Listener Feedback Friday!

Before we got into the listener feedback, Mark congratulated Mike on the 14th anniversary of The Lion King, which opened 14 years ago this past Tuesday, which was when the show was recorded. Mike mentioned that he was almost 8 when the movie was released, while Mark said that he was 30. Thankfully, while Mark is old enough to be Mike’s father, he is not, in fact, his father.

In this week’s Listener Feedback:

Liana wrote in to say that she was disappointed that there was no engagement photo in the show notes for episode 207. (You can see a nice one here.)

She’s hoping to ride Toy Story Mania soon, but doesn’t think that it would be the next weekend. We hope that she gets to bring her daughter Lilly to ride it soon.

She also just joined the NFFC and went to her first chapter meeting. She’s looking forward to seeing Steven participate on the podcasting panel at next month’s NFFC convention. Mike and Mark would like to be there as well, but they won’t be able to get out to the West Coast. Subject to possible schedule changes, the panel will be at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, July 18.

There is no chapter in upstate New York, and Mark never seems to be in Florida when the World Chapter is holding a meeting.

Big Brian called in in response to the email about Reedy Creek Emergency Services, and was disappointed that Mark didn’t mention anything about Disney having the first E-911 emergency system in Florida. In looking up to confirm his facts, he found the reference in Wikipedia for Vista-United Telecommunications, that they were the first company to use underground cabling, the first to use fiber optic cable to provide service to customers, and the first company in Florida to activate 9-1-1 emergency dialing. That information was attributed to an article that Mark wrote back in 2004. Mark noted that the information was not original to him, but rather came from one of the books referenced in the series bibliography for his History of the World articles. (Of course, it seems that the bibliography did not get moved forward with the series during the site redesign, but it still exists on the old version of the site.) The most likely source for this information was the Jeff Kurtti book, but it’s also possible that it came from one of the Bob Thomas books.

Jonathan McCrae checked in with an e-mail to thank us for getting out the information about the Disney Graduate Program, since he otherwise wouldn’t have known about it to apply for it.

He interviewed a few weeks ago, and got his acceptance e-mail on June 16. He got his third choice and starts in Main Entrance Operations on October 5. So he’ll be working the front gate at the Magic Kingdom. Mark will try to touch base with him on his fall research trip.

Jonathan also congratulated Mike and Nora on their engagement. He also is 50/50 in the Simba/Nemo debate.

Reader Mike sent in an e-mail stating that we had the wrong monorail colors, accusing us of naming teal instead of lime. Mark noted that Mike had read the show notes without listening to the show, as the show notes said teal, but we said lime on the show. Mark was writing the show notes in the wee hours of the morning (much like he is with these) and wrote the wrong name. (And the show notes are fixed now, too.)

Melanie wrote in to congratulate Mike and Nora on their engagement, then praised Mark Silverman’s vocal abilities but took him to task over his “sour grapesy” comment about Howl’s Moving Castle losing the Oscar to Wallace and Gromit’s Curse of the Were-Rabbit. She also was upset that Aardman Animation got very little support from Dreamworks, which appeared to force them to hide ther British roots, and wished that Aardman had partnered with Disney instead.

Mark noted that the Disney Channel now runs Aardman’s Shaun the Sheep in many different countries. He also noted that, when you spend a lot of time on a project, it’s possible that you can’t help but to feel that the project is a lock for any existing awards or that it is the best of anythng in that category.

Pete Altemese wrote in to tell us that he won a pair of “dream” mouse ears on his most recent trip and that the only bad thing about it is the constant asking by his wife and children when they’re going back to Disney.
