Steven Ng interviews Jim Presley, who has recreated the Main Street Electrical Parade soundtrack that never was.

Jim, a Las Vegas musician, has created a tribute to the Main Street Electrical Parade including all of the music that has been played at Disneyland over the years. He has licensed all of the music for all of the different clips from all of the different music companies holding the rights. It took two years to arrange and record the music for the CD. He took great pains to use the same methods and the same type of synthesizers that were used in the original recordings.

Jim is planning a series of 10 CD, each of which will take about 2 years to produce. (According to Jim’s Web site, next up is the Country Bears.)

Steven Ng again interviews Eddie Carroll, voice of Jiminy Cricket.

Eddie has recorded audio for a new parade at Walt Disney World, with a theme of dreams and wishes coming true and believing in yourself. On the main float are Pinocchio and Jiminy Cricket, and there are additional recordings for Jiminy and Pinocchio to talk with the crowd between the portions of the song. Eddie talked a bit about the process to record in California with parade designers listening in from Florida.

Eddie is flabbergasted by Disney’s attention to detail. He’s also extremely impressed by the Disney fans. Eddie talked about meeting Disney fans at the various fan conventions and getting to share a love of Disney with them.

Eddie also talked a bit about why he feels that Walt Disney was so significant.

Featurette: The DCA Detective

Steven Ng interviews Kendra Trahan and Brian McKim, author and illustrator of Disney’s California Adventure Detective.

Brian is the son of Disney legend Sam McKim. Kendra is the author of Disneyland Detective. Kendra chatted a bit about the kind of material that is in her new book and shared some of the fun facts that she lists in the book. Now that she lives in Florida, she plans to start working on Detective books on the Walt Disney World parks.

In honor of Father’s Day, Mark asked: What is your favorite Disney “Dad” memory? It can be your Dad, you as a Dad or any Disney dad.

We got some great stories, and it was wonderful for everyone to share them. The non-space-limited format of Facebook provided much longer responses than the limited Twitter format. Here are the narratives:

• Most memorable but not the only one is when we persuaded Dad to go on the DCL. His first cruise and he kept saying the boat might sink for the first day. After that he really got into it. Our night at the Palo, he couldn’t decide what to have for dessert. The waiter brought out one of each and spread them out in front if Dad. Needless to say, we all tried every one (Chocolate souffle wins) That cruise had many such magical moments! Thanks DCL.
• In Feb 2007, My Dad(age50) (world biggest Grump) agreed to go to WDW with me(32)and mom the second the light came on at the MC the first night his eye lit up light a 2yr olds. Now he want to know when the next trips will be (NOV 2010). It’s nice to see that even a hardass can have fun at WDW.
• This past November, my dad agreed to go on the DCL with us. My mom had passed away several weeks before, and we all wanted to spend Thanksgiving together. It was a wonderful time to be together, and my dad surprised me by ‘dressing’ up somewhat pirate for pirate’s night and also graciously wearing napkin hats at the character breakfast! I think some of my fondest sights were of him sitting on our verandah, watching the sea and also sitting on a beach chair at Castaway Cay.
• My Dad and Mom took me to Disneyland twice, once in 1957 and again in 1958, when I was ages 3 and 4 respectively. From Mobile AL to Anaheim CA. Walt’s TV series at the time must’ve been very compelling for parents to be inspired to actually go there no matter how far they lived from CA. My Dad’s job was transferred to Sacramento CA in 1965, Air Force civilian manager, and we went to Disneyland a couple of times in our California life. We went to then brand new New Orleans Square, and ate at Blue Bayou. I remember my Dad making a great point to tell the server how authentic N.O. Square was and Blue Bayou was. Being from the Gulf Coast, we were very familiar with visiting New Orleans. And indeed Walt’s Imagineers did a superb job of replicating French Quarter special little shops, the alleys, the ambience and architecture. As transplants, we recognized this, and it was like home. So Dad was touched, and wanted to let the waitress know. He passed away in 2002, in his 80s.
• My dad singing the Mickey Mouse March with the “music teacher” on Main Street USA 🙂
• Fave Disney dad memory: My 3yo son said Spaceship Earth (as opposed to “the golf ball”). Made me smile 2 know I’m raising him right.
• Going to the MK with my dad in 2003…the only time we’d ever been to a park just the two of us. It was so sweet of him to take me.
• I remember my dad making me ride Space Mountain even though I cried and screamed throughout the line and whole ride… When the ride was over I said (while still crying), “Can we do that again?” – My fav Disney Dad is Walt Disney because he just wanted a place where kids & adults could enjoy together & look what we have now.
• My favorite Disney Dad memory was my kids 1st trip to WDW and seeing Disney through their eyes and watching them have a great time.
• I count COP as a ride vehicle because it is in motion and unique to WDW.
• Going on mission space with my dad.
