Soarin’ over… where, exactly? Epcot Guest Relations cast members
have been told that a new “E-ticket attraction” will open in
2005. Disney will officially announce the new attraction later in the
fall, but widespread speculation is that this will be a copy of “Soarin’
Over California” ride from Disney’s California Adventure park. Construction
is slated to begin in August in the backstage area between the Imagination!
Pavilion and The Land. While the online Disney community is pretty certain
about the type of ride, nobody knows if Disney is going to produce a new
film for the Florida version, or simply recycle the California footage.
Cows and beagles and mice, oh my! Many tourists are familiar with
the famed Cow Parade, a public art exhibition that began in Chicago in
1999 and has become an international event. Corporations and individuals
sponsor life-size cow sculptures, which are then painted and decorated
by local artists and set on display around different host cities each
summer.
With the popularity of the Cow Parade, several other versions of the
event have cropped up, such as “Trail of the Painted Ponies,”
“Potato Heads on Parade,” and the upcoming “Linus Blankets
Saint Paul” exhibits.
Now the people who were responsible for scattering painted cows around
Illinois and Snoopy sculptures around Minnesota have turned their attention
to a mouse — Mickey Mouse, to be specific.
Starting this November, 76 six-foot polyurethane Mickey Mouse statues
will appear at Walt Disney World as part of the “75 Years with Mickey”
promotion. The sculptures will be decorated by celebrities such as Drew
Carey and John Travolta.
R.I.P. Betsy – Betsy, a 6-year-old giraffe who roamed through
Animal Kingdom’s Kilimanjaro Safari attraction, was struck and killed
by lightning last Monday. Disney officials said that the thunderstorm
came upon the park too quickly for animal handlers to move the animals
indoors. Although the Kilimanjaro Safari attraction is protected with
lightning rods, visitors to WDW last week said the storms were very intense,
striking both Splash Mountain and the Monorail line. Betsy was the first
animal to be killed by lightning at the park.
The Magic Kingdom prepares for PhilharMagic – Mission: Space
is not the only new attraction vying for the spotlight. The Magic Kingdom
is getting ready to unveil Mickey’s PhilharMagic this October, when the
3-D film makes its debut.
As described by Disney, PhilharMagic “follows the adventures of
Donald Duck as he pursues Mickey Mouse’s sorcerer hat through a musical
world of characters and scenes from several famous Disney animated films.”
The film will be shown on a 150-foot-wide seamless screen—the largest
built for an attraction by Walt Disney Imagineering—that will wrap
around the audience, and provide an immersive experience.

and you must show a valid ID each time. These tickets can be applied towards
the cost of any Annual Passport, as long as you upgrade by October 31,
2003. (Your annual pass expires one year from the date you first used
your Play 4 Days Pass).
The Play 4 Days pass can be purchased at any WDW park ticket window,
local AAA offices, Florida Disney Stores, by phone at (407) 939-4329 or
on the WDW Web site (link).
