Walt Disney World News

  • Happy Birthday, Epcot! EPCOT Center opened on October 1, 1982. The park
was rededicated on Monday is a wonderful ceremony.
  • The second Year of a Million Dreams has been officially announced. You
can see all of the new dreams available in the online Disney
    Dreams Catalog
. Mike’s pick would either be Walt’s apartment in the
old Disney Gallery or Grand Marshal Around the World. Mark’s top pick would
have been the Grand Marshal Around the World, except they added the Sorcerer’s
    Apprentice prize this year.
  • Disney Vacation Club members with ownership interests in the Old Key West
Resort have begun receiving their lease
    extension packets
    in the mail.
  • Extremely limited room-only
    discounts
are available through the end of the year.
  • The Disney Professional
    Internship program
    is accepting
    applications
through tomorrow, so if you’re interested, hurry up and
    apply!
  • Tusker House is now accepting
    reservations
, though it seems that Yak & Yeti will be waiting a
bit longer, though it seems to have an official opening date of November
    15.

This and other news can be found in this week’s Walt
Disney World Park Update
.

We’ve been summarizing just portions of the weekly Walt Disney World Park
Update on each show because we had received feedback that you didn’t want
to hear the same thing that you already read on Monday, so we just hit the
high points for those who hadn’t read it. Please let
us know
if you would like us to continue as we have been, to start reading
or summarizing the entire Update, or to just drop the Walt Disney World news
entirely and only report corporate news.

Disneyland News

  • The second Year of a Million Dreams was
    announced
on Monday. You can check out the Dream
    Catalog
    and official
    rules
    online.
  • A San Diego man claims that Disney security targeted
    him
because he was holding hands with another man. The incident was
    reported in The
    Advocate
. While the events were not in question, there is still a disagreement
as to whether it was discrimination or a misunderstanding.
  • The 70th anniversary of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will
    be celebrated
at the Disneyland Resort. The announcement and package
    information are available
    online
    .
  • A Toy Story zoetrope has been installed in the Disney Animation building
    in Disney’s California Adventure.
  • The Disney Gallery web site is offering a set of Adora
    Belle
    Halloween dolls.
  • Cafe Orleans is releasing
a series of Nightmare Before Christmas-themed ornaments.

This and other news can be found in this week’s Disneyland
Park Update
.

The Walt Disney Company News

  • Disney announced in a press
    release
that it will discontinue its Disney Mobile service at the end
of the year. Customers needing assistance can call Guest Services at 1-866-DISNEY2
(347-6938) or go to the Disney Mobile web
    site
    .
  • Disney has announced
    a deal
with KB Home to showcase Disney home furnishings in their model
    homes. They’re also conducting
    a promotion
to give away some of those furnishings.
  • Stephen Slesinger Inc. is appealing
    yet another loss
in its suit against Disney to get more money out of
the contract for the use of the Winnie the Pooh characters. They lost in
the California Court of Appeals last week, and so are appealing to the California
    Supreme Court.
  • A bunch of Disney Records stars will appear
    on milk containers
as part of the new Milk
    Rocks!
    promotional campaign.
  • George Bodenheimer, President of ESPN and ABC Sports and Co-Chairman of
Disney Media Networks, is number four on the list of BusinessWeek’s Power
    100
most powerful people in sports. He’s one of five ESPN executives
    on the list.
  • The League of American
    Theaters and Producers
    and Broadway
    Stagehands Union Local 1
    are still
    in talks
over a new contract. Any job action would threaten the opening
    of Disney’s
    The Little Mermaid
    .
  • The opening of The
    Game Plan
gave Disney a new number one this
    weekend
at the box office, a nice refresher since all other Disney-released
movies had dropped off of the radar.
