Happy Anniversary!
Today is MouseStation’s first anniversary! Our first show went live on January
11, 2007. It was a single, weekly show including short subjects, Disney news
and a featured topic, and it was only 50 minutes long! Can you imagine? It’s
been a great year, and we’d like to thank all of you for joining us in it.
Here’s to a great second year!
An apology
While preparing this show notes, we were wondering why we hadn’t had any
listener feedback in so long. After some reasearch, we found a problem in
the routing of our toll-free voicemail system. It received the voicemails,
but then sent them off into Never-Neverland. So basically, all of the voicemails
that you wonderful listeners have called in since November 18 has been lost
forever. We feel terrible about all of you who called your stories and thoughts
in just to have them disappear. We can assure you that the problem has been
taken care of, and we’d really appreciate it if you could try to call your
thoughts in again. We apologize profusely and thank you for your understanding.
Listener Feedback Friday!
After Mike finished butchering the English language, we got to this week’s
Listener Feedback:
Mary Tesch of Seymour, WI talked about she and her 12-year-old daughter listen
to many Disney podcasts together, and that when her daughter got her own iPod
Nano for Christmas, the first thing that she wanted on it was “the Disney
Podcast where they say ‘Featured Attraction.'” They’ve been missing the Ask
the Kid segment lately, too. (Send in your own “Ask the Kid” questions
here.)They’ll let us know their Top
3 lists after they get back from their trip next week. They’re looking forward
to trying Yak & Yeti. This led to a sniping war between Mike and Mark
over the “Lion King” and “Finding
Nemo” shows at Animal Kingdom that somehow lasted through the rest
of the show.
Deb from Michigan is still catching up on podcasts after falling behind while
at MouseFest. After hearing all of the construction items on the December
20 show, she decided that she’s going to stop cringing when she buys lunch
next time she’s there, thinking about how much money it takes to keep the
place in good shape, to pay 50,000 cast members, and to create new multi-million
dollar attractions. Mike and Mark both would like to see more money routed
to the cast members, though.
Alex from Houston sent in his Top 3 list for Animal Kingdom, though he didn’t
remember eating anywhere at the park and he hasn’t been to the park in a while.
- Live Entertainment

- 1. Festival of the Lion King

- 3. Kali River Rapids

(He hasn’t been to the park since Everest opened.)
Pete Altemese also sent in his Animal Kingdom Top 3.

He also nominated Pocahontas and her Forest Friends as the worst live entertainment
at the park.
Dave in San Francisco also wanted to send in his DAK Top 3.
- Dining
- 3. Harambe Fruit Market
- 2. Kusafiri Coffee

He also suggested some additional Top 3 topics: Top 3 things to do outside
the parks at WDW, Top 3 underappreciated attractions or shows andTop 3 snacks.
Scott Ferraioli sent a follow-up with a photo of his new son, Trent Ryan.
He’s certainly a cutie, though he’d probably look better wearing a MousePlanet
or MouseStation bib or
shirt!

Jonathan Shain of Newtown, Pennsylvania wrote in, largely to say how much
he enjoys our show. He appreciates the work that goes into the show, and noted
that what keeps him listening and coming back for more is the easy rapport
and friendship that we share with each other, and the appreciation for Disney
that we share with the audience.
That led Mike and Mark to talk about how much listener feedback is appreciated,
whether it’s good or bad. Of course, Mark needed to mention a local band out
of Albany called Blotto,
who had a song called “(We Are) The Nowtones” (available for your
listening here),
where after the lyrics “We love the customers; they always make suggestions,”
you hear “Play something good!”
Anniversary banter
We chatted for a while about the last year. It’s been a heck of a year and
the podcast has changed so much over that time. First, we discussed our history
with the Magical
Moment Podcast, which we hosted from August 15, 2006 until we shut it
down on January 1, 2007 to start MouseStation, which debuted a week and a
half later.
We’ve had a wonderful time doing this show, and we love the feedback that
we’ve been getting from the listeners. If it weren’t for you, we wouldn’t
be doing this.
Mark was incredibly thankful for the opportunity to do so many interviews
at Walt Disney World, both at the International Press Event in January 2007
and on his research trip in October 2007. (He felt bad that he forgot the
last name of Chris Clark, Special Events Manager for the Epcot International
Food & Wine Festival. But it has been magical to be able to do all of the
interviews that he’s done over the year and to share them with our listeners.
