The Toy Designer

September 11, 2013 by Karl Buiter

Learn about toy design with Jose Zamora as he talks about creative toy design and packaging. MousePlanet Video.

Disney Consumer Products showcased a behind-the-scenes pavilion at D23 Expo with art presentations and sales; interactive exhibits; and events with character artists and product designers.

We met Jose Zamora, Manager of Product Development, Disney Consumer Products as he showed us the creative process behind developing the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Fly 'n Slide Clubhouse. Jose oversees Mickey and Minnie preschool toys for domestic and international licensees.

As Jose explained when designing this Clubhouse “One of things I like to emphasis is a lot of story, a lot of play. So I like to design things that have a beginning, a middle, and not quite an end. But that end leads you back to the beginning, gives you a reason to play with this toy over and over again.” Along with demonstrating many of the features of the Clubhouse children's toy, he showed us his electronic sketch monitor and discussed elements of successful product packaging.

The Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Fly 'n Slide Clubhouse presented in the video is part of the Fisher-Price catalog and is intended for children ages 2+.
