Last chance to donate to Mark's March of Dimes campaign!

On April 29, Mark will be spending his birthday walking to raise money for the March of Dimes. MousePlanet readers and MouseStation listeners have helped Mark to raise over $20,000 for the worthy charity over the last six years. This year, his goal is to raise another $5,000. His dollar-for-dollar donation matching challenge generated $1,100 in qualifying donations! There are still a few days to donate, though. Let's see how much more we can raise!

You can also walk with Mark, either in person or virtually, by joining Team MousePlanet and getting your friends and family to contribute! The Kid is also raising money this year. You can go to Mark's fundraising page to sponsor him, The Kid's fundraising page to sponsor him, or the Team MousePlanet page to join in and walk yourself! Help us to provide a better chance to prevent prematurity and to help those babies that are born prematurely!

Feature: Entertainment and Hotel Operations aboard the Disney Fantasy

Mark shared three interviews from the media preview cruise aboard the Disney Fantasy:

David Duffy, Creative Director of Entertainment and Port Adventures

David talked a little about what he's been working on for the ship and what's new aboard the Fantasy, including the theatrical shows and the nightclub district. Mark then discussed the kids' spaces with David.

Mark brought up David's constant attention to what's going on with the entertainment and the continuous improvement process, and David discussed the constant evaluation that results in changes based on how guests respond to the offerings. David explained how the Pirate Night festivities have been adapted based upon how gests have chosen to experience the event.

Jim Urry, Vice President of Entertainment and Port Adventures
Kevin Eld, Vice President of WDI Creative Entertainment & Executive Producer for Shanghai Disney
Michael Jung, Vice President of Theatrical Development

Kevin discussed the major difference in putting on a show in a theater on a ship, then Kevin and Michael talked about the challenges of creating a theater on a ship where every cubic inch is precious.

Jim talked a little about how the ship's entertainment is like a repertory theater, and the factors involved with keeping everything straight.

Mark, Michael, and Kevin discussed some of the approaches used to make the staging appear more complete while limiting space requirements. Michael then talked a bit about what is new or modified from the Disney Dream and Jim talked about some things that people may not realize is entirely choreographed.

Ozer Balli, Vice President of Hotel Operations

Ozer talked a bit about some of the unique challenges related to running a hotel at sea. He explained how Disney Cruise Line stages the orders and coordinates the delivery of supplies for each ship.

Mark asked Ozer about what is involved in taking care of 1,250 staterooms every day and turning them around when the ship docks. They also discussed the need to handle sanitary issues on board to prevent the spread of disease.

Let us know which what you think of the Disney Fantasy!

Pat Toohill wrote to ask how he could get us some color video of the old Admiral Joe Fowler Riverboat. If Pat gets it to us, we'll share it with you!
