On today’s show, Mark and Mike take a look at some dos and don’ts for guests to help you be considerate of others in the parks with you.

General etiquette

• Do treat cast members with respect and understand that they are just people trying to do their job
• Do obey cast member directions
• Do remember that cast members must place safety above courtesy
• Do notify cast members if you notice a mess; don’t leave it for someone else to discover
• Do wait until you get to a designated smoking area before you light up
• Do restrict cigar smoking to locations that allow it, such as Sosa Family Cigars in Downtown Disney
• Do watch your language
• Do wear appropriate attire to the parks
  • nothing too revealing
  • nothing with offensive content

Walkway etiquette

• Don’t stop in the middle of the walkway and block traffic while having a conversation
• If the walkways are crowded, do be aware of everyone around you so that you don’t walk into them or push a stroller or wheelchair into them
• Do be aware of strollers and wheelchairs so that you don’t jump in front of them and get your heels crushed

Queue etiquette

• Don’t push forward in queue saying that you’re joining your party when your party is not there
• Don’t have one person hold a spot for a whole group; if the group isn’t ready to get in the queue, wait for them
• Don’t push past people who aren’t moving, encourage them to move forward
• Don’t yell at people going past in Fastpass queue, you could have gotten a Fastpass too
• Don’t sit on the handrails

Attraction etiquette

• Don’t take flash pictures inside attractions
• Don’t hold a conversation with somebody next to you during an attraction with a soundtrack and voiceovers
• Do move all the way down in your row in theaters when asked to do so by cast members – if crowds are small, they generally won’t ask you to move all the way across
• Don’t jump into small open spaces in front of families or small children waiting to see the parade or fireworks

Eatery etiquette

• When eating at a quick-service eatery, do clean your table when you leave
• Do read the menu boards at quick-service eateries while you are in line so that you are ready to order when you get to the podium

Twitter/Facebook poll questions

Here are the responses to some questions that Mark was asking on Twitter and Facebook in the last week. If you’d like to get in on answering these questions in the future, you can follow Mark on Twitter or friend him on Facebook.

If you could ask D23 to create more events that you would be likely to attend, what would they be?

• More events at wdw. Maybe after hour events at Epcot?
• well, if D23 added some extra events I would say some sort of backstage tour that was offered at WDW would be ideal.
• agreed…more WDW events (backstage tours, special events)…but also events in bigger metro areas like they did with a couple of the touring Broadway shows this summer for those not near the parks
• We need some more Florida events for sure, it seems geared toward the California fan but there are plently on the east coast. Remember the 1964 World’s Fair experiment?
• It’d be nice to see more events across the country
• for example, a D23-members only preview of an upcoming movie in several cities, not just at the El Capitan. I’m in southern California, but even I think the concentration of events is a little too heavy here! Personally, I’d love to see them also offer some more backstage stuff – like backstage tours at Disneyland or behind the scenes tours on the Disney Wonder and Disney Magic.
• It’s not so much what as it is where. Something closer to home than Anaheim would be great.
• something in the MidWest would be nice – IMAX of Nightmare Before Christmas?
• They used to have this for passholders…behind the scenes events of Disneyland. e.g. riding Space Mountain with lights on.
• stuff in the summer at wdw, because I have school. If the expo could be in the summer that would be awesome as well
• I would ask D23 to create events where you get to go behind the scenes of the attractions.
• I would Love to See a D23 Imagineering Tour at Disneyland Paris. Give us anything overseas 🙂
• if they were in the Chicago area I would be much more likely to go
• How about exclusive ride time in the parks, or even regional meets with special guests!
• I’d love to see D23 hold an NYC area speaking engagement with Imagineers including Dave Smith as a special guest speaker.

Mike would like to see something really cool with Disney Interactive, something in the Midwest, more regularly-scheduled events, and maybe events in each part of the country every few months. He’d also like to see traveling tours.

Mark thinks that it would be nice to see more events across the country on weekends to make it easy for folks to get to events. He would love to see D23 have movie premieres instead of just at the El Capitan, similar to what was done by the former Disney Club.
