Feature: Jiminy Cricket on Jack Benny
Eddie Carroll, the voice of Jiminy Cricket, talked to Steven Ng at last summer’s NFFC All Disneyana Show & Sale about his other passion – his one-man show about Jack Benny – plus his favorite Disney attractions and more.
Eddie started by telling Steven about how he had been “auctioned off” at the summer NFFC convention, along with former Imagineer Terri Hardin, Tinkerbell’s life model Margaret Kerry and Paige O’Hara, the voice of Belle. Each of the winning groups would get a day at the Disneyland Resort with “their” celebrity. Eddie took his guests on all of his favorite rides, and they had a great time.
Steven shared his memories of Jack Benny and of Benny’s death.
Eddie described how Jack Benny’s radio and TV shows changed how celebrity variety shows were done, adding a storyline to carry the show. He also described how Benny’s on-screen persona was so at odds with his actual personality.
Steven asked Eddie about Benny’s interactions with Walt Disney and Don Rickles. Eddie also talked about George Burns’ secret to a long life.
Eddie talked about the schedule for his one-man show about Jack Benny, Laughter in Bloom. He mentioned some of the upcoming show locations, though a couple of them are not listed on the schedule page on his site.
Steven will be at this weekend’s NFFC All Disneyana Show & Sale with his recording equipment. If you can spot him, have him let you record something for the show and we may use it on air.

Twitter/Facebook poll questions
Here are the responses to some questions that Mark was asking on Twitter and Facebook in the last week. If you’d like to get in on answering these questions in the future, you can follow Mark on Twitter or friend him on Facebook.
What is your favorite Disney theme park music?
- Pretty much anything from Epcot. Everything from the entrance music, to the music they play around the fountain, to the attractions such as Soarin’. Of course, Tomorrowland background music is way cool too!
- geez Mark, that’s like asking to pick a favorite child….it’s a tie between Soarin’ and Fantasmic
- epcot hands down
- +1 (Soarin’ and Fantasmic)…. those are some of the best soundtracks there are! (although – i still have a soft spot for the Electrical Parade “Baroque Hoedown” soundtrack too)
- Yeah, “Main Street Electrical Parade” is a lovely, uplifting, pleasant piece of music. I also like baroque music, anyway.
- I love the music from Illuminations!
- Epcot entrance music. Hands down. I don’t know what the song is but when I hear it while walking from the busses to Epcot entrance, I get the warm feeling that I am home.
- Fantasmic, Illuminations, and Finding Nemo the Musical. Couldn’t possibly choose.
- Splash Mountain!!
- Main Street Electrical Parade!
- The loop from Wonders of Life, hands down. Maybe Innoventions second.
- Horizons pavilion and ride through, actually any EPCOT ambiant music is great.
- Tossup between Soarin’ and Illuminations.
- I love the tomorrowland music
- Adventureland background music
- It’s a three-way tie for me – background music from the Disneyland Esplanade/MK Entrance, BGM from Main Street USA, or the Sunshine Plaza BGM from DCA.
- NOS has got to be the best!! You just know u are there in the middle of the magic & can take a moment to relax when u hear that!!!!! Or the music of the organ playing as u enter the haunted mansion.. Love it!!
- MNSSHP soundtrack is awesome! Ditto the Jammin’ Jungle parade. But for typical in-the-park background music, I like Epcot.
- Favorite music: 1) Mansion 2) Pirates 3) Fantasyland
- Mine is Fantasmic!
- I love Fantasmic, too!
- Epcot enterance music
- pre-Illuminations musid ..circa early 2000’s. Not what they play now. I also love @loslawnboys (Mulch, Sweat & Shears) & Off Kilter!
- discovery island at animal kingdom.
- Fave music = old EPCOT Entrance Medley
- Choosing my favorite theme park music is hard because its all so good. Today, I’ll say Soarin. Tomorrow it could be something else
- Reflections of Earth
- Attraction? The Haunted Mansion. Show? The soundtrack to “Remember, Dreams Come True”
- Rocketeer theme playing at Epcot fountain.
- horizons theme spng
- My fav music is Illuminations: Reflections of Earth. 2nd is Dancin’ A Catchy Rhythm from DLRP
- Either Illuminations Soundtrack or Soarin’ Soundtrack! Nothing better!
- It has to be the music from American Adventure in epcot world showcase! Gives me goosepimples when I hear it!!
- Fav music is “Pirates of The Caribbean” (Ho Ho Ho Ho A Pirates Life For Me)
Mike surprisingly did not select the Festival of the Lion King, but rather went with the Epcot Entrance Loop.
Mark’s favorite was no surprise, as he picked Illuminations: Reflections of Earth, with Soarin’ as a second choice. The Innoventions Loop and Epcot Entrance Loop were runners-up.
Again, if you’d like to get in on answering these questions in the future, you can follow Mark on Twitter or friend him on Facebook. We’re also going to try an experiment with listing next week’s question here in the show notes. So for next Thursday’s show:
- What is your favorite “distraction” while waiting in theme park queues?
Send us your answer, and also let us know whether you like us including the poll beforehard, or if you liked it better when the poll question was only posted on Twitter or Facebook.
