Utah Escapes to Anaheim”) – October 19–20. Expect large attendance levels October 19–22 as Utah students and families take advantage of a 4-day weekend created by their school's participation in a state education convention. Not all Utah schools or teachers close for or attend UEA, but the impact on the Resort is usually noticeable enough to mention.
- Nevada Day – October 28. Nevada schools are closed on Friday, October 28 to observe Nevada Day, creating a three-day weekend.
We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don't get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency.

2017 Military Salute Offer Disney released details of its 2017 Military Salute offer for Disneyland and Walt Disney World last October, and the tickets are valid January 1 through April 8 and April 24 through December 19, 2017. At the time we first shared details of the offer, we did not know about (or Disney had not announced) a special PhotoPass promotion also available to military personnel. Through December 19, 2017, active and retired U.S. military personnel who are eligible for the Military Salute offer can also purchase the Disney PhotoPass Collection for $49, a discount of 50% over the usual $99 price. The Disney PhotoPass Collection includes digital downloads of all available PhotoPass photos linked to your account, a voucher for a dining print package and a Disneyland Resort Gallery Disc with 350 high-resolution professional photos from around Disneyland Resort. Southern California CityPASS |
Southern California CityPASS ($346/$314) – includes a 3-Day Disneyland Resort Park Hopper Bonus Ticket (including one early-entry day), a one-day admission to Sea World San Diego, and a one-day admission to LEGOLAND California. The CityPASS expires 14 days after first use at any location, and the first use must occur by December 31, 2017. Purchase CityPASS through the Disneyland website or on-site at the ticket booths of Disneyland Resort or the other theme parks included in the pass. You can also purchase directly from the CityPASS website, though a shipping charge may apply depending on how quickly you need the ticket. When you purchase the CityPASS, you have the option of adding a one-day admission to either San Diego Zoo or San Diego Safari Park for an extra $42/$34. This upgraded pass is only available for purchase directly from the CityPASS website. You can also upgrade your CityPASS to add more days at participating locations:

Purchase with Purchase offers – Disneyland Resort shops frequently offer a reduced–price souvenir (often a tote bag, watch, or blanket) with a qualifying minimum purchase. These are offered at Disney-operated stores only, and selection may vary by location. Recently, Disney has begun allowing customers to purchase more than one of the offers in a qualifying transaction, so if you spend $40 or more you can buy both items currently available if you wish. If you're a passholder, the minimum purchase is calculated after your discount, and your discount does not apply to the promotional item. Current offers:
Landry's Select Club – members of the Landry's Select Club get priority seating at the Rainforest Cafe when available (which makes a huge difference on busy days). This club replaces the former Rainforest Cafe Safari Club, and runs on a point-based system that gives you a $25 gift certificate after you spend $250. Membership now costs $25, but comes with a $25 birthday reward. We recommend that you prepurchase your membership before your visit so you can take advantage of the priority seating benefit. ESPNZone MVP Club – membership in the MVP Club does not offer any discounts on food. However, once a member you can make an online reservation for your party up to three days in advance and will get a 25 percent increase in points purchased when playing games in the Sports Arena (and 40 bonus points at activation). You must register online and your membership card will then be mailed to you within two weeks. The 3-Day So Cal Resident 1-Park Per Day ticket offers residents of Southern California and Northern Baja California admission to either Disneyland or Disney California Adventure on one day, and then a second visit to either park on another day on or before May 25, 2017. You can use both days of this ticket at the same theme park, or visit one park one day and the other park on the second day, but you cannot use it to enter both parks on the same day. The ticket is $149 for ages 3 and up. You can also upgrade this ticket to a 3-Day Park Hopper, which allows entry to both parks each day, for an additional $40, a savings of up to $106 compared to the box office price of a three-day park-hopper ticket. If purchased in advance of arrival, the three-day tickets include one Magic Morning admission. This benefit does not come with tickets purchased at the theme park ticket booths, so make sure to order online and print at home before you arrive. If purchasing at a participating third party ticket outlet, double-check that their 3-day tickets come with this feature. There is no “fuse” on this ticket, which means you can use the first admission today and wait until May to use the second (or third) admission. You must, however, purchase the ticket by May 22, 2017.
