Listener Feedback Friday!

In this week’s Listener Feedback:

Drew Senney from Cleveland, OH wrote in with his Top 3 lists for all Walt
Disney World parks:

  • Dining
    • 3. Le Cellier
    • 2. Popcorn Stand in the Magic Kingdom
    • 1. Rose & Crown Pub & Dining Room
  • Live Entertainment
    • 3. Mike & Sully Meet-n-Greet at Disney’s Hollywood
      Studios
    • 2. SpectroMagic Parade
    • 1. Illuminations: Reflections of Earth
  • Attractions
    • 3. Expedition Everest
    • 2. Twilight Zone Tower of Terror
    • 1. Splash Mountain

Drew also had an interesting idea for a new Top 3 list: a Bottom 3 list.
He included his own list, as well:

  • Dining
    • 3. Pretzels in Germany
    • 2. Turkey leg stands
    • 1. “Slushy in Japan” (we think he means
      the Kaki Gori)
  • Live Entertainment
    • 3. Disney Stars and Motor Cars Parade
    • 2. Disney Dreams Come True Parade
    • 1. “Any character at a meet and greet that
I have no idea who they are”
  • Attractions
    • 3. Enchanted Tiki Room – Under New Management
    • 2. Sounds Dangerous
    • 1. The car ride leaving Disney

Alex from Houston wrote in to thank us for sending along a link to the Orlando
County Convention Center’s events calendar and to put in another plug for
adding even more shows per week. Alex noted that he seems to be sending in
feedback every week. We don’t mind getting repeat feedback from folks, as
it’s nice to have some regulars. (Maryanne Fekete, where are you?)

Justin wrote in with his Top 3 for all Walt Disney World parks:

  • Dining
    • 3. Sunset Ranch Market
    • 2. A tie between Flame Tree BBQ and the ABC Commissary
    • 1. San Angel Inn
  • Live Entertainment
    • 3. Fantasmic!
    • 2. Finding Nemo the Musical
    • 1. Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show
  • Attractions
    • 3. Rock ‘n? Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith
    • 2. Space Mountain
    • 1. Expedition Everest

Mark and Mike got into trying to guess how old Justin is based on the comments
in his email.

Chris Martinez answered the question from Bob Peterson that we read two
weeks ago
about the music accompanying the video montage at the beginning
of recent Disney DVDs. Chris recognized it immediately, but was puzzled by
its use on a Disney DVD. The music is from Robin
Hood: Prince of Thieves
. Mark noted that Billy Joel also played that music
before his show during one concert tour.

And, of course, Mike got another backer for his “Simba Rules” club.

Jonathan Shain wrote in to compliment us on the show and to let us know that
he really enjoyed the sound clip from Bob Iger during the news story about
the first quarter earnings conference call. It provided him with a great deal
of insight into the leveraging of Disney characters across the various businesses.
In general, Jonathan enjoys hearing the news about the rest of the Walt Disney
Company on the MousePlanetWatch news show, and the audio clip was a bonus.

We’re pretty certain to feature more audio clips from this year’s annual
shareholder meeting on the MousePlanetWatch news, and may even do a full feature
show based on the shareholder meeting with lots of audio.

He also stuck a pin in the Frappr map, but wasn’t sure how to add a photo.
Mark had Mike run through the instructions on how to add a photo with their
pin at the end of the show.

Kate Tillan sent us two emails. In the first one, she told us how excited
she was to win the MouseFest division of the Virtual MouseAdventure and how
much fun it was to meet both of us at MouseFest. It was great for us to meet
Kate. She’s really a very sweet person. We’re looking forward to seeing her
again at MouseFest 2008.

Kate’s second email had her Top 3 list for all Walt Disney World parks:

  • Dining
    • 3. Le Cellier
    • 2. Hollywood Brown Derby
    • 1. Chefs de France
  • Attractions
    • 3. Tie between Soarin’ and Mickey’s PhilharMagic
    • 2. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
    • 1. Test Track
  • Live Entertainment
    • 3. Mickey’s Boo to You Parade
    • 2. Wishes
    • 1. Illuminations: Reflections of Earth

Kate noted that she has the CD for all of her favorite live entertainment
selections. Mark and Mike noted that they have all of that music, as well.
Mike tried to one-up Mark by saying that he owns the six-disc Disneyland 50th
anniversary set, but then Mark reminded him that he was the one that told
Mike about the set in the first place. Mark had been monitoring the release
status through Trent Schwartz’s wonderful Magical
Music of the Mouse
site, a great place to check out if you’re into Disney
music.

Marian responded to Mark’s comment about loving to listen to Tim Curry’s
voice by recommending the audio books for Lemony Snicket’s A
Series of Unfortunate Events
book series, as Tim Curry narrates the entire
series. Mark might check them out, if he ever gets some free time.

Deidre Holladay-Hughes wrote to see if anyone could help her in her quest
to have Disney show positive stepmother images, instead of just wicked stepmothers.
After pointing out the fact that Giselle become a good stepmother in “Enchanted”,
he also noted that the Disney movies were based on fairy tales and other folk
tales (where the stepmother was already being depicted as evil) so the decision
to show an evil stepmother was not made by Disney.

Mark also noted that his parents got divorced and remarried when he was 11,
so he has had a stepmother and stepfather for well over 30 years, and Disney
movies never affected his feelings toward them. He was able to tell the difference
between movies and real life.

Wrapping up

On April 27, Mark will be walking to raise money for the March of Dimes for
the third time. Please consider supporting him. The March of Dimes mission
is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature
birth, and infant mortality.
