Feature: Summer Nightastic takes on Harry Potter
Mark and Mike take a look at Walt Disney World’s Summer Nightastic promotion and consider whether it can bring guests back to Disney after they leave to visit Universal’s Harry Potter attractions.
You can see more about Summer Nightastic in Jeff Kober’s article from last Thursday and in this week’s Walt Disney World Resort Update.
Major components:
- Main Street Electrical Parade will return to the Magic Kingdom, putting SpectroMagic on hiatus
- Wishes will go on hiatus for the summer, being replaced by a new, as-yet-unnamed fireworks show
- Twilight Zone Tower of Terror will gain a new drop sequence
Also included:
- Sounds Like Summer concert series returns
- Disney’s Animal Kingdom will stay open later many evenings during the week
This edition of the Main Street Elecrical Parade will be coming from Disney’s California Adventure, where it has been running as Disney’s Electrical Parade. The parade will be leaving DCA to allow the park to have some time to figure out how to handle the crowds for the World of Color nighttime spectacular. Floats that are new to Walt Disney World are the lead float featuring Tinker Bell (which replaced the Blue Fairy), as well as the Pinocchio and Snow White units. The floats have enhanced lighting using LEDs.
We really don’t have a lot of details about the new fireworks show.
In addition to the new drop sequence, the Tower is rumored to be getting new special effects, as well, including some sort of glow-in-the-dark effect.
Mike is most excited for the new fireworks display, while Mark can’t make up his mind between the return of the Main Street Electrical Parade and the new fireworks.
While it’s unlikely that Disney will be able to prevent guests from going to Universal’s Islands of Adventure park to see the big draw of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, the Summer Nightastic program does have the possibility to bring people back for the evenings, potentially taking the dinner business away from CityWalk and other Universal-area dining locations.
Mark and Mike also discussed the history of the drop sequences at the Tower of Terror.

Twitter/Facebook poll questions
Here are the responses to some questions that Mark was asking on Twitter and Facebook in the last week. If you’d like to get in on answering these questions in the future, you can follow Mark on Twitter or friend him on Facebook.
What do you think of Disney’s “Phineas and Ferb”?
via Facebook:
- Love it!!
- It’s one of my favorite shows! I think it has humor for both kids and adults, and that is one of the reasons why it’s so great. Love it!!!
- Best Ever!! Guilty of watching it even when the kids aren’t around!! Hubby loves it too!! S.I.M.P. ;o)
- Love.It. Love it. Love it. All 3 of my boys ( 5.5, 8.5 & 11) love it. The kids are respectful to adults. They even win over the bully. The siblings love each other (even if Candace DOES want to rat them out, P&F try to use their inventions to help her. They’re clever kids and it’s cool to be clever. Did I mention that we love this show???
- LOVE it!!
- Love it! I find myself watching it even when the kids are not around.
- Great show…fantastic writing and I love the music…really wish they had a bigger presence in the parks
- My son loves them. From the little I’ve seen they’re alright. I agree that there should be a greated presence in the parks for these characters. They appeal to a little older audiience that some other characters.
- Sounds like a Wrestling Tag Team
- I’ve never heard of it!!
- I agree, great show. My whole family loves it and the music is catchy — Gitchi, gitchi goo means that I love you…
- and the standard catch phrases never get old. “where’s Perry?”, “What cha’ doin?”, —-inator, “oh there you are Perry”…you know they’re coming in every episode
- LOVE IT. My 5 year old nephew and I watch it together and he actually gets many of the jokes. My favorite is the figgy pudding bit.
- I <3 Phineas & Ferb! Especially because P & F are always using their imaginations and creating things – NOT watching tv.
- I love the creativity, imagination, and silly fun.
- I love Perry’s adventures.
via Twitter:
- Honestly don’t know what they are!
- P&F is a really funny show. All of us in my family have our favorite moments, and the title song is one of my ear worms.
- I love Phineas and Ferb.
- It’s AWESOME!
- Love “P&F”. By far, the most entertaining and well-written kids’ show out there. Not sure who’s a bigger fan — me or my 3yo!!
- LOVE, LOVE, LOVE P&F! So clever and fun to watch. Great songs too.
- Never seen it!
- I posted a long reply on FB but we LOVE Phineas and Ferb. Love it!!
- I love them, Perry and doofenschmirtz. Kinda sad considering I’m 30 but i say my 2yr old watches it not me.
- HATE it. I don’t like the “see what you can get away with” attitude. Bad example for my kids.
Mark disagrees with the last sentiment, and thinks that they have no guidelines set up for them, so they’re not breaking rules, just having fun. Mark thinks it was Steven Ng who first said to him that Phineas and Ferb is like this generation’s Rocky and Bullwinkle because of all of the jokes that are strictly for grownups in addition to the jokes for kids.
Mike likes the show, especially the use of music in the show. He doesn’t think that they have a lot of supervision during the day.
Next week’s question: What type of Disney stuff do you prefer to collect?
March of Dimes
For the second year in a row, Mark has been named the top walker for the March of Dimes in New York’s Capital Region, and second overall in Northeastern New York (above the counties of Westchester and Rockland). MousePlanet readers and MouseStation listeners have helped Mark to raise over $15,000 for the worthy charity over the last four years. This year, his goal is to raise $5,000 again. But that’s not all! This year, you can walk with Mark, either in person or virtually, by joining Team MousePlanet! Mike has already signed on to walk as well. You can go to Mark’s fundraising page to sponsor him, Mike’s fundraising page to sponsor him, or the Team MousePlanet page to join in and walk yourself! Help us to provide a better chance to prevent prematurity and to help those babies that are born prematurely!
