Feature: Extreme Makeover: Attraction Edition (Imagination pavilion)
Mark and Mike give the Imagination pavilion a reboot.
The Imagination pavilion has had two makeovers in the last decade or so, but Mike and Mark decide to reboot it from scratch.
Pavilion Exterior
The overall architecture will be retained, but the color scheme will change and Mark came up with an idea to add some real bling and flash to bring the pavilion alive.
Interior main attraction space
Mike questioned whether the main attraction needs to be a ride. Mark was open to possibilities there, but thought that it could be accomplished either with a ride or a series of chambers that you walk through. Mark mentioned a series of existing technologies that could be used to create the attraction: the Horizons “choose your own ending” traveling image display technique; the new Spaceship Earth “choose your future” complex, personalized story path creation; selecting your own avatar and having it match your body movement (seen at the 2007 World Science Festival’s Science of Imagineering presentation); and a computer generated background. Allow everything to be customized, including sky and ground colors, unusual avatars, etc. While it would take a lot of computing power, it could be done. Mike invoked Second Life as an example of how to allow people to create their own environment.
Mark estimated about 15-20 minutes for the length of the attraction. It would need a storyline to follow to give it a beginning, a middle and an end. For a framing conceit, Mark wants it to be something along the lines of Cranium Command, where you are assigned to provide the imagination for a child. Mark and Mike decided to jettison the Imagination Institute theme, but thought about letting people select their own guide through the process (but not “Clippy”), including Figment (as originally conceived, not the mischievous “updated” version) and Dreamfinder.

Twitter/Facebook poll questions
Here are the responses to some questions that Mark was asking on Twitter and Facebook in the last week. If you’d like to get in on answering these questions in the future, you can follow Mark on Twitter or friend him on Facebook.
What Disney movie are you most excited for in 2010 and why?
- Toy Story 3: 19
- Alice in Wonderland: 8
- Tron: Legacy: 6
- Rapunzel: 1
- Captain EO: 1
- Secretariat: 1
- Prince of Persia: 1
via Twitter:
- I am looking forward to Toy Story 3. It will be interesting to see how they add some closure to the series.
- TOY STORY 3. They’ve got a great track record so far!
- That assumes I have any idea what’s on the schedule. Oh all right, “When In Rome”.
- TRON: Legacy. Enjoyed the first and from everything i’ve seen so far, it looks like this one is going to be great.
- Is there going to be an Old Dogs 2 this year? ๐ Giving a more serious response, it probably is between Toy Story 3 and Tron Legacy as both are sequels with a lot of potential. I’m also pretty interested in Alice in Wonderland due to director and cast. Generally, Disney’s non-sequel/non-remakes this year don’t pique my interest that much other than maybe Repunzel.
- I’m eager to see what they do with ‘Tron Legacy.’ Burton’s ‘Alice’ should be good as well.
via Facebook:
- Toy Story 3 Because I love those toys so much.
- CAPTAIN EO! Need I say more?
- Alice in Wonderland…..Johnny Depp + TIm Burton = Awesome Adaptation of a Classic Story
- I think TS3 for the family, but I am actually looking forward to AiW for some odd reason.
- Toy Story 3 – Trailers look great
- TS3 for sure!
- Toy Story 3
- Tron Legacy, Toy Story 3, I was interested in the Alice in Wonderland film… And I’m really curious how Secretariat turned out, it was partly filmed here in Louisiana (where I live, Geaux Saints!)
- Toy Story 3. Looking forward to see how they end one of the most beloved trilogies.
- Alice in Wonderland–can’t get enough Tim Burton.
- Tron Legacy BECUASE just imagine if it does well enough they might actually start making improvements to Tomorrowland! Replace Innoventions with a Light Cycle Race Coaster! Bring a single unifyiing theme to a land that has been kinda mish-mash from day one!
- Hard pick but I’ll say Toy Story 3 because my son and godchildren love those films.
- Toy Story 3
- Toy Story 3
- Tron: Legacy
- Toy story 3! I can’t wait!!!!!!!!!!!
- Alice in Wonderland
- Gotta be Toy Story 3
- Toy Story 3 for sure.
- From the ones I am aware of so far, it’s Toy Story 3 for me!
- Can I pick 2? Toy Story, and Tron
via Email:
- The Disney movie I am most looking forward to this year has to be Alice In Wonderland. The previews won me over with what looks like incredible 3D effects and the cast isn’t to shabby either.
- I might have said “Alice in Wonderland” or “Price of Persia”, but then I remembered that “Toy Story 3” is coming out in June and that wins HANDS DOWN! PS: If Disney had kept the rights to Narnia, I would have voted for “The Chronicles of Naria: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader”, one of my favorite books of all time!
Mike is most excited to see Prince of Persia
Mark is most excited to see Toy Story 3 and Tron: Legacy. He’s not yet convinced that Rapunzel will actually make it into theaters. If it does, it’ll be up there as well.
Next week’s question: What do you think of Disney’s Phineas and Ferb?
March of Dimes
For the second year in a row, Mark has been named the top walker for the March of Dimes in New York’s Capital Region, and second overall in Northeastern New York (above the counties of Westchester and Rockland). MousePlanet readers and MouseStation listeners have helped Mark to raise over $15,000 for the worthy charity over the last four years. This year, his goal is to raise $5,000 again. But that’s not all! This year, you can walk with Mark, either in person or virtually, by joining Team MousePlanet! Mike has already signed on to walk as well. You can go to Mark’s fundraising page to sponsor him, Mike’s fundraising page to sponsor him, or the Team MousePlanet page to join in and walk yourself! Help us to provide a better chance to prevent prematurity and to help those babies that are born prematurely!
