News and Views
Lights out!
The Main Street Electrical Parade ends its limited-time engagement at Disneyland tonight, September 30, with two final performances scheduled for 8:40 and 10:45 p.m.
Disneyland's Main Street Electrical Parade will go back into storage after tonight's performance. MousePlanet file photo.
The Mickey and Friends Band-Tastic Cavalcade return sto Disneyland starting tomorrow, October 1, with daily performances at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. This processional serves as a placeholder until A Christmas Fantasy Parade begins November 8.
New spa coming to Disney's Grand Californian Hotel
We noted a few weeks ago that the Mandara Spa at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel had closed on July 10, and that Disney had filed permits to renovate the spa and adjacent restroom.

Now Disney has provided a preview of the remodeled spa, to be called the Tenaya Stone Spa. The facility is scheduled to reopen in spring 2020.
Gay Days at Disneyland this weekend
The 2019 Gay Days at Disneyland is scheduled for this Friday through Sunday, October 4–6. The event welcome center is located in the Trillium Room in Disney's Grand Californian Hotel.
You can view the full schedule of organized activities and meet-ups on the event website. Most gatherings are planned to take place on Saturday inside Disneyland park, and on Sunday inside Disney California Adventure. The annual group photo is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on Saturday in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle.
Time to make Thanksgiving dinner… reservations
If you are planning to visit the Disneyland Resort for the Thanksgiving holiday, this should be the week to call and make reservations for your holiday feast. Reservations are typically accepted up to 60 days in advance, although the Disney Dining system has yet to open up bookings for Thanksgiving Day.
The headline holiday event in past years has been the Disneyland Hotel Thanksgiving meal, served in the Grand Ballroom of the Disneyland Hotel. Disney has not yet announced whether the buffet is returning for 2019, or whether it has been discontinued just like the Easter and Mother's Day offerings.
A less-expensive option for a character meal is to start your day with a character breakfast or brunch at Storyteller's Cafe at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel, or Goofy's Kitchen at the Disneyland Hotel.
If you're looking for something a bit more formal, consider having your Thanksgiving dinner at Steakhouse 55 or Napa Rose restaurant.
Inside the theme parks, Disneyland's Carnation Cafe and Cafe Orleans have traditionally offered a Thanksgiving meal for the holiday. Plaza Inn also offers a holiday meal, or you can book a special dining package that includes reserved viewing for A Christmas Fantasy Parade.
If you're spending Thanksgiving in Disney California Adventure, consider the Carthay Circle Restaurant or the popular Lamplight Lounge for a more traditional meal, or nibble your way through the Festival of Holidays booths for a progressive dinner option.
Whatever you choose, you can book reservations for most locations online using the Disneyland website or app, or you can call (714) 781-3463 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. (Pacific) daily to book by phone.
And if you wait too long, you can always use the handy mobile ordering feature to skip the line when you pick up a turkey club sandwich from Flo's V8 Cafe.
Tickets available for Breakfast with Santa at Catal
Reservations are now open for the 2019 Breakfast with Santa events at Catal restaurant in Downtown Disney. Brunch is served between 8:15 a.m. and 12:45 on December 7, 8, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22, 23, and 24.
The event includes family-style breakfast at Catal restaurant in Downtown Disney, live entertainment, a photo opportunity with Santa Claus, and a personalized stocking and stuffed animal for each child.
Tickets are $89 per adult and $39 per child ages 3 to 10 (a $9 per person increase from 2018), Children 2 and under are free, but must be counted in the party size. Registration is now open—book online via the Patina Group website.
Holiday Gingerbread Workshops at Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen
Reservations for the annual holiday gingerbread workshops at Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen go on sale October 28 at 10:00 a.m., and would-be builders should mark your calendars so as not to miss out on tickets. There are four workshops this year: Sunday December 8; Saturday December 14; Sunday December 15; and Saturday December 21.
The Workshop and Dining package is a 3-hour event. Participants can feast at the Ralph Brennan's brunch buffet from 11:00 to 12:15, and enjoy unlimited soft drinks throughout the event. After brunch, it's time to build your gingerbread house masterpiece, with help from executive chef Darrin Finkel. The workshop wraps up at 1:00 p.m., and participants get to take their creations home.
The package is $52.55* per adult, and $31.33* per child age 3-10. Gingerbread house kits are $33.46* each, and come with the pre-formed gingerbread slabs, icing, candy decorations and a jingle bell. Each party must purchase at least one gingerbread kit for their group, and may purchase additional kits if some members want to build their own house. Book via the event website. *All prices including transaction fees.
These events began in 2003, and have become a tradition for some enthusiasts, who return year after year to perfect their skills. New for 2019: the best-decorated house, as judged by executive chef Darrin Finkel, will win a $100 Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen gift certificate.
Tip: you can bring your own candy, icing, and other decorations if you want to go above and beyond that which is provided by the chefs. The first year we attended, we assumed everyone would be working with the same ingredients, and were in awe of the elaborate creations produced by returning gingerbread builders. Kids will definitely have a great time building their houses with the supplied materials (and eating half of the candies before they make it onto the roof), but feel free to bring more supplies and really get creative if you wish.
Disney menus to get a plant-based boost
Starting in 2020, most Disneyland Resort restaurants will add plant-based dishes to their menus. This new menu initiative kicks off this week at Walt Disney World, where nearly 400 plant-based entrées, snacks and treats will be offered throughout the Florida resort's theme parks and hotels. A new green leaf icon displayed on menus will identify dishes that are made without meat, dairy, eggs or honey.
Many of the dishes will make their way onto menus at the Disneyland Resort next spring, with the same leaf icon making them easier to spot. Disneyland Resort culinary director John State shares two of the plant-based dishes already available in California.
This and That…
The MousePlanet Newsletter is here! The newsletter contains a recap of the week's articles (in case you miss a day), news that may have developed since the weekly Updates were published, and tips about what's happening at the Disney theme parks for the coming weekend. We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

Current Discounts and Promotions
Disneyland prices as of January 6, 2019.
Note: MousePlanet does not edit past Updates to reflect price increases; for up-to-date prices, check the most recent Disneyland Resort Update. Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!
This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don't get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.

Purchase with purchase offers – Disneyland Resort shops frequently offer a reduced-price souvenir (often a tote bag, watch, or blanket) with a qualifying minimum purchase. These are offered at Disney-operated stores only, and selection may vary by location.
Disney usually allows customers to purchase more than one of the offers in a qualifying transaction, so if you spend $40 or more you can buy both items currently available if you wish. If you're a passholder, the minimum purchase is calculated after your discount, and your discount does not apply to the promotional item.
Character dining vouchers – Disneyland is no longer offering tickets or vouchers to be pre-purchased for Character Dining. You may still make reservations 60 days in advance with payment due at the restaurant.

Visit our Annual Passholders Blockout Dates page to see more dates. You can see future calendar schedules at Disneyland. As always, specifics are subject to change without notice (or occasionally, without us noticing) so when information conflicts between what is presented here and that presented by Disney, it is best to assume Disney's information is correct.
Visit the Park Hours section of our Disneyland Park guide for additional details about Magic Morning and Toontown Morning Madness, including available attractions. Entertainment schedule: Go directly to the Disneyland Resort schedule for this week at Disneyland.com here.
The Seasons calendar is published on the Disneyland website for the next eight to 11 months.
