Feature: Going “Up”!
Mark started out by giving some box office figures for “Up”:
– Last week
– 2009
– Pixar, all computer animated
– All-time Disney
Mike loved the film, but couldn’t believe how many emotions it brought out.
Mark’s first thought that the movie was too blurry, but then he realized that it was due to the tears in his eyes. Quite a lot of the messages of the movie hit home for him. He was surprised how much it spoke to him.
Mark thought that they did a great job of establishing why Russell really wanted to earn that last Wilderness Explorer badge.
Mark mentioned that he had heard someone state that Pixar had gone from making movies that children loved with enough in them for adults to enjoy to making movies for adults with enough for kids to enjoy. He thinks that the youngest age that kids would enjoy this movie may be higher than that for other Disney movies. He also talked about – SQUIRREL – how some of the humor his family is still laughing about.
Mark talked a bit about the appearance of Charles Muntz, and how he thought that Muntz looked more like Kirk Douglas than Christopher Plummer. Mark wondered if Douglas was originally set tot record the part.
Mark addressed Mike’s thought that Carl appeared by be older than Muntz despite the face thad Carl was about 20 years younger than Muntz
