In a written statement, Disney said, “all impacted workers will remain Disney employees through the duration of the furlough period,” which means the workers are still eligible for health care benefits; Disney additionally said it will cover the employee's healthcare contribution at this time. Furloughed cast will also retain access to the Disney Aspire education program.
The full text of the statement is as follows:
The COVID-19 pandemic is having a devastating impact on our world with untold suffering and loss, and has required all of us to make sacrifices. Over the last few weeks, mandatory decrees from government officials have shut down a majority of our businesses. Disney employees have received full pay and benefits during this time, and we’ve committed to paying them through April 18, for a total of five additional weeks of compensation. However, with no clear indication of when we can restart our businesses, we’re forced to make the difficult decision to take the next step and furlough employees whose jobs aren’t necessary at this time. The furlough process will begin on April 19, and all impacted workers will remain Disney employees through the duration of the furlough period. They will receive full healthcare benefits, plus the cost of employee and company premiums will be paid by Disney, and those enrolled in Disney Aspire will have continued access to the education program. Additionally, employees with available paid time off can elect to use some or all of it at the start of the furlough period and, once furloughed, they are eligible to receive an extra $600 per week in federal compensation through the $2 trillion economic stimulus bill, as well as state unemployment insurance.

We made the difficult decision to suspend these programs, based on guidance from leading health agencies as these participants live in dorm-like housing here at our Resort. We believe it's the right thing to do and is consistent with the way college and university programs are prioritizing social distancing. We are actively working with each individual to help them get home, including finding the right solution to each of their unique circumstances.
Disney College and International Programs suspended
Walt Disney World announced on April 6 it is working to help remaining participants in the Cultural Representative Program to return to their home countries by April 17, 2020. The participants will be paid through April 18, 2020, and will receive a lump-sum payment on April 9. Disney also said it will waive housing payments immediately.
On April 6, Disney announced that the Internship, College Program and Cultural Representative programs scheduled to start through early June, 2020 have been canceled. These participants will receive a refund of their program fees. Cultural Representatives will be invited back to complete their programs “when the time is right.” Disney says the eligibility requirements for all programs will be amended so that participants affected by this cancellation can reapply, even if they have already graduated from college.
Musical Acts End at Epcot
Orlando Sentinel tourism reporter Dewayne Bevil reports that Matsuriza, the drummers at the Japan pavilion, and British Revolution, the vocal quartet at the United Kingdom pavilion perform for the final time at Epcot, March 15, 2020.

— Dewayne Bevil (@ThemeParks) March 15, 2020
Credible social media posts suggest that several other contract Epcot musical acts at World Showcase also had their final performances on March 16; credible social media reports that Epcot musical acts comprised of Disney cast members have not been impacted beyond the temporary park closure, but are subject to furloughs.
Disneyland Resort, California
As of March 20, 2020, both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure are closed, as are the three Disneyland resort hotels and the Downtown Disney shopping area. On March 27, Disney announced these closures are until further notice – check the sections below for more detailed information about each category.
Future vacation reservations are currently available for travel dates July 1 and later. As always, Guests are able to modify these bookings if the Disneyland Resort opens before or after that time. See the Hotels section for more details and a special offer from Disney.
There have been no reported cases of COVID-19 at the Disneyland Resort, but the Resort is heeding a statewide “stay at home” order.

Non-essential cast furloughed
The Walt Disney Company announced on April 2 that it will furlough non-essential Cast Members based in the U.S. The furlough is effective April 19, 2020.
Disney CEO Bob Chapek announced he would take a 50% reduction in salary, and Disney executive chairman Bob Iger will waive his entire salary and car allowance. Senior executives in the company will also take pay cuts of 20% to 30%, depending on their role. The pay cuts are effective April 5, 2020.

Theme Parks, Annual Passports & Tickets Policy Changes
Theme Parks
Disneyland and Disney California Adventure closed on March 14. These closures are now until further notice.
Annual Passports
Disneyland announced the following changes to Annual Passport policies:
- Passholders who have paid in full for their Disneyland Resort annual passports can either opt to have the expiration date of their passport extended based on the length of the closure, or can request a pro-rated refund of the amount paid. Passholders must call 714-781-4567 to request a refund.
- Disney stopped collecting automatic payments for passholders on the monthly payment plan effective April 5, 2020, and will retroactively refund payments collected between March 14 – April 4, 2020. Payments will resume when the parks reopen, and passes will expire on the original date. Alternatively, passholders can call 714-781-4567 to request to have their contract extended. In this case, payments will resume when the parks reopen, and the expiration date will be extended based on the length of the closure. Payments will continue through the end of this new term.
- For Disney Flex Passholders, Disneyland will cancel reservations for the duration of the closure without penalty.
- Pass blockout and admission calendars will not be updated during the closure period. Additional details may be posted later.
Theme Park Tickets
Guests that have already purchased park tickets for visits between March 14 and 31, 2020, have the following options to visit the parks in the future:
- Unused 1-Day Tier 1-5 Tickets are valid through December 30, 2021. Valid dates of admission depend upon the type of ticket. Check the FAQ: disneyland.disney.go.com/faq/tickets/ticket-dates/
- Unused multi-day tickets are valid for a future visit through January 12, 2022.
- The expiration date of the promotional Southern California Resident ticket, originally May 21, 2020, will be extended day-by-day for each day the Disneyland Resort theme parks are closed.

- Unused Canada Resident Tickets or Australia / New Zealand Resident Tickets will now expire on January 13, 2021, or 14 days after the first use, whichever comes first. Customers who used the ticket for a first visit before March 13 but did not use all of the days on the ticket now have until December 15, 2020 to use the remaining days.

Special Events Tickets
During the temporary closure of the Disneyland Resort, Guests will be refunded the purchase price for any separately ticketed special events that were planned during the closure. Guests will automatically receive a refund within 30 days and do not need to contact the Disneyland Resort.
Grad Nite
Disneyland has cancelled all of the 2020 Grad Nite events. The popular annual events were scheduled to begin Friday, May 8 at the Disneyland Resort, and continue through Wednesday, June 13. The company has begun contacting group organizers, but also posted the following to the official Grad Nite website:
2020 Disneyland® Resort Grad Nite Update
While there is still much uncertainty with respect to the impacts of the unprecedented COVID-19 situation, the safety and well-being of our Guests and Cast Members remain the top priority of the Disneyland Resort. In light of recommendations by school and government officials to limit gatherings for the remainder of the academic year, we are making the difficult decision to cancel Disneyland Resort Grad Nite 2020.
Because Grad Nite events require a substantial amount of planning, coordination and travel, we felt that this was the right decision to make at this time. We know how disappointing this news will be to the many students who were planning to join us this year.
If you are a student or parent who is part of a group that was planning to attend Grad Nite 2020, please consult with your group organizer. We are reaching out to each confirmed group’s contact or travel planner with more information. As we anticipate a heavy volume of inquiries, we appreciate your patience as we work diligently to communicate with everyone.
We look forward to hosting Disneyland Resort Grad Nite next year and for years to come. Information about future events will be shared as soon as it becomes available.
Thank you for your understanding.

The Disneyland Hotel, Paradise Pier Hotel, and Grand Californian Hotel are now closed, as are all restaurants and stores at those properties.

Disneyland has posted a Special Offer for Guests who booked a vacation package or room reservation to stay at a Disneyland Resort hotel during the dates that the Disneyland Resort theme parks are closed and through May 31, 2020 if the reservations were not canceled before March 1, 2020. Starting Monday, March 30, 2020, these Eligible Guests can take advantage of a special Disneyland Resort offer — valid for arrivals most nights June 1 through December 31, 2020 when booked by May 31, 2020. Disney Vacation Club
Official information is posted at: disneyvacationclub.disney.go.com/travel-information/.
Additional Cancellation of Select Member Events information is posted at: disneyvacationclub.disney.go.com/member-events-temporary-cancellation/
In summary, Disney Vacation Club operations at all locations (including Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Vero Beach, Hilton Head Island, and Aulani) are closed until further notice. Member events and experiences are likewise canceled until further notice.
Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa, Ko Olina, Hawai'i, has a specific webpage with its travel alert posted at: https://www.disneyaulani.com/travel-advisory/
Like Disney's mainland resorts, Aulani donated its excess perishable food to a local community organization. Read more in Disney Parks Blog.
DVC properties at Walt Disney World and Disneyland direct guests to the travel advisory for the Resort where they are located. Webpages for Disney's Vero Beach and Hilton Head Island Resorts also direct guests to the Walt Disney World Resort travel advisory.
Vacation Points for canceled DVC reservations will be returned to the current use year, meaning they will not be placed in a holding account or forfeited. Borrowed Points used for canceled. reservations will be returned to the Use Year they were borrowed from regardless of arrival date (though DVC notes that it may take up to 15 business days for processing to be completed).
Reservations Points for canceled reservations at a Disney Collection Resort will be returned as Reservation Points to the current Use Year.
Reservations made with Banked Points or One-time use Points will be returned to the current Use Year.
On April 24, DVC notified members by email of additional temporary updates to its policies relating to certain points set to expire that were tied to reservations for stays between March 12 and the end of the closure period and temporary changes to rules for borrowing points. The specific details are also posted on this page of the DVC website. DVC also posted a FAQ which requires Members sign in on this page of the DVC website. In summary, for reservations during the closure period that were cancelled after February 29, 2020:
- 2019 Use Year Points for April and June that are set to expire in 2020 that were used for reservations during the closure period will be extended for one year from their original expiration.
- 2018 Use Year Points for April and June that were banked into 2019 and used for reservations during the closure period will be extended for six months from their current expiration period.
- Members with later Use Years should follow normal banking guidelines to bank current Use Year Vacation Points. Should a reservation be cancelled due to Resort closure after the close of the applicable banking window, an exception will be made to bank the allotted Points associated with the reservation.
- “One Time-Use Points” remaining from a cancelled reservation can be refunded upon request. Contact Member Services.
- Members that purchased Travelex Insurance and made a claim due to a cancelled reservation are still eligible for points extensions if they meet the other criteria.
- DVC will not use the 6-month extension on previously banked developer Points in the interest of supporting Member availability.
- Effective immediately, Members may only borrow up to 50% of their future Use Year Points per contract for new reservations (to the extent permitted by Home Resort Rules and Regulations). DVC says that “this will help manage inventory and accomodate more Members who want to schedule their vacations once the Resorts reopen.” The policy applies to all DVC reservations and exchanges. Members who book a new reservation or multiple reservations that exceed the 50% maximum will have their reservations cancelled automatically within 7 days.
- Points already borrowed for future reservations outside the closure period will be honored, even if they exceed the new 50% threshold. The temporary policy also excludes borrowed Vacation Points that would be applied to matched waitlists created prior to April 24 if the reservation requires more than the 50% threshold.
- DVC will continue to monitor inventory and re-evaluate, and has the “goal” of returning its standard policy as soon as appropriate.
- Disney and Concierge Collection Reservation Points from April and June 2019 Use Years that have expired or will expire during the closure period will be moved into the next Use Year as Reservation Points. Additional Use Year will be addressed on a case-by-case basis. Members with cancelled Disney Cruise Line voyages or Adventures by Disney trips due to the closure have been offered their choice of a full refund, the ability to rebook a new cruise/trip with additional credit or the option to “park” their cruise/trip for a later date.
- Members with a June Use Year that deposited points into the RCI system after March 12 may reverse that transaction and withdraw their points. Members with previously booked RCI reservations that were cancelled during the closures can continue to use the points within the RCI system until their expiration.
Disney Vacation Club also acknowledged that the condominium associations that make up the DVC properties anticipate lower operating costs as a result of the closures. DVC notes that it cannot predict what unanticipated additional costs will be required to reopen properties when it is safe to do so. DVC proposes to issue a credit to Members in mid-December when Annual Dues Statements for 2021 are distributed reflecting any operating surplus rather than rolling surpluses into reserves (which has been the usual policy following IRS and other guidelines mentioned at each year's Annual Meeting).
DVC Resorts, Members may, as always, make many reservation changes on the Disney Vacation Club. All Members can call Member Services at (800)800-9800, but be aware of the high call volume.
Registration for General Members for the Disney Vacation Club Moonlight Magic event scheduled at Epcot on June 29, 2020 has been postponed from April 16, 2020 to a date to be determined. Registration for that event for Members with Resort Reservations is full. Registration for the Typhoon Lagoon events has been postponed to a date to be announced.
On April 11, Disney Vacation Club announced that all Moonlight Magic events in April and May are cancelled.
runDisney
On March 20, runDisney announced they will cancel the Star Wars Rival Run weekend, originally scheduled for April 16-19 at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.
In an abundance of caution, the Star Wars Rival Run Weekend will be canceled. Click here below for more information:
— runDisney (@runDisney) March 20, 2020
The Disneyland Paris Princess Run, May 8-10, 2020, has also been canceled. Further information regarding refunds and exchanges is posted http://run.disneylandparis.com/disneyland-paris-princess-run. Disneyland Paris Run Weekend 5th Edition is still scheduled for September 24-27, 2020.
The Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend, November 5-8, 2020, remains on the schedule.
Disney Cruise Line
Official information is posted at: disneycruise.disney.go.com/guest-services/advisory/
Disney Cruise Line has suspended all new departures on the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy through May 17, 2020, those on Disney Magic through June 7, 2020, and those on Disney Wonder including its Vancouver Sailings (Alaska and Hawaii) until the end of June. Disney Cruise Line will offer a choice to passengers affected by this decision: a future cruise credit for a sailing within 15 months of the original sail date or a full refund, the details of which will be provided directly to the passenger or their travel agent by email.
Guests that booked directly with Disney Cruise line that have questions after receiving their email may call (866)325-2112 or (407)566-3510. Guests that booked through a travel agent should contact the travel agent.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control on April 9 announced an extension of a No Sail Order, originally issued on March 14, which prohibits ships carrying more than 250 people (inclusive of crew and passengers) from operating in, to, or from American waters for 100 days from April 9.
This order is in effect until July 18, 2020, unless it is rescinded or modified by the CDC, or until the U.S. government declares that COVID-19 is no longer considered a public health emergency. Even if Canada lifts its own restrictions on departures from Vancouver, Disney would not be able to sail to Alaska under the current CDC order.
If the CDC order is not rescinded early, then the Disney Cruise Line will need to cancel departures on all four ships through July 18, 2020.
Given the constantly changing nature of the situation, we strongly urge readers who are interested in booking a Disney Cruise for 2020 or 2021 to book through an authorized travel agent, like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today, who can help them reschedule their trip in the event their cruise is canceled.
There are a lot of great reasons to use a travel agent when booking a cruise, and now more than ever vacation planners will benefit from the extra services an agent can provide.
Crew
Thirty-eight crew members of the Disney Wonder cruise ship have now tested positive for COVID-19, according to a letter sent last week from the Disney Cruise Line to passengers who were aboard the ship during its Panama Canal cruise in March. The ship departed New Orleans on March 6, and was en route to San Diego when the Walt Disney company closed its domestic theme parks and began canceling future Disney Cruise line departures. The Wonder missed a call in Cartegena, Colombia for an unrelated medical issue, then bypassed scheduled calls in Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas before arriving in southern California.
While Disney Cruise Line says no passengers or crew reported COVID-19 symptoms during the cruise, the company notified passengers two weeks ago that some other passengers had begun to report symptoms after returning to their homes.

Disney Wonder April 5-10

Disney Wonder Hawaii and Alaska sailings
Passengers holding Disney Cruise Line reservations are justified in being concerned about their cruise being canceled or rescheduled, and MousePlanet unwittingly added to the uncertainty when we incorrectly reported that Disney had officially canceled the entire 2020 Alaska cruise season.
In fact, only a portion of the season has been officially canceled by the Disney Cruise Line, and the company is still accepting reservations for the nine remaining cruises of the 2020 Alaska season, currently scheduled to depart July 6 through September 7. We regret the error.
Though our reporting was inaccurate, there remains a very real chance that Disney will extend its cancellations well beyond the currently announced itineraries. When Disney first announced the change to the Alaska schedule back on April 6, the company cited a regulation put in effect on March 13 by the Canadian government that prohibits ships carrying more than 500 passengers from docking in any Canadian port until July 1, 2020 at the earliest.
Disney's Alaska cruises depart from Vancouver, BC, and the company said the cancellation of the May and June Alaska cruises was because “neither the Port of Vancouver nor an alternate home port is available.”
However, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control on April 9 announced an extension of its own No Sail Order, originally issued on March 14, which prohibits ships carrying more than 250 people (inclusive of crew and passengers) from operating in, to, or from American waters for 100 days from April 9.
Disney Magic European Sailings
Disney Magic sailings after June 7, 2020, have not yet been cancelled.
Guests booked on European sailings through the July 25 departure can change their reservation up until the day before embarkation and receive a 100% cruise credit for a future sailing within 15 months of their original sail date by calling DCL at (866) 325-2112 or (407) 566-3510 or their travel agent. The credit is non-refundable and standard prevailing rates will apply. Guests currently booked on July 13, 18 and 25 European Sailings may also delay their final payment until 30 days before sailing.
Alternatively, Guests booked on the July 13, July 18, and July 25, 2020 European sailings may delay their final payment until 30 days prior to their sailing.
Temporary Cancellation Policy Update
All Guests scheduled to depart on the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy between May 18 and May 31, 2020 can change their reservation up until the day before embarkation and receive a 100% cruise credit to be used for a future sailing within 15 months of their original sail date. The credit is non-refundable and standard prevailing rates will apply. Those who booked with Disney Cruise Line may call (866) 325-2112 or (407) 566-3510.

Adventures by Disney along with its river cruise sailings partner AmaWaterways, have decided to suspend all river cruise sailings and their associated Escape trips through June 28, 2020. Specifically, the following Adventures by Disney River Cruise sailings have been cancelled: Rhine River (June 14 & 28), Rhone River (June 11), Seine River (June 11), and Danube River (June 20 & 27). The associated Escapes cancelled are: Amsterdam (June 21 & July 5), Budapest (June 25), and Paris (June 9 & 18).
Adventures by Disney plans to move forward with any trip not listed, but it continues to make adjustments as necessary and will notify Guests immediately should there be changes to their itinerary. Guests that have booked air travel through Adventures by Disney are able to work directly with Adventures by Disney to change and/or cancel their air travel arrangements; those that booked on their own should contact their airlines directly.
Temporary Cancellation Policy Update
Adventures by Disney has made temporary adjustments to its terms and conditions to provide flexibility for guests. Call your travel agent or (855)223-0025 or (407) 566-8345. Any new bookings made on future trips through the end of June, 2020 will be subject to fully refundable deposits up until the final payment date.
Temporary Final Payment Extension
A Final Payment Extension will be automatically added to all reservations for trips departing July 15 through September 30. Final payments will be extended out an additional 30 days from their current due dates, making the final payment due 90 days before the start of the scheduled adventure.
The deposit payment will continue to follow current cancellation guidelines and is non-refundable 15-days after it is paid should the Guest choose to cancel the reservation.
