Star Tours hype machine continues revving up
As the countdown to the opening of Star Tours: The Adventures Continue approaches its conclusion on May 20, Disney continues to move forward with revealing more and more details about the attraction. Last week marked the launch of the Star Tours Facebook fan page, which provided five images of various destinations for the attraction. In addition to the previously released images of Tatooine and Coruscant, also shown are images of an underwater city on Naboo, the Wookiee home planet of Kashyyyk, and the ice world of Hoth (under attack by Imperial AT-AT walkers).
Also announced on the Facebook page is the Star Tours 3-D Florida Sneak Peek Event, a four-city mall tour traveling to locations around Florida between now and the attraction’s opening. The first event took place at the Aventura Mall in Miami this past Saturday, and there’s coverage of the event at Star Tours 2 Live, a website run by our friends at TouringPlans.com and StudiosCentral.com. The mall tour continues on April 30 at Orange Park Mall in Jacksonville, May 7 at the Westfield Citrus Park Mall in Tampa, and May 14 at the Florida Mall in Orlando. All remaining events run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The mall event provides even more looks at the attraction’s details, and also displayed a QR code that leads to the new Star Tours Mobile website. The mobile website provides another look at the five planetary destinations plus the Death Star (to be encountered above the planet Geonosis), a promotional video for the tour, downloadable phone backgrounds, a look at the various characters that the attraction will encounter (Yoda, Darth Vader, C-3PO, Chewbacca, R2-D2, and Princess Leia), and a phone link to 407-939-7212 to let you immediately call and book a Walt Disney World vacation.

Morning-only merchandise discount for peak season
As expected, last week Walt Disney World rolled out a peak-season merchandise discount to go with the previously announced dining discount, both aimed at shifting crowds from peak times to less-busy times. As the dining discount aimed to move crowds to eat prior to 11:30 a.m. and between 3:00 to 4:30 p.m., the new merchandise discount is only good at select merchandise locations between store opening and noon. The discount coupons will be printed on dining receipts at select quick service dining locations throughout Walt Disney World and provide 10 percent off merchandise purchases at select stores.
At the Magic Kingdom park, the discount is only good at the Emporium. Epcot’s sole participating location is Mouse Gear. Both Mickey’s of Hollywood and Keystone Clothiers are participating at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Disney’s Animal Kingdom has Island Mercantile as its participating location, and World of Disney is the sole participant at Downtown Disney Marketplace.
The discount isn’t valid on purchases of a number of items, including alcohol, tobacco, admission media, cameras, DVDs and CDs, Disney dollars or gift cards. The coupon is also not valid with other discounts, such as cast member, AAA, passholder, and Disney Visa cardholder discounts, so you may be better off checking to see which gives you the better net price. The coupons are valid through May 2.
Purchase-with-purchase offers at all parks and Downtown Disney
Disney has announced a number of purchase-with-purchase deals at Walt Disney World Resort (and Disneyland Resort), while supplies last. At Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios (and Disney California Adventure), guests can choose to purchase a two-tone, yellow-and-orange canvas tote bag for $12.95 with any merchandise purchase of $25 or more. At the Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Animal Kingdom parks (and Disneyland Park), guests have the same option, but for a blue-and-green tote. At all parks, guests can also purchase a Deluxe Trading Pin Starter Set for $15.95 with any merchandise purchase of $40 or more.
A number of merchandise events are coming to Walt Disney World in the next couple of months.

For more information about the event, images of the piece and how to pre-order a sculpture, visit the event’s website.
Finally, in celebration of Lightning McQueen’s debut in the Lights, Motors, Action Extreme Stunt Show, a new Ink and Paint cel premiere will take place at the Animation Gallery in Disney’s Hollywood Studios on Saturday, June 18 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and 2-5 p.m. Disney Design Group artist Costa Alavezos and Ink & Paint artists James Bonserio, Erin Magill, Theodora M. Advance reservations now available for Castaway Cay cabanas
Adrienne Vincent-Phoenix posted to the MousePad Disney Cruise Line discussion forum last week that Castaway Cay cabanas now available for online booking:
Disney has finally added the option of booking a Castaway Cay beach cabana to the online reservation site. Effective immediately, passengers can reserve a cabana on the adult or family beach within the same booking window as for all other activities:
- Platinum Castaway Club members, as well as passengers staying in a concierge suite, can book 120 days before sailing.
- Gold Castaway Club members can book 105 days before sailing.
- Silver Castaway Club members can book 90 days before sailing.
- Everyone else can book 75 days before sailing.
I wrote about my experiences with the Castaway Cay cabanas earlier this year, and I’m really glad they’ve added an online booking option.

A Personal Appeal, Year Six
There is nothing more heartbreaking than a baby who is born too soon having medical complications that leave them with medical difficulties for life, or worse, that never let them leave the hospital alive. On May 15, I will once again be walking to raise money for the March of Dimes. The March of Dimes mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality.
Over the last five years, through the generosity of MousePlanet readers, friends, family, and co-workers, we have raised nearly $19,000. This year, let’s do something really special. My personal goal is to raise $5,000 this year, but you can help in ways other than donating to my walk. This year, you can walk with me. Even if you aren’t in the Albany, NY area, you can virtually walk with me by joining Team MousePlanet and walking at the March for Babies site near you. If you join me in walking, money that you raise will help babies in your area to get a fighting chance to survive!
For more information about why I’m walking, or to donate to my walk, please go to my fundraising page. To sign up to join Team MousePlanet, please go to the team page. Let’s show those struggling babies how much MousePlanet readers care!
