[Our thoughts are with all of the MousePlanet staff, contributors, readers, family and friends who are in the Florida area during Hurricane Irma.]
Halloween Time begins Friday
Halloween Time starts this Friday, September 15, featuring a return of Halloween festivities at Disney California Adventure. The Haul-o-Ween decorations are taking over Cars Land, with new items installed daily. Looking at the decorations in the daylight, it's clear that there will be extra effects at night, making a return visit after sunset a must. Be sure to follow @MousePlanet on Twitter as we share images from a media tour of Haul-o-Ween Friday night.

Plaza de la Familia
Along with the Halloween Time events in Disney California Adventure, the Paradise Gardens area will be home to the Plaza de la Familia, a Día de los Muertos-themed offering featuring food, entertainment and activities.
The Grammy-award winning Mariachi Divas will perform as part of “A Musical Celebration of Coco,” a new entertainment offering scheduled to debut September 15. The show is led by Mateo, a “singing host,” and features performances of three songs from the upcoming Disney-Pixar film Coco. Showtimes are not yet on the Disneyland website, but cast members tell us there are five daily performances, on the hour, starting at 3:00 p.m.
Plaza de la Familia will also feature a new menu at the Paradise Garden Grill, a Tree of Life photo opportunity and additional performances by the Mariachi Divas.

Happiest Haunts tour
It looked as if Disney was going to cancel this offering this year, as it was not listed on the Disneyland website as recently as last week, but we now have dates and details of the 2017 Happiest Haunts Tour.
The “Ghost Relations” tour guides are back again to lead you on the Happiest Haunts tour of the Disneyland Resort. From Disney:
“This year, the guided tour is going back to the roots of Halloween, sharing ghost stories around Disneyland Park, searching for treats, encountering tricks—and even visiting a character from the Haunted Mansion!
You’ll learn about pranksters, spirits, characters—and their creators— from The Haunted Mansion and films throughout the years. It’s frightful fun you’ll never forget!”
The tour is $85 per person for guests age 3 and older. Annual Passholders and Disney Vacation Club Members receive a 15% discount. Cast members save on select dates only – check with Cast Activities for details.
The tour is offered daily between September 15 and October 31, and begins at 4:00 p.m. Theme park admission is not included. If you book a tour of a night Mickey’s Halloween Party is taking place, you will be escorted out of the park at the conclusion of the tour.
You can make reservations for Disney's Happiest Haunts 30 days in advance by calling the Guided Tour office at (714) 781-8687, or in person at Disneyland. Foreign language or sign language interpretation is available with advance notice.
Holiday events to run November 10 – January 7
Disney has officially announced the dates for Holidays at the Disneyland Resort. The festivities begin on Friday, November 10, which is good news for runners coming to Anaheim to participate in the Super Heroes Half Marathon weekend events, as well as those traveling to the Disneyland Resort for the Veteran's Day weekend. Disney says additional details will be announced in the coming weeks, but here is what was already confirmed for the season:
Disneyland
- Sleeping Beauty Winter Castle returns 2017
- “Believe … in Holiday Magic” fireworks
- “A Christmas Fantasy” parade
- “it’s a small world” Holiday
- Haunted Mansion Holiday
There was no mention of the Jingle Cruise overlay.
Disney California Adventure
- Festival of Holidays
- Disney ¡Viva Navidad!
- Festive Foods Marketplace
- “World of Color – Season of Light”
Even more Halloween Party nights sell out
As we get closer to the start of Halloween Time, more of the after-hours Mickey's Halloween Party events have sold out. As of this writing, all September events except September 20 are sold out. For October, only four weeknight events remain. The status of each event is as follows:
- Sold out – September 22, 25, 27 and 29; October 6, 10, 13, 20 and 27
- Available – September 20; October 3, 17, 24, and 31.
Tickets are available via Disneyland.com, at Disneyland ticket booths, or by calling (714) 781-4636.
All event nights are expected to sell out by the end of September if not earlier, and we expect the three remaining September nights to sell out this week. If you waited too long and are now scrambling to obtain tickets for your preferred event night, there is hope. Before you turn to Craigslist, StubHub, or eBay (all of which bring with them the very high risk of being defrauded), here are official ways you may still be able to buy legitimate party tickets directly from Disney:
- Call Disneyland and order tickets by phone – a limited number of tickets may be available by phone for events that are sold out online. Call (714) 781-4636 to purchase by phone. Expect to wait on hold for at least 10 minutes.
- Visit Disneyland and purchase tickets in person – a limited number of tickets may be available at the Disneyland ticket booths for events that are sold out online. However, if you tried to purchase tickets by phone and the night you wanted was sold out, they will not be available at the ticket booths.
- Disneyland Resort Hotels – if you are a guest staying at one of the three Disney-owned hotels (Disneyland Hotel, Paradise Pier Hotel, or Grand Californian Hotel), check with your hotel desk the morning of the event to see if they have tickets available for purchase. Last year, MousePlanet Community Leader Angela told us that a small number of tickets were reserved for Disneyland Resort Hotel guests, and were released for sale at 5:30 a.m. the morning of each party. Officially these tickets are intended only for concierge-level guests, but we've heard conflicting stories about that, and it seems some guests in standard rooms have been allowed to buy the tickets as well. If you're already staying on property, it does not hurt to ask. Angela warns that these tickets sell out very quickly, so don't wait until the party starts to try to make your purchase.
- Friends or family – if friends/family already have tickets, they may be able to purchase additional tickets the day of the party. Again, a small number of tickets are reserved for same-day sales to help accommodate ticket holders who may have miscounted how many they need, or who had friends/family unexpectedly join them. As with the tickets reserved for hotel guests, these are very limited, and go on sale as soon as the ticket booths open in the morning. If at all possible, get there first thing in the morning to increase your chance of getting tickets. You must have the other event tickets with you—the cast member needs to see them, and cannot just trust your word that “so-and-so already has tickets.”
Construction Land
It's been a while since we've peered over the road into the Star Wars Galaxy's Edge construction site. The “battle escape” ride building increasingly dominates the sight line, making it very difficult to see much beyond. The Millennium Falcon attraction building on the far left of the construction area is barely visible from this vantage.

This and that…
…Plaza Inn and Minnie and Friends Breakfast in the Park closes today for a brief refurbishment, and will reopen September 13. In Disney California Adventure, Smokejumpers Grill is also closed until September 13.
…Disney has filed permits to begin construction of the new Star Wars experience in Downtown Disney. As previously reported, the virtual reality offering will occupy a 2,683 sq. ft. space formed by merging the Vault 28 and Fossil stores in Downtown Disney. The exact closing dates for the stores is unknown at this time.
The Build-a-Bear location in Downtown Disney will remain open at least through Christmas, according to store employees. Photo by Adrienne Vincent-Phoenix.
…Even as Disney is moving forward on the Star Wars project, it looks like another Downtown Disney project may be on hold. We reported in July that Disney had declined to renew the leases for neighboring stores Build-a-Bear Workshop, Chapel Hats and Ridemakerz, and that all three locations were expected to close by the end of this month. Disney confirmed the closures, saying the three spaces would be used to offer additional dining options in Downtown Disney. Now Build-a-Bear employees say they have been notified that the store will remain open “at least through the holiday season.” Workers at Chapel Hats and Ridemakerz said they have not yet been given the closing date for their stores.
The AMC Theater in Downtown Disney will host a Halloween-themed Disney Junior at the Movies event on October 21, 26 and 28. Photo by Adrienne Vincent-Phoenix.
…The AMC Theater in Downtown Disney will host a Disney Junior at the Movie event on October 21, 26 and 28. During the one-hour event, families are encouraged to “come in costume, get up and sing, dance, play and celebrate the most spook-tacular time of the year with your favorite Disney Junior characters. This special event will include four Disney Junior episodes including Mickey and the Roadster Racers and a never-before-seen episode of “Vampirina” on the big screen, a costume party for kids and families, and more.”
Tickets go on sale September 22 via the event website.
…The MousePlanet Newsletter is here! The newsletter contains a recap of the week's articles (in case you miss a day), news that may have developed since the weekly Updates were published, and tips about what's happening at the Disney theme parks for the coming weekend. We'll also include a fun bonus, such as an Eye Spy or a trivia question. To subscribe to our free newsletter, just enter your e-mail in the box below.

Resort Events
Check here to see if a large convention, competition, or park event might fall during your next trip to the Disneyland Resort. If you know of any in-park events, official or unofficial, that should be listed here, please send us an e-mail (link).
2017
- Halloween Time: September 15 through October 31.
- MouseAdventure at Disneyland Resort (unofficial event) – Sunday, September 17. Registration is closed. More information on the event website.
- Mickey's Halloween Party at Disneyland – September 20, 22, 25, 27, 29; October 3, 6, 10, 13, 17, 20, 24, 27 and 31. Tickets on sale now.
- Gay Days at Disneyland (unofficial event) – October 6–8. More information on the event website.
- Dapper Day Fall Outing to Disneyland (unofficial event) – Sunday, November 5. More information at the event website. This popular event grows larger each year, so it's worth making note of the date if you plan to visit the park during this weekend.
- Super Heroes Half Marathon Weekend – November 9–12. This event adds to the Veteran's Day weekend crowds. Registration is still open for some events via the runDisney website.
- Holidays at the Disneyland Resort: November 10, 2017 through January 7, 2018.
2018
- Star Wars – The Light Side Half Marathon Weekend – Originally scheduled for January 11–14, 2018. Registration dates and details pending.
- Dapper Day Spring Outing to Disneyland (unofficial event) – Sunday, April 22. More information at the event website. This popular event grows larger each year, so it's worth making note of the date if you plan to visit the park during this weekend.
- Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend – Originally scheduled for May 10–13, 2018, but runDisney has since removed the date from the 2018 event listing. Registration dates and details pending.
- 2018 Grad Nites: May 4, 5, 11, 12, 15, 16, 18, 19, 22, 23, 29 and 30; June 1, 2, 5, 6, 8 and 9.
School Holidays
Notable school holidays that may impact park attendance. If you know of any other school holidays that should be listed here, please send us an e-mail (link).
2017
- Utah Education Association convention (UEA, a.k.a. “Utah Escapes to Anaheim”) – October 19–20. Expect large attendance levels October 19–22 as Utah students and families take advantage of a 4-day weekend created by their school's participation in a state education convention. Not all Utah schools or teachers close for or attend UEA, but the impact on the Resort is usually noticeable enough to mention.
- Nevada Day – October 28. Nevada schools are closed on Friday, October 28 to observe Nevada Day, creating a three-day weekend.
We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.
Non-Disney Resort Events
Notable events at parks and attractions around Southern California. If you know of an event that should be listed here, please send us an e-mail (link).
Knott's Berry Farm
Legoland California
- Brick-or-Treat – Saturdays in October.
- Holidays at Legoland – November 24, 2017 through January 1, 2018
- Kids' New Year's Eve – December 31.
Current Discounts & Promotions
Disneyland prices as of February 28, 2016.
Note: MousePlanet does not edit past Updates to reflect price increases; for up-to-date prices, check the most recent Disneyland Resort Update. Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!
This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don't get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency.

Discounts for:
Everyone |
Purchase with Purchase offers – Disneyland Resort shops frequently offer a reduced–price souvenir (often a tote bag, watch, or blanket) with a qualifying minimum purchase. These are offered at Disney-operated stores only, and selection may vary by location. Recently, Disney has begun allowing customers to purchase more than one of the offers in a qualifying transaction, so if you spend $40 or more you can buy both items currently available if you wish. If you're a passholder, the minimum purchase is calculated after your discount, and your discount does not apply to the promotional item. Current offers:
Landry's Select Club – members of the Landry's Select Club get priority seating at the Rainforest Cafe when available (which makes a huge difference on busy days). This club replaces the former Rainforest Cafe Safari Club, and runs on a point-based system that gives you a $25 gift certificate after you spend $250. Membership now costs $25, but comes with a $25 birthday reward. We recommend that you prepurchase your membership before your visit so you can take advantage of the priority seating benefit. ESPNZone MVP Club – membership in the MVP Club does not offer any discounts on food. However, once a member you can make an online reservation for your party up to three days in advance and will get a 25 percent increase in points purchased when playing games in the Sports Arena (and 40 bonus points at activation). You must register online and your membership card will then be mailed to you within two weeks. The card must then be activated at any ESPNZone by the person who signed up for the card and ID will be required (link). Character Dining Vouchers – discounted character dining vouchers are available for purchase online, in advance of your trip, through Get Away Travel. |

Southern California residents |
The 3-Day So Cal Resident 1-Park Per Day ticket offers residents of Southern California and Northern Baja California admission to either Disneyland or Disney California Adventure on one day, and then a second visit to either park on another day on or before May 25, 2017. You can use both days of this ticket at the same theme park, or visit one park one day and the other park on the second day, but you cannot use it to enter both parks on the same day. The ticket is $149 for ages 3 and up. You can also upgrade this ticket to a 3-Day Park Hopper, which allows entry to both parks each day, for an additional $40, a savings of up to $106 compared to the box office price of a three-day park-hopper ticket. If purchased in advance of arrival, the three-day tickets include one Magic Morning admission. This benefit does not come with tickets purchased at the theme park ticket booths, so make sure to order online and print at home before you arrive. If purchasing at a participating third party ticket outlet, double-check that their 3-day tickets come with this feature. There is no “fuse” on this ticket, which means you can use the first admission today and wait until May to use the second (or third) admission. You must, however, purchase the ticket by May 22, 2017. Tickets expire May 25, 2017, and are blocked out April 9–23, 2017. Read full details of this offer in the January 17 Disneyland Resort Update. You can either purchase tickets at the Disneyland Resort ticket booths, or online at Disneyland.com and print them at home. You can also purchase them at participating Disney Stores and authorized third party ticket outlets, including many local grocery stores. |

Visit our Annual Passholders Blockout Dates page to see more dates. You can see future calendar schedules at Disneyland. As always, specifics are subject to change without notice (or occasionally, without us noticing) so when information conflicts between what is presented here and that presented by Disney, it is best to assume Disney's information is correct.
Visit the Park Hours section of our Disneyland Park guide for additional details about Magic Morning and Toontown Morning Madness, including available attractions. Entertainment schedule: Go directly to the Disneyland Resort schedule for this week at Disneyland.com here.
The Seasons calendar is published on the Disneyland website for the next 8-11 months.
