Walt Disney World News

  • Spaceship Earth has had its return-from-refurbishment date on the official

Walt Disney World web site calendar pushed

back from November 14 to February 19. Imagineering has said that the

date was always early 2008 and the date hasn’t changed. Meanwhile, the capacity

of this attraction is now going to be sorely missed during the holiday season.

  • We’ve now got the new logo for Disney’s Hollywood Studios, which will

get its new name on January 7.

Studios logo. Images © Disney.

  • Next year’s Disney Vacation

Club Member Cruise will set sail September 21-25, 2008. Booking will

open on Saturday, November 17 at 9 a.m. EST. You can make your reservation

by calling either the regular DVC Guest Services line (800-800-9800) or

407-566-3800. Don’t worry if you get a long wait time, just stay on the

line to avoid losing your place in the queue. The cruise is once again expected

to sell out fast. More information is available on the DVC

    Member web site.

  • One of the people behind the pipe

bomb that exploded in a remote Downtown Disney parking lot on July 2

and another found on the Greeneway (S.R. 417) last week was Brandon Ryan

Woll, a 21-year-old server at the Swan and Dolphin Resort.

  • Construction Updates:
    • While Walt Disney Imagineering is getting a bit more cryptic, it appears

that they will be installing a number of locations for the reported

Kim Possible scavenger hunt around World Showcase.

    • There will be a great deal of work going on to re-level about 6 acres

of ground backstage at the Disney-MGM Studios and construct a costuming

building expansion in the middle of it. New speakers will be going in

onstage in the area between Indy, Star Tours and the Hat plaza.

    • The Holiday Inn on Hotel Plaza Boulevard has just signed a revised

lease with Walt Disney World to reflect a $51,642,000 construction loan

      related to its current refurbishment.

  • Quick takes:
    • The last running of the Disney Stars and Motor Cars Parade will be

on Sunday, March 9. The new Block Party Bash will then debut on Friday,

      March 14.

    • From November 13-15, the Orlando International Airport will be receiving

a visit from the new Airbus A380, the worlds largest passenger airplane.

If you’re lucky, you might catch a glimpse of the super-jumbo jet.

    • If any of you were lucky enough to attend the “An Evening with The

VOICES: Celebrating Twenty-Five Years of the Music of Derric Johnson”

event on Saturday night, featuring more than three-quarters of all of

those who have ever sung with the Voices of Liberty, please write in

and let us know about it!

This and other news can be found in this week’s Walt

Disney World Park Update.

Disneyland News

  • While Disneyland was not directly

affected by the wildfires raging in Southern California during the last

week and a half, some entertainment offerings were canceled or modified

due to weather and air quality. Disney-owned hotels will waive

cancellation fees for visitors who canceled trips due to the fires.

The Walt Disney Company also announced a $2

million donation to aid victims of the Southern California fires.

  • Tickets for the Candlelight

Processional go on sale on November 19. When they do go on sale (not

now), you can buy them here.

  • This and That:
    • The 2007 CHOC / Disneyland Resort Walk in the Park, held October 21,

raised a record $1.6 million for Children’s Hospital Orange County.

the Unites States last week, including November 6-8 at the Landmark

La Jolla Village Cinemas in La Jolla, CA. Call (619) 819-0236 for ticket

      information and showtimes.

    • Cal State Fullerton’s Real Estate and Land Use Institute has scheduled

a public forum to further discuss proposed development in the Anaheim

Resort area Thursday evening at 6:45 p.m. in the Portola Pavilion at

      the Titan Student Union.

    • Disneyland Resort annual passholders can pre-purchase the DVD or Blu-Ray

releases of Pirates of the Caribbean – At World?s End and receive a

promotional limited-edition matte art piece. The single-disc DVD is

priced at $19.99, the 2-disc Limited Edition DVD and the Blu-Ray version

are priced at $24.99. Shipping is $3 per order. Contact Disneyland DelivEARS

      at 800.362.4533 or via e-mail.

  • Andrew’s Walt Disney World trip report, mentioned in the Disneyland News segment,

    is on MousePad.

This and other news can be found in this week’s Disneyland

Park Update.

The Walt Disney Company News

  • Disney CEO Bob Iger spoke at the Forbes Magazine MEET (Media, Electronic

Entertainment, Technology) Conference where he noted that in order to beat

content pirates, Disney had to make its product available for sale in any

form, anywhere, legally. However, there are some limits, as Iger made a

much-quoted comment about BitTorrent that “We don’t really want to put a

Disney movie on a digital platform on the same page as ‘Best Breasts on

the Web.” See some video from his appearance here.

  • Disney has named Mahesh Samat as Managing Director for The Walt Disney

    Company (India).

  • The Walt Disney Company announced that it will contribute $2 million in

aid towards relief efforts for the nearly one million victims of the Southern

    California wildfires.

  • THQ has announced two

new video games based on Ratatouille (Nintendo DS and Playstation 3) and

Cars (Xbox 360, Playstation 2 and 3, Nintendo Wii, Nintendo DS, Nintendo

Game Boy Advance, and Windows PC).

  • On the low-tech game front, Disney and Brio

have agreed on a deal for wooden toys featuring the Playhouse Disney characters,

    including Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.

  • Disney placed four movies in the top ten in last weekend’s box

office, three from Buena Vista Pictures Distribution and one from Miramax.
