Disneyland's holiday plans
The Disney Parks Blog posted details for this year's holiday season at the Disneyland Resort, delivering a mix of good and bad news to those eager to do some holiday planning of their own. The official celebration runs November 13 through January 6.

We speculated a few weeks ago on how Disney would blend the Anniversary and Holiday observances this year, and it looks like we guessed correctly about most of the potential trade-offs. Still, there were a few things we didn't predict, like the relocation of Santa Claus to Critter Country and the return of Olaf's Snow Fest. Here's the rundown of what to expect for the 2015 season:
Parades
We said it was highly unlikely that Disneyland would skip its A Christmas Fantasy parade entirely this year, but it was equally unlikely that the park would put the new Paint the Night parade on hiatus for the season. As we predicted, Disney is running the Christmas parade during the day—replacing Mickey's Soundsational Parade—and running Paint the Night nightly after dark.
Fireworks
We called this one correctly as well: “Believe… in Holiday Magic” will not be presented this year, in favor of the new “Disneyland Forever” fireworks show. Disney made sure to point out that there is a snow effect during the Frozen segment of the fireworks show, hoping to appease those who lament the loss of the nightly snowfall effect.
World of Color
Disney surprised us with this one: Rather than putting the anniversary World of Color – Celebrate show on hiatus and bringing back World of Color – Winter Dreams, Disney California Adventure is presenting both versions of the show nightly. We imagine you'll choose which version to watch when you pick up your Fastpass. We'd also expect the holiday version to be the first show presented each night, to accommodate families with younger children, but we'll know for sure once Disney publishes the park's entertainment schedule.
Santa

As feared, there is no Jingle Jangle Jamboree this year, because the Festival Arena is cleared to make way for the construction of the Star Wars Land to begin in January. Santa will now appear in a new location inside Disneyland, replacing Pooh and Friends for the season in Critter Country. Santa will also make appearances at Elias & Co. in Disney California Adventure.
Additional Disneyland notes
Sleeping Beauty Castle will remain decorated for the 60th anniversary during the 2015-2016 holiday season. MousePlanet file photo.
- Sleeping Beauty Castle will remain decorated for the 60th Anniversary, so the Winter Castle overlay is not being installed this year.
- Due to the height of the Paint the Night floats, do not expect the holiday garland to be installed over Main Street, U.S.A. this year.
The World Famous Jingle Cruise returns to Disneyland for a third season. MousePlanet file photo.
- The Jingle Cruise overlay returns for another year.
- Candlelight Processional is Saturday, December 5 and Sunday, December 6.
Additional Disney California Adventure notes
- Olaf's Snow Fest returns to Stage 17 in Hollywood Land, complete with snow slide and snow play area.
The Diamond Mad T Party is sticking around at least through January. MousePlanet file photo.
- The Diamond Mad T Party will be presented through the holiday season, which means no return of the Freeze the Night event.
Viva Navidad! returns to Disney California Adventure. MousePlanet file photo.
- The popular Disney Viva Navidad! celebration returns to Disney California Adventure, including the Disney Viva Navidad! Street Party.
Downtown Disney offerings

- Olaf's Frozen Ice Rink also returns in Downtown Disney, along with the Downtown Disney Winter Village.
D-Tech on Demand debuts in Downtown Disney
We noted back in June that Disney had filed for a permit to install a new D-Tech on Demand display. The popular offering has finally debuted at the D Street shop in Downtown Disney. D-Tech on Demand allows customers to personalize phone cases for a variety of models, choosing custom images and text.
After a year-long test run at Walt Disney World, D-Tech on Demand has debuted at the Disneyland Resort. Photo by Adrienne Vincent-Phoenix.
There are over 150 designs available, many of which are on display inside D Street. The full selection is available at one of several kiosks placed around the store, and cast members can also take orders using handheld tablets.
Over 150 designs are available, featuring everything from classic Disney animation to Pixar movies and even Star Wars. Photo by Adrienne Vincent-Phoenix.
Cases are currently available for the following models:
- iPhone 4/4S
- iPhone 5/5S
- iPhone 5C
- iPhone 6/6+
- Samsung Galaxy SIII
- Samsung Galaxy 4
- Samsung Galaxy 5
- Samsung Galaxy 6

Regardless of size, cases are $36.95. You can add your name to some designs for an additional $8. Once you pay for your case, it should be ready to take home in about 15 minutes. Each case is packaged in a special D-Tech blister card.
MousePlanet's Tony Phoenix purchased two cases this weekend, and noted some issues with the process. The designs are displayed in five categories on the tablet, like theme parks, characters or film, and there is no search function. You have to scroll through page after page of designs, with no way to limit or filter the options. There is also no way to compare designs side-by-side, or add them to a “favorites” list or “shopping cart” before making a final selection. You just have to remember which designs you saw, and what category they were in.
Merchandise displays in the back of the D Street store were removed to make room for the printers used to produce the custom cases. Photo by Adrienne Vincent-Phoenix.
Official and legitimate ways to buy sold out Mickey's Halloween Party tickets
With over half of the Mickey's Halloween Party events sold out online, people who waited too long are now entering the last-minute scramble to get tickets. Before you turn to Craigslist, StubHub or eBay (all of which bring with them the very high risk of being defrauded), here are three official ways you may still be able to buy legitimate party tickets directly from Disney:
Madame Leota's Seance Room is decorated for the holidays as part of the Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay. Photo by Adrienne Vincent-Phoenix.
- Call Disneyland and order tickets by phone – A limited number of tickets may be available by phone for events that are sold out online. Call (714) 781-4636 to purchase by phone. Expect to wait on hold for at least 10 minutes.
- Visit Disneyland and purchase tickets in person – A limited number of tickets may be available at the Disneyland ticket booths for events that are sold out online. However, if you tried to purchase tickets by phone and the night you wanted was sold out, they will not be available at the ticket booths.
- Disneyland Resort Hotels – If you are a guest staying at one of the three Disney-owned hotels (Disneyland Hotel, Paradise Pier Hotel, or Grand Californian Hotel), check with your hotel desk the morning of the event to see if they have tickets available for purchase. Last year, MousePlanet Community Leader Angela told us that a small number of tickets were reserved for Disneyland Resort Hotel guests, and were released for sale at 5:30 a.m. the morning of each party. Officially these tickets are intended only for concierge-level guests, but we've heard conflicting stories about that, and it seems some guests in standard rooms have been allowed to buy the tickets as well. If you're already staying on property, it does not hurt to ask. Angela warns that these tickets sell out very quickly, so don't wait until the party starts to try to make your purchase.
- Friends or family – If friends/family already have tickets, they may be able to purchase additional tickets the day of the party. Again, a small number of tickets are reserved for same-day sales to help accommodate ticket holders who may have miscounted how many they need, or who had friends/family unexpectedly join them. As with the tickets reserved for hotel guests, these are very limited, and go on sale as soon as the ticket booths open in the morning. If at all possible, get there first thing in the morning to increase your chance of getting tickets. You must have the other event tickets with you—the cast member needs to see them, and cannot just trust your word that “so-and-so already has tickets.”
This was the status of each event night as of publication:
Sold out: September 25; October 2, 9, 12, 14, 16, 19, 23, 25, and 31
Available: September 28, 30; October 5, 7, 22, 27, and 29
Join Team MousePlanet for the 25th Anniversary CHOC WalkAs of September 20, we've raised $2,547 for the 2015 CHOC WalkThe 2015 CHOC Walk in the Park, an annual fundraiser for Children's Hospital Orange County, is Sunday, October 11 at the Disneyland Resort. Team MousePlanet is back for our eighth consecutive year at the walk, and we invite all MousePlanet readers, friends and family members to join our team for the event. For more information about the event, and the benefits of joining Team MousePlanet, visit our MousePad discussion forum. We look forward to welcoming you to our team. 2015 CHOC-tober ticket promotionEach walker who raises at least $65 in the 2015 CHOC Walk can purchase up to five discounted tickets following the event. The tickets are valid starting October 11, 2015, and must by used by November 6, 2015.
Tickets may only be purchased in person at the Disneyland Resort following the CHOC Walk. There is a limit of 5 tickets per wristband, and each eligible walker must be present to show their wristband and purchase tickets. |
This and that…
…The Merchandise Events section (below) has been updated with all of the events through October 30, 2015. The events feature quite a few Halloween-related releases, and a book-signing with Don Hahn and Tracey Miller-Zarneke, featuring their new book Before Ever After.
…Prompted in part by the number of people who wrote to ask why Disneyland was so crowded last Monday, we've added a new calendar section titled School Holidays to our planning guides. This is not intended to be a comprehensive guide to school schedules for all California schools, but does call out some of the unexpected events that often prompt readers to ask where the crowds come from. For example, as with this past Monday, today (September 23) is an “unassigned day” for the Los Angeles Unified School district and other local schools, so expect larger-than-normal crowds visiting Disneyland to enjoy the Halloween offerings.
…When entering the Diamond Days Sweepstakes, be sure to text the Word of the Day to the new shortcode created for the extended contest. Use your phone to correctly text the Word of the Day to 227853 between 7:00 a.m. and 10:59 a.m. to enter both the daily and weekly contest, or text after 11:00 a.m. to enter only for the weekly sweepstakes. Entries sent to the old number are not valid. If you get an error message saying that you've entered the wrong word, you've probably used the old number.
…This weekend's Dapper Day Fall Soiree, a popular but unofficial event, proved to be even more popular than ever. Crowds were so large for Friday's official in-park day that Disneyland had to briefly close the gates to new arrivals. The group's spring event is Sunday, May 1, 2016, so mark your calendars and plan accordingly for an extremely busy weekend.
…The MousePlanet Newsletter is here! The newsletter contains a recap of the week's articles (in case you miss a day), news that may have developed since the weekly Updates were published, and tips about what's happening at the Disney theme parks for the coming weekend. We'll also include a fun MouseAdventure bonus, such as an Eye Spy or a trivia question. To subscribe to our free newsletter, just enter your e-mail in the box below.

- Dapper Days at the Parks (unofficial event) – Sunday, May 1, 2016. More information at the event website.
- 2016 Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend – September 1–4.
We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.
School Holidays
Notable school holidays that may impact park attendance. If you know of any other holidays that should be listed here, please send us an e-mail (link).
2015
- Local School Holiday – Monday, September 23. Many local schools are closed.
- Utah Education Association convention (UEA, a.k.a. “Utah Escapes to Anaheim”) – October 15–16. Expect unusually large attendance levels October 16–20 as Utah students and families take advantage of a 4-day weekend created by their school's participation in a state education convention. Not all Utah schools or teachers close for or attend UEA, but the impact on the resort is usually noticeable enough to mention.
- Nevada Day (observed) – Friday, October 30. A school holiday for our neighbors to the northeast creates a 3-day weekend and usually adds to the Halloween weekend crowds.
- Thanksgiving Break – November 23–27. Many local schools close for the entire week of Thanksgiving.
- Winter Break – December 21, 2015 – January 8, 2016. Most local schools are closed.
2016
- Spring Break(s) – March 14 – April 8. Most local schools are closed one week during this period. Expect the majority of school closures—and crowds—the weeks immediately before and after Easter Sunday, March 27.
- Local School Holiday – Monday, March 28. Most local schools not already on Spring Break will be closed for Cesar Chavez Day.
- Nevada Day (observed) – Friday, October 28. A school holiday for our neighbors to the northeast creates a 3-day weekend and usually adds to the Halloween weekend crowds.
- Utah Education Association convention (UEA, a.k.a. “Utah Escapes to Anaheim”) – October 20–21. Expect unusually large attendance levels October 19–23 as Utah students and families take advantage of a 4-day weekend created by their school's participation in a state education convention. Not all Utah schools or teachers close for or attend UEA, but the impact on the resort is usually noticeable enough to mention.
- Thanksgiving Break – November 21–25. Many local schools close for the entire week of Thanksgiving.
- Winter Break – December 19, 2016 – January 6, 2017. Most schools close only two of these three weeks, but some districts close all three weeks due to the Saturday Christmas.

Current Discounts & Promotions
Disneyland prices as of February 2015.
Note: MousePlanet does not edit past Updates to reflect price increases; for up-to-date prices, check the most recent Disneyland Resort Update. Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!
This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don't get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency.

The tickets are valid starting October 11, 2015, and must by used by November 6, 2015. For this 25th Anniversary event, CHOC has raised the minimum fund-raising commitment. There is no charge to register for the walk, but walkers (ages 3 and up) must commit to raise $65 before the event. We invite MousePlanet readers, friends, and family members to join our team for the event. No discounts currently available to the general public. Check with your employer, school or credit union to see if any discounts are available through them. |

2014–2015 Disney Military Promotional 3–Day Park Hopper Ticket ($132) |
A discounted price offered to Eligible Service Members or their spouses. The 2014–2015 U.S. Armed Forces discount is valid through October 3, 2015. Under this program, active and retired U.S. military personnel can purchase Disney Military Promotional 3-Day Park Hopper Tickets for $132 each. For the purpose of this offer, Disney defines “Eligible Service Members” as active or retired members of the U.S. military, including the National Guard, Reservists, and the U.S. Coast Guard. Valid military identification will be required for purchase. This discount is available at MWR/ITT offices at your military base or other at participating U.S. military sales outlets. The tickets are not available for sale at the Disneyland Resort ticket booths. The price is the same for adults and children, and total of six tickets may be purchased per military member, regardless of who purchases the tickets (the member or their spouse). Disney has also clarified that the “Military member (or spouse) must accompany the persons using these tickets for Theme Park admission,” which means you can not purchase these tickets and give them to someone who will be visiting without you present. Unlike past years, this ticket is not blocked out on the 4th of July. As far as we can tell, there is no “fuse” on this ticket, so you may have more than the standard 13 days from first use to use the remaining two admissions, but we highly recommend you contact your base MWR/ITT office for more details before making travel plans. Please note that this ticket is not a “bonus” ticket, and so does not include an early admission day. For complete information regarding Disney Military Promotional 3-Day Park Hopper Tickets and discounted resort rates, military personnel may visit the Disneyland Resort website, or participating U.S. military base ticket offices. |

Discounts for everyone |
Purchase with Purchase offers – Disneyland Resort shops frequently offer a reduced–price souvenir (often a tote bag, watch, or blanket) with a qualifying minimum purchase. These are offered at Disney-operated stores only, and selection may vary by location. Recently, Disney has begun allowing customers to purchase more than one of the offers in a qualifying transaction, so if you spend $40 or more you can buy both items currently available if you wish. If you're a passholder, the minimum purchase is calculated after your discount, and your discount does not apply to the promotional item. Current offers:
Landry's Select Club – members of the Landry's Select Club get priority seating at the Rainforest Cafe when available (which makes a huge difference on busy days). This club replaces the former Rainforest Cafe Safari Club, and runs on a point-based system that gives you a $25 gift certificate after you spend $250. Visit our Annual Passholders Blockout Dates page to see more dates. You can see future calendar schedules at Disneyland. As always, specifics are subject to change without notice (or occasionally, without us noticing) so when information conflicts between what is presented here and that presented by Disney, it is best to assume Disney's information is correct. Visit the Park Hours section of our Disneyland Park guide for additional details about Magic Morning and Toontown Morning Madness, including available attractions.
