Featured Topic – Star Wars Weekends with Adriana Lopez
NOTE: This show has been removed from the feed at Disney’s request, and we’ll be posting a new show with an even better Star Wars Weekends interview very soon.
In this week’s feature, Mark interviews Adriana Lopez, Associate Brand Manager for Star Wars Weekends.
Mark asked Adriana whether there was any new events for this year’s Star Wars Weekends. Adriana noted that the Behind the Scenes feature this year will feature a presentation on Star Wars: The Clone Wars. There will also be walkaround characters of Stormtrooper Donald, Leia Minnie, Darth Goofy and – from The Clone Wars – Anakin’s Padawan, Asoka.
There will be lots of new merchandise and surprises this year, and character photos this year will have special backdrops for everyone.
There are the usual array of events this year, including meet-and-greets with Star Wars celebrities:
- June 6-8: Boba Fett Weekend: Jeremy Bulloch (Boba Fett) and Daniel Logan (young Boba Fett)
- June 13-15: The Guys in the Suits Weekend: Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) and David Prowse (Darth Vader)
- June 20-22: Amy Allen (Ayla Secura) and Matthew Wood (General Grievous)
- June 27-29: Jake Lloyd (young Anakin) and Dave Filoni (producer of The Clone Wars)
Warwick Davis (Wicket) will again be the host of all of the weekends, and the “talk show” with the celebrity guests will take place in the former Hunchback Theater.
7’3″ Peter Mayhew, who portrayed Chewbacca the Wookiee, and 3’6″ Warwick Davis, who portrayed Wicket the Ewok, discuss the Star Wars movies during the 2006 edition of Star Wars Weekends at the Disney-MGM Studios. Photo by Brian Warneke.
For the young Padawans, there is the Jedi Training Academy (on its new permanent stage) and the Padawan Mind Challenge, a trivia contest for kids.
Taking a ride on Star Tours is always a centerpiece of the event, as well.
The Hyperspace Hoopla is a huge meet-and-greet party that ends the day with all of the characters.that will end each day of the event.
The 501st Legion is expected to make another appearance at each weekend.
Adriana did not have any information about the special merchandise or the Big Figs for this year. She couldn’t tell us whether the Star Wars Muppet figures will be just for Star Wars Weekends or if they will be general merchandise throughout the year. In any case, the main merchandise location for the event will be Wicket’s Warehouse, again located in Soundstage 1, and the line will likely run through Pixar Place.
There is a special mini-site for Star Wars Weekends that will give you access to a special map and character identifier sheet.
And, of course, Star Wars Weekends carries no additional charge other than your admission costs to Disney’s Hollywood Studios on the days of the event.
So have you gone to Star Wars Weekends? Are you looking forward to this year’s event? Does the lack of new events make you less interested? What do you think? Let us know by sending us an email or calling our toll-free feedback line (1-866-939-2278) and let us know what you think!
