As promised last week, we have more photos from Brian Bennett this week.
Most of them are of the new décor on the castle. Once again, they
are spread throughout the Update. Enjoy!

and the newly cleared Central Plaza hub are visible from Main Street,

Night of Joy lineup announced, tix on sale now
The entertainment line-up for the 23rd annual Night of Joy (link)
has been announced, with MercyMe, Casting Crowns, and Steven Curtis Chapman
headlining the festivities. The event, which takes place September 9 and
10 this year, takes place in the Magic Kingdom after regular park operating
hours.
The entertainment on September 9 features Steven Curtis Chapman, MercyMe,
Casting Crowns, Audio Adrenaline, Mark Schultz, Nicole C. Mullen, Big
Daddy Weave, Matthew West, Vicky Beeching and a contest winner from the
Gospel Music Association’s Music in the Rockies event.
The roster for September 10 includes newsboys, tobyMac, Donnie McClurkin,
Cece Winans, Kutless, Tree 63, Superchic[k], Further Seems Forever, stellar
kart, Kierra “KiKi” Sheard and a contest winner from the Kellogg’s
Gospel Sing Off 2005.
Tickets for the event went on sale last Friday. Single-night tickets
are $37.95 plus tax (in advance) and $42.95 plus tax (at the gate, if
available). Two-night tickets are $61.95.

Lagoon site not themed as a meet-and-greet
The former 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea lagoon area across from The Many
Adventures of Winnie–the–Pooh attraction is not going to open
as a dedicated meet–and–greet (although there is the possibility
of character greetings there as well). The area will be a children’s play
area featuring slides, climbing structures and interactive pop-jet fountains.
The area will be called “Pooh’s Playful Spot,” and will open
around September.
The magic mirror-themed “stained–glass window” currently
only shows Sleeping Beauty Castle from Disneyland, but begins cycling
through the castle from all of the Magic Kingdom-style parks after the
“Happiest Celebration” promotion starts. Photo by Brian Bennett.
Roadway closures postponed
One day after we published information about work on entrance archways
causing roadway closures around the resort property, Walt Disney Imagineering
realized that spring break was causing high crowd levels, and extended
park hours and postponed the road work. The work is now tentatively scheduled
for next week after the traffic volume dies down again. Keep an eye out
for inbound roadway closings next week between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Hotel
Plaza Boulevard, World Drive, Osceola Parkway and Epcot Drive.
From below, the massive size of the magic mirror is more apparent. Photo

Contemporary to undergo construction; DVC coming?
The South Garden Wing of the Contemporary Resort is closed for refurbishment
May 30 through October 31. This first phase of a major renovation for
Disney’s oldest resort hotel is badly needed, with the resort really showing
its age. We hear that the new room decor will be done in earth tones with
white duvets. The furnishings will be more up-to-date as well, with glass
and steel desks and flat-screen or plasma televisions. Reportedly, a model
room has been completed and looks very nice.
The rumors that we hear is that the entire resort is repositioning to
target a specific clientele. Or, rather, two specific clienteles. Supposedly,
the buildings in the South Garden Wing will be gutted and rebuilt as Disney
Vacation Club villas. The remainder of the hotel would be modified to
target conventions, with families with children to be steered toward the
Wilderness Lodge. We are still trying to confirm these changes.
The White Rabbit, a tea pot & cup, the Mad Hatter’s hat, and the Cheshire
Cat from Alice in Wonderland populate the Westernmost turret of
the castle. Photo by Brian Bennett
Soarin’, Living with the Land both feature Fastpass when pavilion returns
While the news that the soon-to-open Soarin’ will be a Fastpass attraction
was expected, many were surprised that the Living With The Land boat ride
is apparently retaining its Fastpass status, as well. Once The Land pavilion
reopens, the official list of Epcot attractions with Fastpass will include
Honey, I Shrunk the Audience, Living with the Land, Maelstrom, Mission:
Space, Soarin’, and Test Track.
Simba, Puumbaa and Timon from The Lion King occupy the turret next
to the Alice characters. Photo by Brian Bennett
New organic/special foods store opening in Celebration
Visitors looking for organic and other special foods in the Walt Disney
World area now have a new place to shop. The Town Center Market and Bakery
is now available in Celebration. The store features a variety of organic
and ethnic foods, including organic produce, gourmet condiments and soups,
organic cereals, baked goods, freshly prepared sandwiches, sodas, and
ice cream. The brand new store is near the town square where Goodings
used to be, on Market Street in Celebration. Thanks to MousePlanet reader
Teri for this information.

Baby-swap procedure correction
After publishing what I had thought was a change to the baby swap procedures
last week, I got a number of e–mail stating that the “new”
procedure of re-entering through the Fastpass queue rather than the exit
walkway has been the case for some time. Apparently, my memories of going
in through the exit were further in the past than I thought. My apologies
for not realizing it.
Vero to get a bit noisy from refurbishment
We are hearing that guests with reservations at Disney’s Vero Beach Resort
are being informed about roof construction scheduled between April 4 and
September 9. The highly visible work is expected to cause a great deal
of noise.

Ears to the ground
…When the Playhouse Disney show returns from next week’s refurbishment,
it will also feature Fastpass machines instead of the current manually
distributed passes. That means that you won’t be able to get a Fastpass
for the show and immediately grab one for another attraction.
…The Irish Pub that is soon to open in the old Pleasure Island Jazz
club now has a name: Raglan Road.
Kaa and King Louie from The Jungle Book play atop the easternmost
turret as Hunchback‘s Hugo looks on. Photo by Brian Bennett.
…International guests can now join stateside visitors in getting
a video record of their self-made coasters. DisneyQuest has begun offering
PAL format videos of CyberSpace Mountain ride experiences.
Peter Pan and Wendy fly to the top of the tallest turret. Tinker Bell
was put into place over the weekend. Photo by Brian Bennett.
…Peak season crowd control measures are being used again last week
and this week. As the Magic Kingdom parking lot gets full, cars are being
diverted to Epcot’s lots and guests must travel to the Transportation
and Ticket Center via monorail. In addition, the exit path through the
backstage area behind Main Street, U.S.A. from Tomorrowland and Adventureland
may be utilized as needed during the SpectroMagic parade and Wishes
fireworks show to avoid the usual crowd gridlock.
Outside the Magic Kingdom, a more permanent-looking tent now protects
the ticket vending machines from the elements. Photo by Brian Bennett.
…Due to holiday crowds, shops in Pleasure Island are opening at
3 p.m. through April 2. Clubs are open at their own later scheduled times.
…The Easter Bunny is hanging around past the holiday and continue
to meet and greet in Town Square through April 1.

rumors, and comments. E–mail us here.
