Halloween Time sweets and treats
MousePlanet's Lisa Stiglic shared some of the Halloween Time treats in her article last week, and we wanted to add to her list with even more holiday-inspired food available at both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure, including an overview of the collectible souvenir items.
Food & beverage novelties
New for 2017 is an Oogie Boogie popcorn bucket and a redesigned Pumpkin Mickey popcorn bucket. The latter is available only in Disneyland, but you'll find the Boogie Man at select carts in both parks.

The basic popcorn bucket is available in three designs for 2017: a trick-or-treat theme at Disneyland, a version with Oogie Boogie and the Headless Horseman in Disney California Adventure, and a new Annual Passholder design featuring the Disney Villains.
The AP design is part of the latest refillable popcorn bucket promotion for Halloween Time, and will be sold through September 30. These buckets are $15 each, and refills are $1 each, plus tax, through October 31, 2017. Only the Villains-themed bucket offered during this promotion is eligible for the $1 refills, so you can leave the other versions from previous promotions at home.

Glow straws and bottle toppers continue to be a trend, with a new Pumpkin Mickey design available at Disneyland. A Tire Pumpkin design will be available at Disney California Adventure, along with a light-up Headless Horseman straw clip, but the shipments of both are late. Once they arrive, the Headless Horseman clip will also be sold at Disneyland during Mickey's Halloween Party events.

The popular Poison Apple stein is back for again this year, as is the coordinating glow cube. You can find both throughout Disneyland and Disney California Adventure, as well as at each of the resort hotels. Carthay Circle Restaurant and Lounge has an exclusive green version of the glow cube; all other locations carry the red version.
The Cozy Cones offers a new twist on the traffic cone sipper cups. For Halloween Time, you get a sheet of clear decals you can use to decorate your cone. They come in two sizes: 16 ounces for $10.99, or 32 ounces for $12.99.
If you collect tiki mugs, keep an eye on various social media feeds to find out when Trader Sam's Enchanted Tiki Bar releases the second edition of the Hitchhiking Ghost Tiki Mug. You may remember the first edition of this item sparked hours-long lines when it released in 2016, so be prepared to devote a morning and afternoon to getting the second edition when it arrives. Disney will not provide an estimated release date.

Cars Land foods
With Cars Land all decked out for its first year, it's no surprise that there are Halloween Time offerings on the menu. Cozy Cone 4 is the place to be if you want to try the Instagram darling of the bunch, the Spoke-y Cone macaron. This sweet treat is filled with marshmallow cream and whole candy corns, and has been a hot seller since Halloween Time began.

Lisa already mentioned the junked-up “JamBOOree” popcorn available in Cars Land, with a topping of M&Ms, Boston beans, chocolate-covered pretzels, candy corn, and Halloween sprinkles. The Cozy Cones also serve up a “Slow Burnin' Mac & Cheese Cone,” with a red pepper cheese sauce and crunchy chili cheese topping.
Flo's V8 Cafe has a new “Car-achnid” chicken pot pie on the menu for Halloween Time, topped with a spider-decorated crust. The pie theme continues with the Candy Cone Pie.

Cove Bar customers can order the “Ghost-ly Pepper” nachos, which are green tortilla chips covered with flank steak, ghost pepper cheese sauce and avocado-tomatillo salsa. Those who sampled these during a media preview said that they were much spicier than expected, so diner beware.

Paradise Pier foods
The Paradise Garden Grill has a new menu to support the Plaza de la Familia overlay of Paradise Gardens. The Yucatan-inspired menu includes entrees, desserts, and drinks. The popular Elote dish introduced in 2016 is also back on the menu for Halloween Time.

Frozen sweets and bakery treats
Clarabelle's Hand Scooped Ice Cream has two Halloween Time items: the Bat Wing Raspberry Sundae and a “Spider Silk” macaron ice cream sandwich.

Lest you think the donut craze is going anywhere, Schmoozies serves up a MonsterMallow donut. You can also get a “Mummy” macaron rainbow sherbet sandwich here, or a caramel apple smoothie.

Smokejumpers Grill has a new “Green Apple Spell Lemonade” with green apple syrup and cherry drops, while Fiddler, Fifer & Practical Cafe offers a Sleepy Hollow cupcake—a red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting, raspberry drizzle, and chocolate Headless Horseman topper.
Galactic Meet-Up
By Todd Pickering
On Tuesday, September 19th The Disney Parks Blog hosted a Galactic Meet-Up that included a reception and panel discussion, followed by a meet-and-greet with Star Lord and Gamora, and a chance to ride Guardians of the Galaxy-Monsters After Dark.
Disney Blogs Content Director Erin Glover hosted the event and served as moderator for the panel, which included:
- Capt. Mike Foreman – Former NASA astronaut
- Dr. Kimberly Ennico Smith – NASA Astrophysicist
- Stephen Wacker – Vice President of Development, TV and New Media, Marvel Entertainment
- John Mauro – Regional Executive Producer, Walt Disney Imagineering
- Amy Jupiter – Executive Media Producer, Walt Disney Imagineering
The talk was lively and the group worked well together. The idea that Walt himself was very interested in science and how to make things work, with Mission to Mars, Tomorrowland, and EPCOT all cited as great projects developed by the man himself.
Astrophysicist Kimberly Ennico Smith really drove the point across that it is stories and attractions like Guardians of the Galaxy that gets kids into science. It starts as just fun and enjoyment in characters and stories, but then the all-important questions get asked, which lead to more questions.
The science fiction becomes science reality.
Captain Mike Foreman was asked if there was zero gravity on Guardians of the Galaxy and he said that there are definitely moments when you are just hanging in the air. He also commented that in space, it is always zero gravity. Amy Jupiter discussed that in testing what the attraction could do, they put the elevators through rigorous tryouts, and some of the tests were deemed a bit much for the human body on the fun factor scale.
After the talk (which was so engaging that it went on a little longer than expected), the panel mingled with guests. Student guests from the Anaheim Union High School District were invited to meet the panelists for a more personal discussion in the Hyperion Theater.
In speaking with Imagineer John Mauro, he said that it was while they were building Mission Breakout! that the murmurings of “Let's do a Halloween overlay” got started, although the priority at the time was to simply get the this ride open first.
With all the publicity of the attraction, Mauro said they didn't feel they could run an overlay all day, which is why it switches over at 6:00. I asked if this switch was possibly by simply pushing one button, which he confirmed. The technology of the ride is that sophisticated.
Speaking with Stephen Wacker was like a comic geek-out fest. Although he was very careful when asked about upcoming shows, since he had to be careful about what he could reveal—his sense of humor and conviviality made it easy and fun. There seems to be a lot of enthusiasm and excitement about a Marvel presence in the parks, so we can expect there to be a lot of fun developments coming our way.
The Disney Park Blog does events like this throughout the year, and they always fill up quickly. Events are usually announced via social media, so be sure to follow the @DisneyParks account on Twitter, or the official Disney Parks Blog Facebook page. You can also watch the Disney Parks Blog website, but they do not send out notifications directly, so social media is your best bet.
Mickey's not-so-sold-out Halloween Party
We really thought last week's Update would be the last time we discussed Mickey's Halloween party ticket for 2017, but last week Disneyland announced via the official @DisneylandAP twitter account that tickets for the first two nights were still available at the ticket booths. As we've repeatedly shared before, a limited number of tickets may be available at the Disneyland ticket booths for events that are shown as sold out online. It appears Disney may have held back a larger-than-usual number of tickets for in-person sales this year, perhaps to offer them as a “surprise” for passholders.
A sign outside Disneyland advertises that tickets to that evening's “sold out” Mickey's Halloween Party event may still be available from the Disneyland ticket booths. Photo by Adrienne Vincent-Phoenix.
As always, these tickets are not available online or by phone, and can only be purchased in person at the Disneyland Resort ticket booths. As of the time of this writing, the only event for which tickets were not available at the booths is the party on Friday, October 13.
Two movie previews coming to Disney California Adventure
Disney California Adventure is hosting two movie previews in October and November. A sneak preview of Thor: Ragnarok begins Friday, October 6 at the Sunset Showcase Theater in Disney California Adventure. Disney has not said how long the preview will run, but the movie opens on Friday, November 3, 2017.

Starting Saturday, November 3, It’s Tough to Be a Bug! theater in “a bug’s land” is screening a sneak peek of Disney-Pixar's Coco. The theater closes October 23 through November 2 to set up the preview, which also does not have an end date. The movie opens Friday, November 22.

Resort Events
Check here to see if a large convention, competition, or park event might fall during your next trip to the Disneyland Resort. If you know of any in-park events, official or unofficial, that should be listed here, please send us an e-mail (link).
2017
- Halloween Time: Through October 31.
- Mickey's Halloween Party at Disneyland – September 25, 27, 29; October 3, 6, 10, 13, 17, 20, 24, 27 and 31. All event nights are now sold out.
- Gay Days at Disneyland (unofficial event) – October 6–8. More information on the event website.
- Dapper Day Fall Outing to Disneyland (unofficial event) – Sunday, November 5. More information at the event website. This popular event grows larger each year, so it's worth making note of the date if you plan to visit the park during this weekend.
- Super Heroes Half Marathon Weekend – November 9–12. This event adds to the Veteran's Day weekend crowds. Registration is still open for some events via the runDisney website.
- Holidays at the Disneyland Resort: November 10, 2017 through January 7, 2018.
2018
- Star Wars – The Light Side Half Marathon Weekend – Originally scheduled for January 11–14, 2018. Registration dates and details pending.
- Dapper Day Spring Outing to Disneyland (unofficial event) – Sunday, April 22. More information at the event website. This popular event grows larger each year, so it's worth making note of the date if you plan to visit the park during this weekend.
- Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend – Originally scheduled for May 10–13, 2018, but runDisney has since removed the date from the 2018 event listing. Registration dates and details pending.
- 2018 Grad Nites: May 4, 5, 11, 12, 15, 16, 18, 19, 22, 23, 29 and 30; June 1, 2, 5, 6, 8 and 9.
School Holidays
Notable school holidays that may impact park attendance. If you know of any other school holidays that should be listed here, please send us an e-mail (link).
2017
- Utah Education Association convention (UEA, a.k.a. “Utah Escapes to Anaheim”) – October 19–20. Expect large attendance levels October 19–22 as Utah students and families take advantage of a 4-day weekend created by their school's participation in a state education convention. Not all Utah schools or teachers close for or attend UEA, but the impact on the Resort is usually noticeable enough to mention.
- Nevada Day – October 28. Nevada schools are closed on Friday, October 28 to observe Nevada Day, creating a three-day weekend.
We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.
Non-Disney Resort Events
Notable events at parks and attractions around Southern California. If you know of an event that should be listed here, please send us an e-mail (link).
Knott's Berry Farm
Legoland California
- Brick-or-Treat – Saturdays in October.
- Holidays at Legoland – November 24, 2017 through January 1, 2018
- Kids' New Year's Eve – December 31.
Current Discounts & Promotions
Disneyland prices as of February 28, 2016.
Note: MousePlanet does not edit past Updates to reflect price increases; for up-to-date prices, check the most recent Disneyland Resort Update. Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!
This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don't get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency.

Discounts for:
Everyone |
Purchase with Purchase offers – Disneyland Resort shops frequently offer a reduced–price souvenir (often a tote bag, watch, or blanket) with a qualifying minimum purchase. These are offered at Disney-operated stores only, and selection may vary by location. Recently, Disney has begun allowing customers to purchase more than one of the offers in a qualifying transaction, so if you spend $40 or more you can buy both items currently available if you wish. If you're a passholder, the minimum purchase is calculated after your discount, and your discount does not apply to the promotional item. Current offers:
Landry's Select Club – members of the Landry's Select Club get priority seating at the Rainforest Cafe when available (which makes a huge difference on busy days). This club replaces the former Rainforest Cafe Safari Club, and runs on a point-based system that gives you a $25 gift certificate after you spend $250. Membership now costs $25, but comes with a $25 birthday reward. We recommend that you prepurchase your membership before your visit so you can take advantage of the priority seating benefit. ESPNZone MVP Club – membership in the MVP Club does not offer any discounts on food. However, once a member you can make an online reservation for your party up to three days in advance and will get a 25 percent increase in points purchased when playing games in the Sports Arena (and 40 bonus points at activation). You must register online and your membership card will then be mailed to you within two weeks. The card must then be activated at any ESPNZone by the person who signed up for the card and ID will be required (link). Character Dining Vouchers – discounted character dining vouchers are available for purchase online, in advance of your trip, through Get Away Travel. |

Southern California residents |
The 3-Day So Cal Resident 1-Park Per Day ticket offers residents of Southern California and Northern Baja California admission to either Disneyland or Disney California Adventure on one day, and then a second visit to either park on another day on or before May 25, 2017. You can use both days of this ticket at the same theme park, or visit one park one day and the other park on the second day, but you cannot use it to enter both parks on the same day. The ticket is $149 for ages 3 and up. You can also upgrade this ticket to a 3-Day Park Hopper, which allows entry to both parks each day, for an additional $40, a savings of up to $106 compared to the box office price of a three-day park-hopper ticket. If purchased in advance of arrival, the three-day tickets include one Magic Morning admission. This benefit does not come with tickets purchased at the theme park ticket booths, so make sure to order online and print at home before you arrive. If purchasing at a participating third party ticket outlet, double-check that their 3-day tickets come with this feature. There is no “fuse” on this ticket, which means you can use the first admission today and wait until May to use the second (or third) admission. You must, however, purchase the ticket by May 22, 2017. Tickets expire May 25, 2017, and are blocked out April 9–23, 2017. Read full details of this offer in the January 17 Disneyland Resort Update. You can either purchase tickets at the Disneyland Resort ticket booths, or online at Disneyland.com and print them at home. You can also purchase them at participating Disney Stores and authorized third party ticket outlets, including many local grocery stores. |

Visit our Annual Passholders Blockout Dates page to see more dates. You can see future calendar schedules at Disneyland. As always, specifics are subject to change without notice (or occasionally, without us noticing) so when information conflicts between what is presented here and that presented by Disney, it is best to assume Disney's information is correct.
Visit the Park Hours section of our Disneyland Park guide for additional details about Magic Morning and Toontown Morning Madness, including available attractions. Entertainment schedule: Go directly to the Disneyland Resort schedule for this week at Disneyland.com here.
The Seasons calendar is published on the Disneyland website for the next 8-11 months.
