Tip of the Week
This week’s tip comes via Facebook from Vance Cope, who suggests a way to save money by buying entrees only at quick-service meals and just splitting one order of fries between your party.
Mark and Mike digressed into a discussion of french fries vs. onion rings, Flame Tree Barbeque, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Feature: Jiminy Cricket’s New Voice
Steven Ng talked with Phil Snyder, who took over as the voice of Jiminy Cricket following the passing of Jiminy’s previous voice, MouseStation favorite Eddie Carroll.
Phil had actually been scheduled to stand in for Eddie about 20 years ago when Eddie’s schedule would not allow him to record something for Disney. With Eddie’s passing, Phil got the call to come back and voice the character. Phil is only the third voice of Jiminy Cricket. Disney designates “official” voices of characters, and keeps the voice actors in the roles for as long as possible to ensure consistency in the voice.
Phil’s first project as the voice of Jiminy Cricket was for the computer game Kingdom Hearts: Recoded for the Nintendo DS. He had also done some theme park recordings for Disney, including a promotional voiceover as the voice of Rex, the Star Tours pilot.
Phil talked a bit about how he got into voice acting, and bit about what he’s doing now in addition to the Disney gig. You can check out his website, or visit his philsnydernet and phoolholy YouTube channels.
Phil mentioned a magical moment about how he ran into Les Perkins, the person who originally lined him up for Eddie Carroll’s backup 20 years earlier, when he went in to record a commercial for Disney Home Video.
Phil left with a song and an inspirational message.
We’d like to thank Phil for sitting down with Steven, and Steven for bringing the interview to us.
Mark and Mike talked a bit about the transition of character voices and how each new person brings something different to the character voice when they take it over. Mark talked about how we compare each person who performs a character’s voice against the others who had done it in the past.

March of Dimes
MousePlanet readers and MouseStation listeners have helped Mark to raise nearly $19,000 for the March of Dimes over the last five years to help save the lives of babies born prematurely. This year, his goal is to raise another $5,000. But that’s not all! This year, you can walk with Mark, either in person or virtually, by joining Team MousePlanet! Mike has already signed on to walk as well. You can go to Mark’s fundraising page to sponsor him, Mike’s fundraising page to sponsor him, or the Team MousePlanet page to join in and walk yourself! If you join us in walking, the money you raise will go to help babies in your area! Help us to provide a better chance to prevent prematurity and to help those babies that are born prematurely, because new parents should take their babies home from the hospital, not to the cemetery.
Listener Feedback
Mary Tesch wrote in to thank Kim Liddle for her suggestion for Mary’s son’s birthday at Disneyland. However, Mary would really like to celebrate his birthday somewhere on Disney property but outside the parks. If you have a suggestion for Mary, please let us know and we’ll pass it along.
Donna S. wrote in via Twitter to Mark to talk about her family’s encounter with a free-roaming Mickey Mouse character at the Magic Kingdom about 10 years ago.
David from San Diego sent us an email to let us know that he just started listening to the podcast and shared some of his thoughts on the “Next Generation” initiatives. He was interested in a mobile application that would let him know when a particular character is out and about to help his young daughter be able to meet characters. Mark mentioned Disney’s Mobile Magic app for Verizon customers, which does have a character locator function.
