Have you or a member of your party been so sick at WDW that you couldn’t go to the park? What did you do?

Lots of people wrote in, nearly everyone with a story of illness. Here are the narratives:

• Yup in 2007 we wnet on a trip to WDW and i ended spending 2 days of the trip confined to the Hotel room
• Been sick on DCL and at WDW (2 diff trips) I tried to press on anyway. Couldn’t taste castle dinner (too stuffy) and DCL (not seasick) but went on tours anyway. WDW, had to skip 1 day and sleep 🙁 Family went wtout me 🙁 Too expensive to not try to do as much as you can.
• we’ve missed part of the morning at the park with a sick kid, but we’ve never missed a full day.
• Yes – DH had medicine delivered to the room for me (Afrin and Chloraseptic), and he stayed and played video games while the girls went to the park. I couldn’t believe I was paying for a BCV room to sleep – ugh! Always take lots of meds with me on every trip now!
• Only once…1997 trip…spent morning n the hotel, rest of the day toughed it out in the parks.
• Years ago I got food poisoning from dinner at the Morrison’s Buffeteria on International Drive. Woke up in the middle of the night and was revisiting dinner, so to speak, for hours. I think we stayed in the room for the rest of that day and just hung out, watched TV and such…it was my parents and me. The Morrison’s has been out of business for several years. LOL, thank goodness.
• Hmmm…I got very sick on a Disney Cruise, once…stayed in the cabin and watched Disney movies and napped while Mindy sunned herself on Castaway Cay…
• Yep – got a really bad cold on my first vacation to WDW. I stayed in the room and napped for a day, and then when I was feeling slightly better went to Cinderella’s Royal Table, even though I could barely speak due to laryngitis. At least Suzy could be sure I wouldn’t be hitting on any princesses… 😉
• In 2000 I had an 18-month old with a high fever at WDW. The Contemporary Resort helped us get a doctor to visit to our room where he diagnosed double ear infection. We had to stay behind while husband and daughter went to the Water Parks that day. Fortunately it was early on in the trip that the antibiotics had time to take effect, or baby would not have been able to fly home (what a shame that would have been to extend vacation?)
• Well, yes, actually, and Eric and I went to California Adventure without our friends.
• I had stomach cramps and was up all night dry heaving, the next day i shut off the alarm slept till noon, then my friend and i wandered the resorts via downtown Disney busses. Finally, I got my second wind at 8PM and went to the MC for Extra hours.
• Almost. I was sick the week before our trip in 2005, but got better right before we left. WDW has that effect on me lol
• Both my kids, and I were so sick we had to go to celebration hospital, the emt’s picked us up from the all-star resort…Hotel management and hospital people were so helpful…
• Tracey was sick one time and I explored the resort (Pop) and took pictures while she rested.
• (Tracey’s response) thankfully I was only down for a few hours – takes more than an urpy tummy to keep me away from WDW!
• My wife got sick on a trip 2 yrs ago. We ended up going to a doc-n-a-box. She stayed out one day and was back at the prks the nxt.
• I have never been THAT sick, but if I was I would cry and I might see if I could milk it for special attention in some way 🙂
• Last visit the baby was barfing all day. She & I stayed in room mostly, explored resort. I read 3 novels. It wasn’t great fun.
• We went home. (I love being able to cheat on these polls)
• Very first trip to WDW w/ DD = ruptured ear drum. CentraCare with antibiotics, a day of rest and then back to the MK.
• That happened to me and @tmip last year when we did a joint family vacation. Seemed like each day another adult was incompasitated
• (@tmip’s response) yeah that was a good time… i think we lost about 5-6 “man days” of the trip to being sick.
• Over Memorial Day. Food poisoning (the irony). Lots of sleeping, mostly.
• My husband was sick so I just stayed in the room to take care of him. We extended our vacation an extra day to make up for it.
• I was sick, the last day of Mousefest…although, I forced myself to go to the parks. We had to leave that day too. Wasn’t pretty.
• Everyone else went, and I stayed behind and slept.
• I am fortunate that I’ve never been very sick while at Disney. Nothing worse than a slight cold. Have been sick after getting back.
• On our last trip I came down with a really bad cold so when we went to Blizzard Beach all I could do was sit in a lounge chair.
