Feature: Four Decades of Walt Disney World Magic

Mark talks with Chad Emerson, publisher of the new book Four Decades of Magic: Celebrating the First Forty Years of Disney World. The book is available for purchase on Amazon.com.

We last heard from Chad last May, when Mark talked with him about Project Future, his book about assembling the land on which to build Walt Disney World. Around that same time, Chad had asked Mark to participate in the new book, but Mark was unable to participate due to time commitments. Luckily, Chad was able to find nearly 20 other popular Disney-focused writers (including MousePlanet’s Jim Korkis) to provide 28 great essays on various aspects of the Walt Disney World Resort.

Chad and Mark touched on some of the stories in the book, such as Foxx Nolte’s tale of George, the ghost who haunts the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction, and Sam Gennawey’s look at EPCOT from an urban planning point of view. (One of the next books from Chad’s Ayefour Publishing will be from Sam.)

Chad and Mark talked about how Disney stories about the same subject can differ depending on who tells the story, and some other interesting aspects of the different stories in the book.

Mark and Mike talked a bit about the stories that they might share in a future edition of the book. Mike discussed his experiences with the cast member canoe races while working at the Pop Century Resort (& Spa?), while Mark talked about some of the unique attractions originally slated for the Magic Kingdom before budget limitations pulled back the development costs and attractions from Disneyland Park were rebuilt at the park instead. There was much digression, as often happens on the MouseStation. Mike talked about a lonely day at Blizzard Beach, while Mark talked about “What Would Walt Do?” syndrome at the company from the late 1960s through the early 1980s.

Let us know what you think!

March of Dimes

MousePlanet readers and MouseStation listeners have helped Mark to raise nearly $19,000 for the March of Dimes over the last five years to help save the lives of babies born prematurely. This year, his goal is to raise another $5,000. But that’s not all! This year, you can walk with Mark, either in person or virtually, by joining Team MousePlanet! Mike has already signed on to walk as well. You can go to Mark’s fundraising page to sponsor him, Mike’s fundraising page to sponsor him, or the Team MousePlanet page to join in and walk yourself! If you join us in walking, the money you raise will go to help babies in your area! Help us to provide a better chance to prevent prematurity and to help those babies that are born prematurely, because new parents should take their babies home from the hospital, not to the cemetery.
