Listener Feedback Friday!

In this week’s Listener Feedback:

We’re getting voicemail again! Our first voicemail came from Kim Barron,
who called in her Top 3 for Disney’s Animal Kingdom:

  • Dining
    • 3. Flame Tree BBQ
    • 2. Rainforest Cafe
    • 1. Tusker House
  • Live Entertainment
    • 3. Flights of Wonder/DiVine (tie)
    • 2. Festival of the Lion King
    • 1. Finding Nemo – The Musical
  • Attractions
    • 3. Dinosaur
    • 2. Kilimajaro Safaris
    • 1. Expedition Everest

Thomas wrote in to pass along more information about the iHome alarm clocks
being installed in the rooms at the Contemporary and Grand Floridian Resorts.
We ended up getting so involved in the technical points that we forgot to
answer his question about whether or not we thought that they would be rolled
out in other resorts or the cruise ships. (It wouldn’t be surprising to see
them at least roll out into all deluxe resorts. Beyond that, it’s a good question.)

Alex from Houston wrote in to wish us a happy anniversary, to ask about the
delayed publish for last Friday’s anniversary show and to follow up on his
Animal Kingdom Top 3 from last week. On the delayed publish, due to Steven’s
late return from the International Consumer Electronics Show, he was not able
to complete editing on the show until mid-day Eastern Time on Saturday, so
the show was published shortly after that.

We got a voicemail from Tonya from Bonney Lake, Washington, who wished us
a happy anniversary, flattered us by telling us that we’re her favorite podcast,
and asked for advice for about traveling to Disneyland with a large party
since she and 10 friends are going in May. Mike gave some good tips, and we
also responded to her wondering whether RideMax
would help. We again said that many people have found it helpful, but that
we haven’t used it. Mark is still planning to meet up with RideMax’s Mark
Winters to try it out on his next trip.

Arnold van Beverhoudt from St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, wrote in with
a great story of his first visit to Walt Disney World (in response to Episode
117
, where Steven Ng joined us and we discussed our first visits.

Arnold’s first visit was in July 1973, when he was 22 and visited with his
younger brother when they were in Miami visiting with family friends. They
took a 2-day bus tour to the Kennedy Space Center and Walt Disney World. He
echoed Mark’s memories of the park having a much more wide open feeling than
it does today.

He also recalled his first visit with his wife and daughter in July 1982.

He shared a link to pictures from his family’s menu visits to Walt Disney
World on his personal
web site
.

Deb from Michigan really enjoyed the first visit show, and suggested that
we ask everyone that we interview about their first visit. We may add that
to our standard question about Magical Moments.

Jay Thompson wrote a novel about his first visit. It’s a great story about
visiting with his family in 1989 as part of a 10-week trip around the country
in an RV. It’s a wonderful story, but it’s very long, so you’ll have to listen
to the podcast to hear the whole thing.

Shawn Coomer (who
is currently in Australia) checked in to suggest a featured topic show on
the makeover of Disney’s California Adventure. It’s a great idea, but since
we’re kind of irregular visitors to the Disneyland Resort, we’re trying to
come up with a format that will bring in some of our West Coast folks and
have a roundtable discussion.

Damian Thomas asked what crowds are like at Disneyland and Disney’s California
Adventure on Super Bowl Sunday. Since Mike and Mark aren’t West Coasters,
they asked West Coast correspondent Andrew Rich, who hasn’t been there on
Super Bowl Sunday in a number of years, but didn’t remember it being as different
than any other Sunday.

Stuart Sternberg wrote to ask about whether or not it’s worth using a Disney
specialist travel agent, and whether we have any recommendations. We suggested
that he listen to Episode
26
, where we focused on whether or not to use Disney specialist travel
agents. We were joined on that show by Sue Pisaturo of Small
World Vacations
, MousePlanet’s preferred Disney travel provider.

for a few hours. He will have his portable recording equipment with him, so
look for him if you want to record a message for the podcast. You can find
him or follow his adventures on his twitter
