Featured Topic – NFFC Show & Sale

In this week’s feature, Steven Ng again joins Mark and Mike as he introduces
interviews with Steven joins Mark and Mike as he introduces interviews he
did with Tony Baxter, Margaret Kerry, Michael Broggie, the NFFC’s Anita and
Gary Schaengold and MouseStation listener Liana Kilgore.

This week’s show was on the long side, as we had lots of audio to fit in,
as well as commentary from Mark, Mike and Steven.

Gary Schaengold

Gary gave a quick overview of the NFFC Show & Sale, then talked about
the special 25th anniversary celebration of Tokyo Disneyland that the NFFC
is putting together.

There are three special meals that the NFFC is putting together, including
dinner at the Oceana Buffet at the Miracosta Hotel, and lunch at Tokyo Disneyland’s
Club 33.

Mark, Mike and Steven got into a discussion about Tokyo Disneyland’s Club
33. A good information source for Club 33 is MousePlanet reader and MousePad
member Opus1Guy’s web
site
, which also has some information about Tokyo’s
version
of Club 33.

Anita Schaengold

Anita is finally going to get an iPod and start listening to some Disney
podcasts!

She’s getting a lot more set in her position as VP of Marketing that she
was just starting out in when Steven talked to her last year. Anita’s looking
to do a lot more outreach to the various Disney web sites and podcasts in
the upcoming months.

Liana Kilgore

Steven ran into Liana, who has written and called in to the show a number
of times, and chatted with her briefly. We’ll have a lengthy email from her
on Friday’s show about the Snow White panel discussion at DCA.

Tony Baxter

Tony goes to each NFFC Show & Sale trying to find more Disneyland ticket
books that he does not yet own. It sounds like an amazing collection. (Though
when Disneyland put together the 50th anniversary exhibit in the Main Street
Opera House had a ticket collection from the Janzen brothers of “E Ticket”
magazine fame.)

Steven remembered when he foolishly converted all of his remaining tickets
to passports instead of holding on to them, including a couple of complete
booklets. Mark compared it to his grandfather throwing out all of his father’s
baseball cards, including a mint condition Mickey Mantle rookie card.

Mark again told his story about his memory of negotiating with his father
to buy extra tickets on his first trip to Walt Disney World in 1972.

Mike remembered working at Pop Century when a guest brought in some old tickets,
including A-E tickets and Epcot opening tickets, and asked where she could
convert the tickets. He told her that they were worth more than the conversion
value and that she shouldn’t turn them in, even though he was tempted to try
to buy them from her at a cut-rate price.

Margaret Kerry

Margaret is always a joy to talk to and listen to. She talked about seeing
the new Goofy short on How to Hook Up Your Home Theater. She and Steven discussed
the short for a while. They then talked about the panel discussion at the
El Capitan before the showing of 101 Dalmatians. She was at the event
with June Foray, who founded the Annie Awards. We’ll have more coverage of
this year’s Annies on the MousePlanetWatch news show tomorrow.

Margaret then talked about Tinker Bell Talks, her web
site
and her upcoming book. She also recommended that everybody go buy
Return
to Neverland
before it disappears from the shelves.

In talking about the Goofy film afterwards, Mark first noted that he heard
about the short from Bill Farmer before his
interview
with Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and Pluto last January. He also noted
that the short reminded him of Weird Al Yankovic’s “Frank’s 2,000 Inch
TV”. (fan

Michael Broggie

Michael talked a bit about the Carolwood
Pacific Historical Society
and its commitment to preserving steam trains.
He noted that they have events at Walt’s railroad barn the third Sunday of
each month from 11 am to 3 pm. (It has been relocated from Walt’s old house
in Holmby Hills to Griffith Park on the grounds of the Los Angeles Live Steamers
Railroad Museum.) Admission and parking are free.

Michael then spoke about his father, Disney Legend Roger Broggie, then talked
some more about events that the CPHS will be holding this year.

Mark mentioned that his memory of Michael Broggie that stands out in his
mind was when Michael spoke up during the Q&A portion of the 2004
Disney Shareholder Meeting
and told Michael Eisner that “for the
good of the company, you have to resign.”
